Take a soul away from a human, and what do you get? A lifeless mass of flesh that held within it no more personality than a stick upon the ground? A normal person whom never truely understood who they were as a person? Or was it that souls truely never existed to begin with? Was it that everything was merely a set pattern of events in someone's life, and a "soul" was merely a facade so people could hide their pure, animalistic qualities behind a shroud that could easily be named an excuse?

Those questions seemed to dance upon the young woman's mind. Everything once seemed so alive, so new. Now it was merely a mundane hell that brought about a dull ache in her youthful heart that she couldn't seem to be rid of. For one of such short years, she should not even be fancying the notions that so tormented her brain, and yet still she did. Still she tormented herself to the point that she dwelt on the barrier that denied one the break that would cause tears to freely flow, and sobs to come unchastized.

Seventeen was merely her age. Such a simple crest that most girls merely pass. The beginning of womanhood. The beginning of a new life that she knew she couldn't lead. She knew that nothing could have ever prepared her for this.

Her parents had been high mages within the Orion. The Orion was the origional cult of mages whom worked as a police force to keep justice and order within their home lands. For many years, however, there had been a rebellion building against the Orion. They were out to knock them off of their throne and dirty their perfect outward appearance. They were out for revenge.

Many of the rebellion [Whom dubbed themselves The Strife], were once hopefuls whom wished to become a part of the Orion. They wished to wield the power that only the Orion rightfully had access to. For one reason or another, they were denied. The rest were common criminals whom had tasted the wrath of the Orion, and dubbed them worthy of down fall. Whatever their reasons, they were out for blood.

One night there was a siege upon the Orion headquarters. Many escaped in time, and many of The Strife were killed in the process, but three of the leaders of The Strife cornered the girl's parents, ripping their souls from their bodies before quickly escaping back into the night like rats who cared not to be killed.

The girl was never permitted to see her parents. She got the news from an Aunt as she was sent away to live with her. Her Aunt was a completely unmagicly inclined individual who supressed any of the teachings of her parents in the way of casting. She had to learn to cast in secret, as to not get beatings for disobeying.

Her Aunt's lifestyle was not one that she so enjoyed. It was rather stuck up and bland. Nothing exciting ever happened other than her bimonthly ball that she threw, in which the girl would have to work until her fingers bled to make sure everything ran as her Aunt so wished, and then manage to look courtly while she was dead tired. Not much of an existance...

Escaping was the only measure in which she could see herself surviving with some sort of sanity. She had nowhere to go, noone to depend on, and yet she didn't really care. She needed to get away, and as such, she did. She ran one night after filling two packs full of as much food as she could carry [Which was quite a bit], and then stealing away with the horse that she had brought with her when she was forced to move. A pitch black mare with slight white speckles upon her, making her seem much like Midnight. Thus, her name.

The pace for them both was that of a rushed bandit, trying to bring as much distance between herself and her Aunt's estate as humanly possible. Lucky for her, she knew how to hide away in the clearings that littered the heavily wooded area.

She kept her curly auburn hair tied in a plain brown hand kerchief, her big brown eyes glowing slightly in the failing light, catching any and all light that might spring forth. Moving deftly through the brush, with her horse's reins clutched tightly within her grasp, she continued on, hoping for a better life, and hoping to avenge her parents..

I wonder if there's real trouble here, or if she's just a bandit. Definitely the former, she's too well dressed for a bandit. Curious...

Deep in the forest a figure landed deftly on a limb, she leaned against the trunk feeling the weight of her fatigue. She had been running for several says straight, using every means she could think of to throw her pursures off her trail. With a heavy sigh she put her back to the trunk and slid down leaning her head back. I should be able to rest here, looking around she gave a mental nod to the area. It was dense enough that those on the ground wouldn't be able to see her unless they where directly under the branch, though if someone was at her height they would be able to see her.

"tch, who would want to look at me", she mumbled as she looked at he hands, once a soft cinnamin now covered with fur and her nails now razor sharp. She cursed the mage that did this to her, she had been traveling from her father's realm to meet her intended. Their carage had been attacked by stange humanoid animals, she was frozen stiff as she watched the creatures mutilate the guards then passed out as one walked up to her, tracing its blood stained fingers along her face. When she woke she was strapped to a table of some sort, she faguely recalled the leering face of the mage before she fell into the black void of unconciousnes.

The second time she awoke, she wasn't human anymore. the mage had told her she was now merged with a rather rare species of black tiger. He told her she was his finest achievement and she would be his Eve, unable to stand the old man's ranting any longer she had broke the restraints adn fled all the whole he stood praising his creation and laughing at how she wouldn't be free for long.

Shaking her head she let the memory fade into the recesses of her mind as she let herself relax enough to sleep, yet her ears continued twitching at the slightes change in the air.

((Hope this is acceptable ^_^))

Fatigue had surely taken its toll on the poor girl. Her legs ached ever more with every single little movement of the horse as it bounced and rattled forward. She could feel the horse's movements lagging as she finally felt the hours that she had been running. Through all of her fatigue, the only thing that she thought of was the fact that the more that her horse strained, the more possible it was that she would pull a muscle, or worse: Break a leg.

Stopping the horse with a sharp pull back on the reins, she jumped down easily with a fluid motion, listening to the leaves and sticks crack and pop under her boots. Looking about much as a paranoid inept, she sniffled once, the pollen in the air driving her allergies crazy and making it impossible for her to smell anything in the air. That fact was a bit more unnerving than she would have preferred.

Taking her horse slowly through the underbrush, she sighed, her legs ever aching as she moved. She hated the feeling of fire from the inside of her thighs to her calves. "Just a little bit further.. Then I may rest..." Whimpering slightly to herself, she looked back at the horse. "Midnight.. What would you have me do?" She shook her head, thinking it insane that she was talking to her horse, but the fact of the matter was that the horse was her only mean of comfort.

They slowly reached another small circular clearing with lush grass and a small stream of fresh water. It was too perfect for her to reject. Tying her horse to a medium sized tree near the stream, surrounded by a thick blanket of the healthy grass, she allowed herself to lean heavily against a tree. Everything seemed to ache with renewed vigor. She was excessively unhappy.

Why is she on the run? Who's after her? And why am I following? Anyone who sets those off is in for a REAL surprise.

Jumping awake she nearly fell out of the tree, panic flashed accrossed her eyes and she latched onto the branch. Cracking an eye open she looked around and with an indignate sigh she noted she was latched onto the underside of the branch. "Memo to me make sure I'm leaning on two branches rather then one." Retracting her claws she landed softly on her feet her cloak comming around her form. Lifting the hood back over her head she began to move through the trees.

They had been tracking her for several days now, she had quite few tricks up her sleaves. He grinned as he remebered how they had lost her trail at the falls, and then again in a swamp. His tail swished behind him, he rather enjoyed this chase, but was confused why the girl had fled. Father wasn't that and he had told him he had saved this girl from an arranged marrage and gave her a new form a new life. Still there was something off about it all, her sent was mindled with her tears and sorrow. He rested within the branches of a tree over looking a very open field with lush tall grass. The other hunters where milling about testing the air, she had come through here he could smell her. Standing up he lept ahead of the group taking off just as his foot touched the ground. He would find out why she was running away.

She could smell water a head and made way to it, to her delight she found a small creek not seeing anyone she made her way to it. Before she took a handful she took a look at her self and nearly shrieked. She had been running and everything, she brushed the thought away as she made one more causious glance around her before she began to modify her cloak into garmets. With a sigh she looked at her work, she had fashioned underwear and loin cloth to cover them, then taking the hood of she turned the remaining piece of the cloak around and tied it securely behind her. Looking back at her reflection she nodded, satisfied that she was fully covered. She had to admit her new body wasn't that bad, though she didn't think anyone would be very kind to her if they saw her. With a dejected sigh she gathered a handful of water and drank, as she did a verse rang through her head;
Tiger! Tiger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

"Of all the times to fully remeber that verse", she chuckled softly as she stood and sented the air. There was someone farther up stream from her and another a ways off from the first. She paused studying the sent, purhapse she should see who they were so she could distinguish the different sents. Her mind made up she lept into the nearby tree and soundlessly made her way to the first person she had sented. Slowing as she noted she was nearing a clearing. Stopping a tree or so back from the treeline she could make out that the first person was female and she had a horse with her. Tilting her head she filed away the different sents that told her gender and species.

She bagan to feel anxious as she noticed the male had moved, but she couldn't track the sent. Her ears swiveled trying to hear anything as her tail twitched nervously. Deftly she bounded a few trees back senting the air.
