Elementals are primarily human in appearance with distinctions among the different elements. There are four main clans: Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. Each of these clans is gifted with the ability to control that element and are given second forms coinciding with it.
Clan Info:
Earth Elementals are the most human in nature with varying hair colors and skin tones. All Earth Elementals have earthen color eyes, meaning brown, greens, and some grays. In their human form, plants seem to gravitate towards them and thrive in their presence. In their second forms, Earth Elementals take on brown and green colors in their skin and hair and they seem to meld into their surroundings. Some Earth Elementals can even turn into trees. Because of this, Earth Elementals are often spies. The more powerful Earth Elementals can manipulate the plantlife and very earth itself. The current Elemental queen is an Earth Elemental.
Water Elementals are mainly characterized by their blue eyes and fluid movement. Water Elementals are often prized warriors because of their natural abilities. For their second form, Water Elementals can become water itself. They can either retain their human shape or they can become shapeless and join other bodies of water. Water Elementals have the ability to make rain, control streams and rivers and even the ocean to a degree.
Air Elementals are the most easily recongnized elementals along with Fire. Air Elementals come in all human appearances, but as they move, they become semi-transparent and seem to float. In their second forms, Air Elementals can become completely transparent and move upon the winds, traveling great distances in a very short time. In an army, Air Elementals are often scouts. Air Elementals can make and contol winds.
Fire Elementals are very distinctive. Their hair is always a red color, and their skin has a slight orange/red glow to it. Fire Elementals are fierce and tempermental, often causing them to be used as berserkers in an army. In their second form, Fire Elementals become a walking fire with a human shape. They control nearly all aspects of fire, but often have very little self-control when upset or angry.
Others: There are spirits that associate themselves with one particular element in nature, these sprits are also Elementals. In fact, they are the ancestors of the Elemental clans after a few centuries of occasional breeding with humans. The Ancient Elementals often exist on a different plane, living at one with nature, not concerning themselves with the mortal world. Ancients Elementals include dryads, river gods, and related creatures.
Personalities:
Earth Elementals are very grounded creatures, loving reason and logic. Because they are such sound-minded people, they often help with negotiations.
Water Elementals are much like water itself, ever changing. The are prone to mood swings and can become quite violent if they become angry.
Air Elementals tend to be dreamers. Their minds constantly wander and they're considered somewhat flighty. Air Elementals are very creative and have been noted authors and artists.
Fire Elementals have horribly short tempers. They can be extremely violent by nature. They can also be very outgoing people, attracting others with ease.

Clan Territories
Each clan has it's own separate land. The Earth Elementals live in Shanell Forest, the Water Elementals live on the shores of Thanta Lake, the Air Elementals live on Rynt Mountain, and the Fire Elementals live in the Ash Fields. There is a central city, Galladan, is where the Royal throne resides. Galladan is located equi-distance from each clan.
Government
Each clan is led by a chosen leader. This leader is chosen upon the death of the previous leader and leads the clan for life. The leader isn't picked based upon heritage, but rather by ability and skill.
Each of the clan leaders reports to the Elemental Queen. To prevent war amongst the clans, it was decided along time ago to have a central leader that would work to keep the peace. It was decided that this high leader would be a queen because it was observed that women were closer to life itself, being the bearers of life, and that they often sought to keep the balance. A royal house was established, and is was made to include all of the elements. The queen is required to marry an Elemental of a clan that is not of her own Elemental nature. The throne isn't necessarily passed on to the oldest daughter, but rather which daughter seems to be most fit for the role.
The current queen has recently ascended upon the throne and has yet to find a husband.
Elemental Determination and Life Span
When Elementals intermarry, the children become that element of the parent with the most dominant element. They are as follows:
Fire+Earth=Fire Earth+Air=Earth Air+Water=Air Water+Fire=Water Fire+Air=Fire Earth+Water=Water
The mortal Elementals have a life-span of around 350 years. The Ancient Elementals are immortal, however.

Religion
Elementals primarily believe in balance, and because of this, each clan has a god and a goddess which they worship. Each clan has their own temple in their land, and there are priests and priestesses that work there. But the main temple is located next to the royal palace in Galladan. At the main temple, all of the gods and goddesses are worshipped together. To show her dedication to the land as a whole, the Queen serves as a priestess to all of the clan gods and goddesses, not just her Elemental god and goddess.
Earth worships Enki and Terra
Water worships Nereus and Maya
Air worships Anil and Ilmatar
Fire worships Ignatius and Azar

History
Elementals are the descendants of Ancient Elementals, creatures such as dryads and river gods that appear in human mythology, and humans. When the Elementals first began settling their land civil wars between clans broke out often. After a hundred years of this, the clans grew weary of the fighting and sought peace. Thus, they established their matriarchal society, and peace has reigned ever since.
The Elementals remained neutral during the Great War, not wanting to get involved in affairs that did not concern them. There were a few Elementals that fought on one side or another, but very few.
Only recently has the Elemental kingdom began to interact with the other kingdoms, starting with Charis' great-grandmother, the Fire Elemental queen Breanna.
