So I figure I cant seem to get my storys to get very far. The last time before I tossed it I got to page 50. Mabye I need to go short story?
The Problem is... I dont know how to keep things short. Yea, you think if I cant make it long, then how cant I keep it short? I dont know Either.
So I was wondering if at all possible if anyone had any ideas or tips on how I could go about making a short story.

Like I said on the intro thread, I find writing short stories to be much harder for some reason.

I'll try giving a few tips on what I typically do:

idea First, pick a topic. Think through the order of events -> exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, conclusion. Fill in each step so you have a good plot to follow.

idea Write a draft straight through. If you notice you're dragging things out, putting too much detail or unnecessary fact, edit them out.

idea Edit, and maybe get peer citique. When youre happy with it, you're done.

Totally different from how I write a long story (I hardly do any planning with that lol I get a plot idea and basically wing it, but it seems to work for me), but that's how I write my short stories. Maybe if you try setting some limits for yourself you won't get carried away by the length *shrug*

Sounds good.
Heh.. I guess the only problem is the same problem i have with writing long stories... Creating a plot.
I can create great settings and worlds... but no plot.

Maybe just brainstorming, clearing your head, etc. will help. Inspiration should come sooner or later, I think.

I posted what I did to help me choose a plot in the other thread (I'll probably just bring those posts over here later).

Actually, why is there any need to detail a plot? Just think up your characters and setting and throw in a bit of conflict. Try to be realistic and let it go where it will. If you get stuck, introduce a new character and figure out where they'll fit in. *shrug* Not much help, I know, and there'll probably be a lot drafts if you have to go back and change things, but whatever. Good luck.
