Biff is asleep on the couch when the phone rings; he answers it with dark circles under his eyes.

Biff: Hello?
Max ( On phone): Biffy!
Biff: Hey Max…
Max ( On phone): Biffy, you sound tired…
Biff: I am tired…
Max ( On phone): Oh…
Biff: So… you back from your trip?
Max ( On phone): Mhmm!
Biff: Why not you come over, you and your brother?
Max ( On phone): Really!
Biff: Yeah…

Scarlet starts to cry in the other room; Biff’s ears twitch.

Biff: I have to go Max, see you later.
Max ( On phone): Okay! I love you, buh-bye.

Biff clicks off the phone and walks into the bedroom. He pinches his nose.

Biff: Dirty diaper…

Later, Max dashes up the stairs to the apartment with Ivan walking behind him.

Ivan: Be careful Max, you might –

Max trips over his shoe lace, smacking his face against the concrete step.

Ivan: Trip…

Max starts to cry, Ivan rushes up to Max and wipes the blood off Max’s face.

Ivan: That’s a nasty bump…
Max: -Sniff- That really hurt…

Biff walks out of the apartment and sees Ivan and Max.

Biff: Hey…
Max: Biffy!

Max runs up the stairs to Biff, he trips over his shoe lace again and Biff rushes to catch him. Max hugs Biff tightly as Biff sees Ivan with a sweat drop.

Biff: Max you got to be more careful.
Max: I sorry, I missed you too much.
Biff: I missed you too, come on in.

Inside, Max snuggles up to Biff on the couch with his tail wagging. Ivan sits in the chair across from the couch looking around.

Ivan: Nice place… what’s your job?
Max: Hm?
Biff: Florist…
Ivan: Huh?
Biff: Part-time chef… and umm, photographer.
Ivan: Three jobs?
Biff: Yeah… not very demanding…

Max giggles, Scarlet starts crying from the other room when everyone’s ears twitch.

Max: What was that?
Biff: Eh, heh-heh…

A few minutes later Biff is sitting on the couch holding Scarlet with one arm and feeding her a bottle with the other. Max grins.

Max: So this is Scarlet?
Biff: Mhmm.
Ivan: So if Scarlet is here, where’s Chris? Didn’t want to see me?
Biff: No… do you know what postpartum depression is?
Max: You get depressed after having a baby, right?
Biff: Yeah… she wasn’t able to take care of Scarlet…
Ivan: So then where is she?
Biff: In a place many people would dream going too…

Minna brings a tray into the guest bedroom at her home; Chris sits there staring off into space.

Minna: Breakfast.
Chris: Not hungry…
Minna: You have to eat Chris…
Chris: Who needs food…

Max holds Scarlet, grinning.

Max: I’m so happy.
Ivan: When will Chris be back?
Biff: I don’t know… looks like it’s up to us caring for Miss Scarlet.
Max: Hooray!
Ivan: But I don’t know a thing about babies…

Ivan sits on the chair reading a book; Max decorates a cake in the kitchen while Biff sleeps on the couch. Scarlet starts to cry, Biff grabs his ears.

Biff: Someone going to get that?
Max: Hands are full!
Ivan: I’m still reading…
Biff: Babies cry over food, dirty diapers, and attention – what else do you need to know?
Ivan: You’re up now though and are more experience.

Biff grumbles and walks over to Scarlet. He picks her up and cradles her. Max pokes his head out from the kitchen and smiles.

Max: To sweet.

Max holds Scarlet sitting down on the couch while Biff and Ivan bite into their cake.

Max: Good?
Biff: Delicious.
Ivan: Nice job Max.
Max: Hehe, I’m so happy.

Chris cries while sitting in bed.

Chris: I’m so miserable…

Biff keeps waking up from Scarlet’s crying, he walks out of bed yawning…

Biff: I’m so miserable...

The next day Biff and Chris both wake up with dark circles under their eyes. Their heads fall back on the pillow. Scarlet cries in her crib.

Biff: I wish I can get some sleep…

Saikoro appears sitting at the edge of Biff’s bed and tosses him a bottle of sleeping pills.

Biff: Where the hell have you been?
Saikoro: Here and there…
Biff: So you come to give me sleep?
Saikoro: I those pills work, I’ll take care of Miss Scarlet.
Biff: Have fun…

Biff curls back up and bed with the covers over his head. When Biff wakes up he yawns with a grin on his face.

Biff: Sleep!

Biff walks out of his bedroom scratching his hair; Saikoro is reading a book while Scarlet is asleep on her baby blanket on the couch.

Biff: Thanks…
Saikoro: You and your baby are wanted at the bar…
Biff: Eh… I hope know one asks why she’s been wearing the same hat for how ever long…
Saikoro: Would you like a new one?
Biff: Yeah… in lavender… with a yellow fox on it.
Saikoro: Neglecting the bunnies?
Biff: She’ll have enough of the bunnies when she finds out she’s a rabbit herself…

Biff and Saikoro leave a store with Scarlet in her new lavender cap.

Biff: I feel discriminated against…
Saikoro: I guess bunnies are more popular than foxes.
Biff: Stupid rabbits…

Arriving at the bar, Alice giggles looking at Scarlet.

Alice: She’s so adorable! I love her little cap. How have you been Biff?
Biff: Other than devoting my entire life to my friend’s baby? Terrific.
Alice: Don’t worry, after all those sleepless nights you’re going to love the supported sitter stage. She’ll smile and laugh and playing on the floor is great.
Biff: Heh-heh, maybe Ivan should have talked to you about babies instead of reading some book.

Ivan tosses the book at Biff’s head.

Ivan: Then I will. Have you heard from Chris?
Biff: I had to talk to Minna, Chris was nonstop crying.
Alice: It’s so sad…
Biff: She hasn’t even asked about Scarlet… I sent some pictures and Minna said all she did was shrug her shoulders.
Ivan: How long does postpartum depression last?
Biff: I’m not really sure but their really trying…
Ivan: Chris…

Alex’s little girl named Suki pokes her head into the guest room, Chris lies in the bed.

Chris: Whose there?
Suki: Umm, it’s me… Suki Noel.
Chris: Alex’s daughter?
Suki: Mhmm, everyone told me not to bother you but I was worried.

Suki tiptoes over to the bed and glimpses at Chris.

Suki: Are you sad?
Chris: I’ve been sad for a long time…
Suki: How come?

Suki hops up on the bed.

Suki: I get sad when I’m left out or Seth picks on me. It’s hard being the youngest of the house…
Chris: I bet…

Chi walks into the bedroom, she sees Suki sitting on the bed.

Chi: Suki, what are you doing in here?
Suki: Talking with umm –
Chris: Chris.
Chi: Suki, you’re not supposed to be in here.
Suki: But Mama…
Chris: Oh, so you’re Alex’s wife.
Chi: Why yes I am. And this is my baby girl Suki.
Chris: She’s cute…

The sky is dark outside, jazz music plays in the background of Biff’s apartment while Biff cradles Scarlet in his arms.

Biff: I got to say, I love you with all my heart Scarlet.

He time past with Biff raising Scarlet. Scarlet would suck on her fingers as she sat in car seat in the back of Biff’s car while Biff drove talking on the cell phone. Biff would make silly faces and Scarlet would coo and stick out her tongue. While Ivan held her at the bar she grabbed onto his ear. Biff, Max, and Alice started to laugh. Bathing Scarlet in the kitchen sink one night, Biff shampoos Scarlet’s soft red hair and white rabbit ears.

Biff: I can’t tell who you’re going to be like; Chris or Ivan. Heh-heh, your head is getting bigger. I have to get you a new hat.

The phone rings; Biff grabs the towel off the table and picks up Scarlet. He wraps her up in the towel and answers the phone.

Biff: Hello? Oh, hey Minna. Scarlet? She’s doing just fine, I was giving her a bath. No, no problem at all.

Biff walks back into his bedroom and lies Scarlet down on the bed.

Biff: That’s good, I’m sure Scarlet misses her mom… Yeah, I know she’s never met Chris but I’ve been showing pictures and talking about her all the time. Sure she’s only a baby but heck, she’s a great listener and adores the attention. So that’s when Chris will be coming back? Yeah, okay… Pot roast burning? Your oven is on fire! Okay, bye!

Biff turns off the phone and chuckles.

Biff: Crazy girl. Now let’s get you dressed and ready for bed Scarlet.

Chris is reading a magazine in bed when Lucky walks in carrying Suki on his back.

Suki: Thank-you Lucky.
Lucky: You’re welcome Suki, hey Chris.
Chris: Lucky. Suki.
Suki: How are you Miss Chris?
Chris: Good, and you two?
Lucky: Tired and going to bed, night you two.

Lucky leaves the room and Suki hops up on the bed.

Suki: You’ve been here quite a few months Miss Chris, have you missed your family?
Chris: I don’t really have family…
Suki: But Scarlet is your daughter…
Chris: And Ivan’s too…
Suki: Isn’t he, and Biff, and Max you’re really close friends?
Chris: Mhmm.
Suki: Well that’s how it is with my mommy and daddy and Lucky’s mommy and daddy and Redgie’s mommy and daddy! They’re all really close friends but we just say we’re family.
Chris: Indeed but you all live under the same roof.
Suki: But living together doesn’t make you a family, it’s the love that counts.
Chris: I’m afraid I forgot how to love...
Suki: All you need to do is be grateful and caring! Just show it!
Chris: I would but I’m just – not quite ready. I’m still a bit lost with a few things and just feel so hopeless…
Suki: Maybe you need a hug.

Suki hugs Chris; Chris smiles with a few tears running down her face.

Chris: Thank-you…
