i've recently become interested in alternatives to tobacco and marijuana, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good smokable herb mixture that wouldn't be too hard to make.

I always wondered if catnip/cat mint (neopeta cataria, heehee I even remember the scientific name) or any minty herb was smokeable. I do not smoke but if I did, it would be catnip. I must have been a cat in my previous life because I think it smells good, lol. I know what ever is in catnip is an appetite stimulant in cats but I don't know about humans. I know you can use it as a tea, which I can only assume it might also be "safe" enough to smoke.
Anyway, the herb is so easy to grow. The plants grow big and bushy. They yield tons of seeds which are the most potent part of the plant. The flowers are the next potent and then the leaves and stalks.
Hmm, Catnip incense!? I think that would be the coolest thing in the world and I am sure my cats would agree! I know there are recipes for incense somewhere...
Good luck with your smoking adventures. I may have myself an incense adventure if I can find a recipe.

Don't expect to get any sort of high off it, though. Or you could always try opium.

surely not wise to suggest trying opium to anyone? seeing as it's both highly illegal and addictive confused

I just think that some of these herbs would taste really good as a smoke. personally, I love tobacco but unfortunately it's terrible for your health.

Well, smoking is- but I have to admit, smoking something you make at home from a non-addictive substance must be better than tobacco or pot.
What about clove cigarettes? They're sold as a tobacco alternative.

I know opium is very addictive. I haven't used it myself, and I don't encourage it. But yeah, smoking anything is bad for you and your lungs. Even if it's not addictive.

They're sold as a tobacco alternative. well yes, except for the fact that they're also really bad for you because of all the fiber glass in them, it's terrible for your lungs.

Even if it's not addictive. yes, I realize that, but like you do with cigars or pipe tobacco, and just draw the smoke into your mouth it's not bad for your lungs, and with a none addictive substance, the only problem you might have is the tar build up in your mouth, but i'm not planning on smoking that much anyway so this is probably the best decision.

Well, first of all... if you're not 18 (or the legal smoking age in your country), then don't smoke anything at all. >< Personally, I'd say "well... don't." Because you're right- smoking anything is bad for your lungs. But even smoking without inhaling is very bad, considering that your mouth absorbs so many things so easily.
If you -insist- on smoking, and there's nothing anyone can do to turn you away from that, AND you're of legal age! the only suggestion I have is finding an all natural tobacco. Literally, completely all natural. It'll be loose-leaf, and there's less nicotine in them than in store-brand cigarettes. The best way (HA! The lesser of two evils) is to have all natural tobacco cigarettes with filters.
But there just is no good way to smoke anything. A truly healthy lifestyle doesn't include inhaling burned anything on a regular basis. ><

I guess I'll start when i'm in my mmid 20's or something, then really pick it up when I turn 40.

Sometimes he'll up the effect by adding a little weed to the mix, but al in all, he loves the taste of pipe and pipe tobacco far better than any sort of cigarette or cigar.
