I was just thinking about the military and I was wondering...is it a sin? Because you are forced to kill people...but yet you can save lives in the process....and you are giving up your life for others---a Christ-like act---...

I'm not sure, because I haven't done any Biblical studies on this, besides it's not like I'm going to join the military anyways.

"there is no greater love then thi for a man to lay down his life for his friends." so the last question the ansure is yes...if you read in the bible God did infact use war...it is different then cold blooded murder...

i agree and i know that theres a story in the bible that God helped in a war. the leader had more than the enemy and God lowered the number to i think 300 or something like that and they won so i dont think God is against war.

Thou shalt not kill. Plain and simple. God says not to kill, so don't kill. At all. Got it memorized? (a little Axel tribute at the end there)

Galadedrid Damodred Thou shalt not kill. Plain and simple. God says not to kill, so don't kill. At all. Got it memorized? (a little Axel tribute at the end there) actually from what I heard it was thou shalt not murder however with new translations.... rolleyes came thou shalt not kill, and obviously God paticipated in many wars in the OT, I'm not saying it's alright to kill someone, but rather if your freedom or life or whatever within the necessisity of fighthing is in danger, then you better fight....but especially if it is for someone else but yourself who is weaker...

personaly i think shooting a kid in the back wiht a weapon designed soecificaly to kill Human beings is a sin. on the other hand by hte logic of the first post i could go put a bullet in Bush's head and save a shitload of lives by taking overAmerica and ending the war in Iraq would that be a sin? and by the logic of the seccond post suicide bombers are great people (the do lay down their lives for their firnds and their beleifs)
on the other hand a quote always struk me "I am the unknown soldier, and maybe I died in vain, but were I alive and my country called I'd do it all over again."

Maybe I'm slightly biased because my dad's in the military, but I say no. The Bible says 'Thou shalt not kill', ((though I believe it's supposed to be 'murder')) yet some of the most spiritual men in the Bible went to war; with God's help. The Bible also says to obey the authority over us. That's what the men and women in the military are doing; obeying commands. And while they may kill, they also save lives in the process.

If war is a sin, then explain to me the whole David and Golith story and spiritual warfare It's going on around us everyday. we just don't physically see it. War is not a sin. War was used in the Bibliical times, on numerous occasions.

No, being in the military is not a sin, as it has been said many many times, God helped his chosen people in their wars. I will not stoop so low to say that God supports war. Spiritual warfare yes, but not earthly warfare. He merely helps his people that call on him. Thou shalt not MURDER Murder, by definition is killing someone who is not trying to harm you or your family. Murder is killing a relatively innocent person (as in they aren't attacking you or have not commited this sin themselves [yes, I do believe in capital punishment]). So to the person who said they could go knock off bush, unfortunately that would be a sin...

(a little Axel tribute at the end there) thats a mistranslation, or either a transliteration which is wrong. its thou shall not murder. murder is killing yes, but murder is with a malicious intent.
