Note: I posted a thread like this in my guild and I also want to post it here to get different opinions. (if that's all right with the mods)
I Want to know your opinions also. This is a discussion on his “Personalities”, how he acts, and other things such as those.
Ok, first of all I have to say that everyone has their different opinion about Youko Kurama, Shuuichi Minamino, and their combined personality known lovingly as Kurama to his friends.
You all are welcome (and encouraged) to debate what is being written in this thread, although I ask that we all keep this discussion civilized. I shall start.

These are my thoughts on Him: (ok this is going to feel like an essay)
All right. First of all I have to elaborate on my “personalities” comment earlier. I have seen MANY fanfics where the author has portrayed Kurama as having as many as three personalities. Those being Youko Kurama, Shuuichi Minamino, and their combined personality Kurama. I agree with this to a certain extent. I believe that there are only two personalities, Youko Kurama and Kurama. I believe that the way he acts as Shuuichi Minamino is just a façade that Kurama puts on in front of people that he doesn’t know, or hasn’t told them about him being an avatar. I also get the genuine feeling that no matter what form he is in that he has a authentic love for his mother Shiori.
~*~ Youko Kurama ~*~
A lot of people don’t understand that as the Infamous “King of Thieves in Makai” Youko had to be VERY ruthless in order for him to get that reputation. Youko would kill a man for looking at him in a way that he didn’t like. And to tell the truth, if I had control of ANY kind of plant-life I’d make them grow into weapons too if someone pissed me off, or was threatening the lives of the ones that I loved. (Just Me)

As Kurama, he is a lot more considerate to those around him. Albeit if you piss him off in either form you are liable to get your a** handed to you on a silver platter.
I feel that the reason for Kurama’s genius in school is derived from the facts that (1) He has a 1000 + year old kitsune soul living in his body, That would have ANYONE acting smarter than the average person. And, (2) Kitsunes are VERY curious creatures, I have no doubt in my mind that the minute Shiori put a book in her son’s hands he started reading none-stop trying to learn all he could about the atmosphere around him. I can already see the look on Shiori’s face when she sees her five year old son sitting down on the couch reading a college level history book. ::LMAO::
I have to touch on this point just a little before I finish. Many people believe that Kurama is ONLY gay. I’m thinking that he is not so much as he would be bi-sexual. The reason that I say this is:
In Japanese Mythology, kitsunes were VERY sexual creatures. That being said, I have no doubt that given the “urge” Youko wouldn’t care what gender his “partner” is as long as each other enjoyed themselves. BUT I don't think that his thoughts are only based around sex either.
Those are all my thoughts for now. I May add more in the future.

My analysis on Kurama's personalities.
Well, first and foremost: There is only one soul--which I must stress. No matter how different Shuichi and Youko seem...they are one. (How terribly cliche I sound.)
One soul, but I think we all can see three distinct personalities--which are just that, personalities. Not different people, which I have to stress again.
The Minamino Shuichi Side
The more human, polite, sweet, gentle, etc., genius. Of course, we all know that this is just a mask at the beginning, but later this side seems to show itself more and eventually fuse with the Kurama side. So it sort of becomes who he really is: a person with a dark past who has developed human qualities of love.
In fanfiction, Shuichi apparently has his trademark Fan Club of Doom! Well, that's his problem, isn't it? sweatdrop
The Kurama Side
Depicted the most often throughout the series. He's the calculating, precise, deadly tactician who can see people's weaknesses and exploit them so easily it's creepy. I like to think of this as Kurama's "main" personality: It expresses him the most.
I have yet to discover why Kurama is so eerily calm, because I don't take the entire "he has years of experience" lecture as a decent answer.
The Youko Kurama Side
The ruthless and cunning legendary bandit. (How like a fox, ne?) He can kill things in the blink of an eye and is a master at breaking codes and seals. Not someone you'd like to meet, unless you're a suicidal fool. This side was let go in the battle with Shigure, but it still is part of Kurama: It merely represents his past.
Many fanfiction writers depict Youko as a sex-craving pig. Excuse me while I hit them over the head with a sledgehammer. There's more to his life than that; otherwise he would hardly be deemed a legendary bandit.

I agree with your one-soul comment because of the fact that in the manga it indicates that Youko merged into the fetus of a child whom didn't have a soul yet, that is if I'm inturpretting it correctly. It would be that or both souls merged by the time Kurama was 10. Either way it works for me.

I agree with the one-soul thing, which I believe is also stated in the anime. It's just canon, I mean. Besides, I doubt two souls could inhabit the same body for long--like Botan said when Yusuke possessed Kuwabara, a person with a sixth sense can only last one hour. So the human body of Shuichi Minamino would've given out soon after birth.

Alright. My opinion on Kurama's personalities is pretty much similar to what you two have been saying. Youko is definately a formidable personality/character. I don't think I'd ever want to come across him if he's in a bad mood...I'd surely do something wrong by accident. I agree about him earning the King of Bandits, means he was really powerful. I also don't think Youko cares as much for strategy as Kurama. Strategy is there...but Youko seems more focused on strength and viciousness. Basically...I view him as the exact opposite of the Shuichi/Human facade personality. Shuichi is just sweet. He's polite and intelligent...I do believe him to be the least important of his personalities...considering he really only uses it when at school or traveling around the human world. Interacting with people who don't know the "real" him. WyndiWingfall The Kurama SideDepicted the most often throughout the series. Especially when he manages to threaten people and still hold onto the calm state at the same time. He uses his mind as well as his strength. Strength can't always win the battle. Basically..my thoughts on him are very similar to yours.

I disagree with the part about im being bi just because no where did the artist state or imply that he liked men.....I'm pretty sure that crazed (and crazy) fangirls just wanted him to be for their own....pleasure... 0.o
I'm not just saying that because I love Youko and Kurama and blah blah blah but really, come on. The artist of the manga is pretty much God to it, whatever they say goes.
