((This thread is for Kaleb and Luxord, set in a library a couple days after Demyx's angelic transformation.))

Kaleb sat quietly at a desk in a far corner of the library, working through a large medical text with a determination that was at the same time both fierce and desperate. After the events at the beach a few days ago, studying seemed to be the only thing he was able to focus on. Without knowing how Demyx was doing, he functioned as best he could in a rather distressed and anxious state, coping with his emotional turmoil by working harder than he ever had. He hadn't been able to help Demyx then, so he vowed he would improve his skills, toughen up, and develop whatever strength was necessary to help next time.

Generally the Gambler wasnt found in libaries. He could get information in much more intresting ways but his little girl wanted a new book and of course he has been roped into finding it for her.

He wasnt all that sure he'd be able to find the book but he had been given its name and writers so perhaps it wouldnt be that hard.

Walking though the shelves he headed for what he suposed would be the section he needed slowly. The silence of the place was almost familier as it reminded him of the silence of the Castle

As focused as he was on the book in front of him, Kaleb was unlikely to notice the sounds of someone else wandering the aisles. He had found himself at a dead end, none of the texts he had gone over that day had even a clue as to what might have happened to his friend, and therefore no hint as to what magic may have been of use.

With a frustrated sigh he closed the book and stood up, quickly making his way back to the shelf where he had found it so he could return the useless thing. But walking quickly while firmly entrenched in one's thoughts often resulted in running into things, or other people, so he would have been wiser to pay attention to his surroundngs.

He looked up just in time to see Kaleb walking toward him and reached out to set his hands on the other's shoudlers to stop him just before they colided. "Lost in thought again are you?" He chuckled as he looked down at the mage.

Kaleb jumped a bit and nearly dropped the book, but he was relieved to look up and see a familiar face, and hear a familiar voice. "I-I w-was just returning this-" He stuttered, before his face paled and he blurted out, "Is Demyx okay?"

He smiled soflty. Of course Kaleb would still be worried about what had happened to his friend. "Demyx is fine, a little on the unbalanced side but fine."

He'd even stopped hurting after a few days, unless he tried to do something complicated.

Kaleb felt like an enormous weight had been lifted off his shoulders, and he almost fell over in it's absence. He was so relieved he could have cried, but he managed to keep that inside. That news didn't dissolve all his distress though.

"I-I'm really sorry," He said quietly to Luxord, glancing up at the taller Audio with a miserable and apologetic look. "I-I know you trusted I could keep Demyx out of trouble, b-but I-I let him walk away, a-and..." The scrawny mage trailed off, not quite able to get the words out.

He shook his head. "It's not your fault." Not that Demyx would have blamed Kaleb anyway and Luxord really didnt think that Kaleb could have really gotten Demyx into trouble. Espically with the way he was reacting to it.

Kaleb shook his head, unable to meet Luxord's eyes. "N-no, I sh-should have stopped him, but I didn't! I-I just let him leave all alone, even though I didn't want to." He bit his lip, fighting back all the emotions that had haunted him since the incident.

He brushed his fingers over one of Kaleb's ears. "Shush ... its not your fault." He really didnt blame Kaleb for Demyx getting hurt. Not like he still blamed Saix for hurting him.

Kaleb's lower lip trembled a bit, but there really wasn't much he could say in response to the gambler's reassurances. At Luxord's touch, he glanced up with a rather lost look, trying to convince himself that Luxord was telling him the truth, and at the same time trying to integrate that fact with his strong emotions.

"There wasnt any perminate damage and Demyx seems to rather link the wings." He chuckled softly. "So dont fret over it. I dont blame any of it on you"

Kaleb sniffed a bit, looking lost for only a second before dropping his book and reaching out to cling to Luxord in a tight hug. Rarely ever did his need for comfort outweigh his social reservations, but at that moment he really needed someone to cling to. He trembled a bit, but managed not to cry on Luxord's coat.

He wrapped his arms loosely around Kaleb as he was clung to. It suprised him slightly as he wasnt used to anyone but Demyx and perhaps his children clinging to him but he didnt let it show.

"You've been keeping this all bottled up havent you." He spoke gently to the little blond. "You can cry if you wish, its alright"

Although Kaleb sniffed a bit more, he didn't cry. "I-I was so afraid..." He managed to get out before his breath hitched a bit more. He really wanted to tell Luxord how thankful he was that the gambler had taken care of Demyx when he wasn't strong enough to have done so himself, but he didn't trust himself to speak.
