Well, I didn't see one, so here y'all go. A thread totally devoted to books. Any subject, any author. Recommendations and links completely appreciated.

Well...I like Dan Brown, Tolkien, but my fav author would have to be R.A.Salvatore...creator of my favorite character ever, Drizzt Do'Urden. My favorite book though would have to be either The Da Vinci Code or Angels & Demons

I definitely have to disagree with you on Dan Brown. Angels and Demons was okay, but y'know all those sources he talks about in Davinci Code? He pretty much pulled the whole book out of those and added a one-dimensional set of characters.
And R.A. Slaughtertore is evil. He killed my favorite Star Wars character. *pouts*

I am a huge fan of fantasy, so, of course, I would recommend JK Rowling's series "Harry Potter." They best one - in my opinion - would have to be book three, because it introduces the two best characters in the world (Sirius Black and Remus Lupin).

I am currently in the middle of two series. One is called "Exiles" by an author named Melanie Rawn. She is working on the third and final book of this series, and those who are interested in magic, war, and romance should read this book.

The series I have just started is called "The Mage Wars," a co-written book by Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon. It's quite interesting, considering the fact that one of the main characters is a gryphon named Skandranon. I'm on book two of the three book series, but, fortunately, Mercedes has written a whole trilogy that is called "The Heralds of Valdemar," that takes place in the world she created. I hope to read all of her books, and you should to.

I love Skan! I've read all of her books--the only ones I didn't like were the Owlflight trilogy. It was a bit to predictable and campy for my taste. And Melanie Rawn started working on book three of Ambrai in '99. I know, I've been waiting for it since then. sweatdrop

Skan is such an adorable character. You can't help but love him the first time you meet him.^^

Oh, and I cried so bad when I finished the second book of "Exiles"! I mean, how could she...? *tapes mouth shut and cries* crying
Anyhow, I'm done. *sniffle* Yeah, I'm over-emotional like that....Like when I read "The Order of the Pheonix" of Harry Potter.... gonk crying

I've had a few where I've screamed out "No!" or "What the-?!" in crowded bookstores, restaurants and airplanes. I learned not to take new books on the airplanes... stare

If you like Harry Potter, I strongly recommend all of the Chronicles of Narnia, in order. ^_^

They're being made into movies again, this time with Disney megabucks behind them, and the first (second) one looks awesome >.<

I highly recommend the Narnia books before you get flooded with the Disney version.

I don't think I've ever cried so hard as I did when I read the end of the last book. T.T Aw hell, I'm tearing up again. >.<

Hell yeah, I got the entire set in hard cover, although A Horse and his Boy is missing and it's mocking me. >.<

I recommend that everyone put Narnia on this summer's reading list - just so they get one last unspoiled look at Narnia before we're flooded with ads for the new Narnia movie(s).

*hugs the Canadian who's near her age* Yes, definitely Narnia. And while I have that on my mind, I MUST put in for Fables. Awesome comic series, books 1-5 are out.

Hm, never could get myself into the Harry Potter books, they are too...cliche and simple for my taste.

I however do love Diana Wynne Jones, knew about her even before the books started having that saying "Like HP, then you'll like Diana" or whatever. Which I find lame, because jeez, DWJ is not at all like Rowling in her books and such.

Have to agree that I love the Harry Potter series ^.^ Book three especially (although the movie tops the list of worst book-adapted movies I've ever seen stare )

I also want to mention the Artamis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. I find that it kept you guessing the whole way. ^.^ Another series is the Veritas Project series by Frank Peretti. Also very suspensful and mysterious *nodnod*

David Clement-Davies is another extraordinary author. his books are fantasy-animal-type books, but have a rich, deep story. He wrote Fire Bringer and The Sight. READ THEM!!! On the topic of authors, I also love Robin McKinley and Nepali (I forget her first name sweatdrop ) The retell fairy tales, but kind of darker and deeper.

And here's another random title: Shadow Bringer, about 1001 Arabian nights, only different 3nodding

And ya gotta love the classice ^.^ White Fang, The Call of the Wild, Farenheit 451, Dracula, Black Beauty (not as sad as the movie), I love classics heart

Well, got my opinion out there ^.^;;

Oh! I recently (well, maybe a month and a half ago) finished a book called "The Amulet of S---" something or other. I think it was Sanarkand, though I may be getting it mixed up with this guys gaia username (which is SailorZanarkand). It's a really good book, mostly because the author is really open-minded (same with Melanie Rawn and Mercedes Lackey). I like authors who have characters who are gay and lesbian because the world has them, and books are the best way to spread that...I'll stop preeching now ^^;

I just read Battle Royale by Koushun Takami and it owns everything else.

I read The Tribune by Patrick Larkin last summer. It was pretty good also.
