Description

The dining room is situated on the main floor and is not far from the throne room. Unlike most rooms made of white marble, the dining room has received another kind of touch. There are large windows with dark red curtains that are closed when it is a rainy day. On the walls are torches and candles. The floor of hard stone is mostly covered by large carpets. In the exact centre of the room there is a broad oval table in dark wood, the heads of the table are meant for the Empress and Emperor. The sons sit near their father and the daughters near the mother. Except when there are guests of honour present, then they sit near the Empress. Unless they are personal friends of the Emperor of course.

Kithala was the first one to arrive in the dining room. As usual, the servants had decorated the place nicely with flowers and folded napkins. No doubt that the food itself would be presented at its best, namely like a piece of art. She was greated by servants and maids as she passed them by. This evening she wore a long red dress in velvet, a turtleneck and the normal area of cleavage covered by red chiffon attached to the dress. It was unusual but specious. Around her lovely neck she wore a golden necklace and her ears were pierced with pearl earrings. Some of the workers seemed surprised to see her here today. This wasn't unusual, Kithala had the habit of coming and going whenever she pleased. Most of the time people did not even realize she was gone for a few days. She wasn't as important as her sister, but the Amirians loved her nonetheless.
The table was empty, a long oval table with comfortable armchairs made by true masters in their line of business.
The servants passed her by, they had haste which meant the banquet would soon be 'officially' opened.

Kenshin arrived shortly after his aunt. He hadn't bothered changing his clothes, he just removed the armor and wore soft slippers instead of his boots. Tadou was by his side, as always. The dog woofed happily when he recognised Kithala.

Kithala looked over her shoulder as she heard the barking of the dog. "Tadou, Kenshin. More early birds I see. Where are the others staying." She walked over and then sat down on her heels to pet the dog. "I hope they won't be any later because I'm rather hungry. Been outside all day long."

"Wandering through the forest again, auntie dear?"

"Yes indeed, the forest has so much more serenity. The castle here is always so busy, the servants running through the halls and my sister and her husband giving audiences all the time and receiving guests. And all that courtesy and rules you are bound to. I get so tired of it sometimes. Don't you?"

"Yes, but I usually go running in the gardens, with Tadou. Or I head to the pub."

Her hand went over Tadou's head again as he licked her fingers. "And what did you do today then? Did anything exciting happen in the life of the young prince of Nitar? Or have you just been reading old law books as you should?" She asked teasingly.

"I met a girl," he said sheepishly.

"Ah now this is getting interesting. Tell me more, before the rest of the crowd comes in and ruins your sneaky little secret." she said with a smirk and winked at him. "I won't tell anyone. And I can help. I am a woman afterall. Unmarried, unloved but not heartless."

"You aren't unloved, aunt Kithala. Your family loves you, and your people."

"Any woman needs a man, no matter how strong you seem to be on your own. And don't worry, young one. I know my family loves me and it makes me feel warm inside. But my bed is cold, if you know what I mean." She said softly. "But let's not digress from the original topic. Tell me about her. Who is she? Where does she come from? That kind of things."

"Her name is Vasbeth.."

"It's a nice, slightly unusual name but if that is all you know about her, I don't hear wedding bells yet I'm afraid. You must know more, or have you just passed her by and then asked someone for her name? Like a coward?"
