A story I wrote today about something that happened at school. Title: Monster Author: Silverfang Rating: PG Monster Dear Diary... But that's not really the right way to start this, is it? I wanted to tell you that I created a monster today. I wonder why now, but I did, no matter how inadvertently. Isn't it sad, that, while we wonder why we are the way we are, and who made us this way, we're busy making people just like us? Take today, for example. I felt bad that he cried. My friends told me not to, and they talk about him like he's nothing; like he's as unwanted as we were in this world. But I felt bad, because I'm a nothing too. Is that weird? That a monster like me could have a heart? It's funny how we use the term "monster" nowadays, isn't it? Monsters used to be demons and ogres, but now it's a name for the misunderstood little freaks like me who don't fit in unless we force ourselves into the puzzle of the world. So...I felt bad. I'm tempted to apologize, even though I didn't do anything, but he's not mad at me. But that's just it, isn't it? I didn't do anything. I'm no pacifist, but I don't like seeing other people in pain, and I didn't do anything. It'll be funny, because one day, when I have my own kids and they come home crying because someone at school hurt them, I may remember this. I may know what they're about to become. And...I may know just how very, very sad it is. They say that time heals all wounds. Us monsters know that that isn't true. And again, it's funny; The advice we give out the most that seems to mean a lot is a lie. It's all a damned lie. Nothing heals. Nothing is ever the same after we create our monsters. Is that fair? I mean, inadvertently, we've changed him forever. Is that sick? I think so, but I don't think my friends are sick. I don't know what to think. So...Dear Diary.... I created a monster today. And they say: Sticks and stones may break my bones But words will never harm me But they'll chew you up and spit you out We'll cry until we can't see And broken world we do now fall And demons now will save us all And here we stand in darkest night Ready to finish that one first fight. For every monster, there is someone who made them that way.
