im school everyone usually likes partner projects. a good time to hang out with friends and all. however when you're the only one in class without a friend and everyone calls you game freak, you dread it. everyone gets paired off and one person dreads his partner. Yami gets partnered with yugi. the only one in the class no one wants to be with.

Yami sat in class as he read the words the teacher placed up for todays agenda
"today SWBAT:
start their partner projects"
"this is great. wonder who she'll pair me off with."
soon the class settled as the teacher walked into class. the first thing she did was name off the partners. everyone became anxious as the list went on and they didn't hear their names being called. no one wanted to be with Yugi. he was the class loser. a game freak. no one would be caught dead with him. Yami was on the other side of the social latter with joey kaiba, bakura, and the rest of them all.
"joey-kaiba, ryou-bakura, malik-marik, mai-tea"
everyone glanced at yami when he was the last one in the group without a partner.
"yami-yugi"
a loud thud could be heard from Yamis desk as his head hit his desk. the most popular boy in school paired with the least popular

Yugi saw the agenda for the day. He had been dreading the day when this would happen. He hated partner projects, hated them with a passion. He sunk into his seat and tried to ignore everyone and everything. Maybe the teacher would forget he was there and not partner him with anyone. Or maybe if he did get partnered with someone he could work his way out of it somehow.
As the teacher read the names he lowered himself more and more into his chair. He gave sideways glances at everyone else when he heard who they were getting paired off with and he felt even worse then before. He dreaded hearing his name -though a part of him hoped he was going to end up alone.
Sadly, that wasn't the case and he blinked when he heard who he was partnered with. The most popular kid. He whimpered a little and sunk lower into his chair and gave a hidden sideways glance at Yami. It didn't help that the other boy had just totally head-desked at the announcement.

at once yamis hand shot up in the air
"teacher, can't i work alone or something!"
the teacher shot yami a look that made him sink in his chair.
"don't even start on me yami. you need this grade, which is why i partnered you with yugi."
she said before yami sighed and rubbed his forehead.
"alright, class, get together with your partners."
everyone in the class moved, but yami remained. actting as if he didn't hear her.

Yugi slumped into his desk. He knew he could've get out of this so he didn't even try. He looked over at Yami and frowned when he saw him object to being partnered with him. Yugi's self esteem was plummeting even more, not that he had much to begin with but still.
Yugi remained seated as well when Yami didn't move. He didn't have the strenghth to do anything but sit there.

"Yami! Yugi! move!"
yelled the teacher. yami twitched as he reluctantly got up and moved over to the seat by yugi.
"hey..."
he grumbled as he pulled out his book and started his work without another word to yugi

Yugi lowered himself deeper into his seat when he was yelled at. He didn't like the attention at all. Then when Yami moved he blushed a little, admiring him...after all who didn't admire the boy?
Umm...
Yugi stammer when Yami spoke then he sunk himself into his seat once more looking down at his book but not really understanding the project at all. But, then again he wasn't making much of an effort to either.

yami continued looking into his project information, not even paying attention to yugi. every now and then he would talk with some friends, but other then that, nothing.
"this is a waste of my time..."
he grumbled

Yugi watched him talking with other and then buried his face deeper into his project information.
We're so gonna fail.
He whispered.

yami heard him mutter something and looked at him.
"you know what. lets try and get this done in one shot."
he wrote his address on a piece of paper and handed it to yugi.
"come over tonight and we can just get this done in one or two days."
he said before he turned and talked with his friends again

Huh?
Yugi blinked, wide innocent eyes up at him. He then looked down at the piece of paper he was handed and blinked even more. He had the home address of the schools most popular guy. He blushed as he looked away and sunk even more into his seat.
He wanted to ask him if he thought that was a good idea but he didn't he just went back to sitting low in his seat. Waiting for the end of the school day. He watched Yami talking with the other's and he longed to be able to do that. To have friends.

the school bell rang and yami left with his friends. he didn't go straight home, but stopped by Tea's work and grabbed a hamburger. he walked home as he ate it. once me made it to his door, he stuffed the burger in his mouth so he could unlock his door.

Yugi's head jerked when the bell rang and he smiled, happy to be going home. At least at home he was loved. He had Grandpa...and his games to be with and he was ok with that. He watched Yami leave and then he remembered having to go there and his heart sank a little.
He followed him a little until their paths diverged, Yami going to his own house and Yugi heading for Kame game shop. He quickly let himself in an gave a hello to grandpa before he ran up to his room and locked himself in there. He leaned against the door and then pushed himself off it.
He walked to his closet and looked around for something else to wear. He wanted to make a good impression on anyone else who might live with Yami after all. He didn't want to look like a total dork. Of course he didn't really have much in his closet. He sighed and then decided on a red shirt with studs on it and some black leather pants. He grabbed his school jacket, his bag and the address and then headed out.
