Description and History
Saoyienti is one of the most well-known cities in Chaelum. It is the capital of Nitar and home to any Amirian. The name comes from 'sao yienti' which means our lady, referring to the Empress. Before the era of Empress K'tianna, the capital of Nitar was also known as Nitar and many people still use that name up till today as well.
The Imperial palace takes in a central position in the city and almost every main road leads to it. In front of the palace there is a large square for when the imperial family makes a public announcement. Around the square, known as Ladysquare, are many small taverns and hotels. Occasionally there are concerts or plays and people can watch them from their hotel balconies. When you go a bit further you find a concentration of shops of all kinds and another large square, Tradesquare, where the market is held daily. Once a year there is a large market and the entire town is decorated and full of small shops and merchant stands. Nobles and people from all over Nitar and sometimes Chaelum gather on Tradesquare for festivities. Also Ladysquare is popular then with its theatre plays.
The rest of the town is divided in several districts, each with their centre and the basic shops such as a bakery, butcher's, blacksmith and tavern. Most of the houses are constructed with stone and wood.
Outside of town, meaning on the other side of the high white city walls, there are smaller houses in wood and are more widely spread. It is a place for farmers who need the space for their lands.
The gates of the city close at nine but there is always a gatekeeper in case of emergency and so on. The gates open again at seven in the morning.
