Besides the obvious language differences, what are others? Is it basically the same music, or does German music have something music sung in English lacks? Why are we drawn to it, as opposed to music from, say, France? Or are we all just weird?
Discuss!
(Yes, I'm fishing for anything slightly discussion-worthy... got better ideas? Post!)

i think that German music is much deeper than English music...more to think about with the lyrics...with English they're kinda straight forward, where as German lyrics are more...thoughtful or intriquite (sp?)...maybe.

Depending on which English you talk about.
American v. German is apparent: The flavour of German music is harder, combined with a rough language it achieves an awesome effect together. German from females can sounds softer than men, but I tend not to listen to feminen music. American music other than rap has a flavour of emo whine and scratch, all the vocals are higher pitched and sound really... whiny.
I don't know much about the flavour of music from the UK.

I think German rock music is better, simply because of the overall sound and phonetics of the language. The singers don't even have to put effort into trying to sound sinister really.

Because most, but not all American bands lack the musical sound of KMFDM, Rammstein, Megaherz, etc, etc. And the German language just fits it perfectly, it's the greatest sound in the world. pirate

Music from the UK > most music from Germany Ooh, how I wish I was english! Such a beautiful language and such a will to experiment. : D That was my inner UK- and especially Radiohead-fanboy.It's not all that different, unless you just go for the language. There are good bands everywhere, and, well, different kinds of music everywhere. Finding something you like just depends on what you've just found.
Plus, according to the "harsh"-thing, please listen to this.

Japanese music (esp. J-Pop and J-Rock) irks me to no end... the UK has never produced any rock that's worthy of mine ears (any American rock group is more tolerable)... heard some French drivel which was simply too horrid to imagine... Russia unfortunately doesn't even seem to have a modern music industry (except TATU, whom I don't really like)...
So really, it seems the only countries whose music (especially their rock) I can stand are America, Germany, and Spain (for what little rock it has produced). America pretty much made rock what it is today, so that's no surprise... and Germans and Spaniards are all-round cool people, compared to many other European nations. Real shame there's not much Russian rock out there.

Personally I like the sound of German much more than English that sounds too soft for my taste. I mean of course English works out very well e.g. for rock music but german is much harsher in sound so the message of the lyrics get a deeper meaning. At the moment in Germany we have an agitation which is called "The new german wave" because now singing in our native language is IN again! A few years ago most bands sung in English and those who didn't weren't pretty successful (except of Die Ärzte, a Punkrock primitive rocks in Germany). For Rap or Hip-Hop German is (between French) an absolut perfect language because of the harsh sound that makes you sound like the..uhm...tightest Rapper ever... yo! xD Please listen to Kool Savas - Das Urteil
