Yea, well, I think this goes in here, I'm not sure. But, I continue anyway.
I'm writing this story. My hard drive crashed, so everything else was just gone. Wiped. It's terrible. So, I had to start completely over. What sucks is that I had a bunch of stuff on my hard drive, including some really old stories that I liked reading now and then.
So I restarted a story that I really liked. I got it from this roleplay, who had something to do with Princess' and the like. I tweaked it, of course, because the whole Princess running away thing; so damn cliche.
So, there's this ship called 'The Escaped'. (That was the name of the roleplay.) What I've written so far is just about its history in captains, mainly, and it starts from there in the second chapter. Yes, the second chapter. The thing I'm having a problem with, however, is whether it should be a prelude, prologue, or first chapter.
I think it's too short to be a prelude. For those of you who don't know what a prelude is, which should be no one, it is a kind of story that starts the beginning of a series, I think. I'm not sure of the complete definition, but I can give an example.
The Hobbit - Prelude to the Lord of the Rings.
XD Over used example, but anyway.
It's too short to be a prelude, I'm planning for it to be the size of a short chapter. But I think it's too long to be a prologue. I mean, prologues I used to write were just info dumps; and that's not a good thing. And this, I don't really think is an info dump, it's just a brief history of the ship. But it's important, and I don't want to put it in the back of the story as a mini story, history type thing, but I think it's too long to be a prologue too. Sure, David Eddings could get away with it (I love his books! <33), but I don't think I could. So I'm just rather curious what everyone else thinks.
It's a basic idea, so help could be on the story line and such too, I might post that later if anyone asks.
