What should my thread include when I make my first post?

Your first post should include basic info about what you like to roleplay. Listing topics will make it easier for someone to find a common roleplay with you. The more information you can post, the better. You can always use this format if you don't know what you should post:

What genre of roleplay are you looking for? (Anime, videogames, books)

Any particular title for one of the genres. (Inuyasha, Final Fantasy X, Harry Potter)
Are you looking for a male or female?

How would you like to roleplay this? (PMs, AIM, MSNM, Barton Town, etc...)

If your roleplay is not going to be done on Gaia, how can you be reached?

Can I brainstorm with other Gaians to make a roleplay here?

Yes! That's part of what this forum was made for! However, it is encouraged to have atleast a basic plot to expand on. That way, you can post what situation would be great for a roleplay, and another user can add to it. Posting "inuyasha roleplay" really doesn't count as brainstorming, as it's just two words. Try to elaborate on what you think would be a good roleplay. That way other users have a good idea of what you are looking for. Having detail will also spark more interest in your RP.

When I find a partner, should I change the title to something?

When you finish with a thread, changing your title to "RESOLVED" would help people know that you have finished with the thread. This way, less finished threads are bumped up by people thinking that you are still looking.

Can I make help threads?

Making threads to instruct others in roleplaying is an awesome idea! However, when making a thread like this, you must show the information you are going to teach people who ask. Please do not make threads saying "I'll help you rp, pm me", or something to that effect.

Can I advertise for existing roleplays and GGN roleplays?

GGN or other guild forum roleplays being advertised in Barton OOC is not allowed. However, recruiting for a GGN Guild now belongs in the Registered Guilds forum.

However, advertising existing roleplays in Barton Town is acceptable. The only thing we ask is that if you have an existing roleplay, you try to explain what the roleplay is about. Try not to post a link and say join. Think of it as selling your thread to people. You should make them want to join, not just throw a link at them!

Can I bump my thread?

We don't think this subforum will move as fast as others, so we are asking you to only bump if your thread goes off the first page. That way, threads are not filled with bumps.

What does OOC mean?

OOC is short for "out of character". We felt it was a perfect name for this subforum, because this is out of character for Barton Town. This is the place for you to put topics relating to a roleplay, without actually roleplaying. See next post for more information.

If you would like to see something added, you can PM me.

OOC not for?

Recruiting for sexual or adult roleplays.

Recruiting for your private forums.

Complaining about RPs in Barton Town -- help people make better ones, don't complain!

Holding discussions about the state or quality of roleplaying on Gaia.

Advertising a guild in either the Guild Forums or the GGN.

Spam or threads that do not serve any purpose in Barton OOC.

What next?

Now that you know what is and is not allowed, we should elaborate.

You may not make a recruitment thread for roleplays that would not be appropriate for Gaia. This includes sexual roleplays, fetish roleplays, sexual slave roleplays or other adult situations. Soliciting for these types of roleplays on Gaia is a bannable offence.

You may not make a recruitment thread for sites other than Gaia and messengers. Listing another forum is not allowed in Barton OOC. You may only recruit for Barton Town, Private Messages, and messengers.

You may not make recruitment threads for guilds. This is to be done in the chatterbox.

Please do not make "come and ask questions" threads. Your topic must contain helpful information that is immediately available upon viewing the thread.

Topics in this forum must have content. If you are looking for an rp partner, don't just put: "looking for rp on AIM (insert name here)", or something to that effect. Those are not allowed, and will be sent to the Chatterbox.

If you are making a school, explain what you're are attempting to do. Lay out lesson plans, explain why you are making this school.

An OOC thread is going to be mostly chatting, but you must state and link which roleplay this OOC thread corresponds with.
