Alright. I'm from British Columbia.
And, yes, I've heard enough about the winter olympics to have me almost reconsider going to every hockey game available when 2010 rolls around.
Frankly, I'm sick of the whining.
They isn't any going back now. We bid, were chosen. Nothings going to change that now. We just have to make the best of it.
And a million and a half people complaining about trees or money or just blowing steam about the olympics isn't going to change it.
We can't cancel them. We can't exactly shaft them to some other country, they wouldn't have the time to build everything.
We're stuck with it. Whether we like it or not. And they only thing this excessive whining is going to do is drive me mad.
Now Dicuss: *Olympics in general *BC olympics - how do you feel *Whining - What do people whine about that drives YOU nuts *Whether we should make all our athletes complete in massive inflatable beaver costumes.

I'm in BC and I'm frankly not a fan of the Olympics coming. I'm sure it's good for our tourist season, but man oh man, it shall be busy. I just hope that it won't be hard to get around even more so than it's like now during rush hours lol.
Is anyone going to Whistler to check out the events there?
And, I'm all for seeing people dressed up in inflatable beaver costumed! It'll definately make it something they'll never forget. lol

I'm from Ontario, so obviously I won't have the same feelings as people in BC, but I think the Olympics in BC is going to be a good thing, in the long run anyway. Of course it's going to be a real pain until everything is settled, and yes, rush hour will probably be a big pain in the a**, but the amount of revenue that the province is going to generate should make things easier for everyone there afterwards. You never know, they could lower taxes or give more money to programs that need help. It's like they say; no pain, no gain.

Won't affect PG much. So what do I care? No one wants to come here anyway. Its BC's shithole. But I don't want to leave because its my shithole xd
I'm actually gonna try and sneak into the Olympic Hockey village, and get a few autos from our team xd
Or not. emo

Construction for it is coming a bit slow, so I'm hoping we can make it. I kind of wish we could stick with buses instead of sky trains as our options for transporation. The B-lines are long buses, and take up room on the roads. I liked the roads they had for the buses in Richmond.

Not really excited but I definately want to watch the hockey tournament when 2010 rolls around.
Don't they use the Beaver icon to represent when you enter in Surrey?

How embarrasing it would be if we were just another Italian games. God knows how much we all made fun of those. I really hope our opening ceremonies are cool too. Stick to inflatable beavers please...

Someone was telling me about how places bid for the Olympics and then forget that there's only say 500 people to build everything when they need 5000 and they end up going broked.

I dunno about you guys, but I'm really excited about it!
...Maybe that's because while I live in BC, I'm really from Ontario? wink
The one problem I keep hearing about since I moved here is that there just isn't enough money to build everything they want to. BC is asking the Canadian government to pitch in more because they're going waaaay over budget - but they keep saying no. I mean, where do they expect the money to come from, anyways? They had better not give us a tax hike for it (I doubt they would, though)!
