Here's some of my most recent story. Enjoy:
It was another beautiful day at Corlen. The weather was kind and the flowers were blooming. Still, this did nothing to aid Vanessa Rosswood's sour mood.
"Merl!" She cried. "Merl! I know you can hear me! Where have you gotten off to this time?"
Merl was always causing some trouble or another whether he meant to or not. He was well-known for making Vanessa run all over town in a hurry to find him. Some people were just too irresponsible, thought Vanessa as she went to check behind a few bushes.
Just as she turned her back, an apple hit her head causing her to fall into the bushes. Struggling to pull herself up, Vanessa was helpless to the plants' attacks as sharp thorns pricked her in every direction. Her ebony hair was in a tangle and all she could hear was Merl's infuriating laughing from behind her.
"Aargh! You monster!" she said. "What's the big idea!?"
Still grinning, Merl gave her a hand up which she promptly pushed away.
"Tut, tut, Vanny you should really know better! Always take help from your older brother!"
Vanessa ground her teeth. "Oh stop that. You're only older by a few seconds. But you'll never cease reminding me of that, will you?"
"Probably." Merl replied. "What are you doing anyway? I heard you calling my name from like, miles away or something. It sounds like you're in a rage again."
"That's probably because you've been avoiding me all day for no good reason. You know full well we have to help out the Karai Festival's preparation." she said.
Merl scoffed and flicked his hand north where it pointed to their house. "I don't suppose father's coming back for the festival?"
That dampened Vanessa's fury. "Yeah... Papa said he was busy again. But at least he sent a bird back, right? He also hinted he might be getting gifts for the festival!"
"Really? It's been ages since he did that. It's always been a Karai tradition to exchange gifts sure, but, it's not like we're a normal family, is it Van? I mean, you know what mother was like more than anyone does."
Vanessa shuddered, remembering her mother and past. Cold blue eyes a seemingly gentle smile and that awful flowery smell ... Vanessa hated her. Everything about her. Back then, Merl and Vanessa actually got along. Maybe it's because they were both so scared. Either way, it didn't last long, that's for sure... Merl was almost Vanessa's opposite. His brown hair to her black. His orangey eyes to her blue. They were like white and black.
"Wakey, wakey Vanessy! Come back to the real world." Merl said waving a hand in front of her face. Her irritation seemed to be his pleasure.
That's all I've got for now. Any comments or complaints would be appreciated cause I'm not confident on my story.
