Ok, so this will hopefully be a thread where you can come to learn about music that you might not hear otherwise. Of course, it will be tailored to my taste. I thought about absorbing the Obscure Music thread into this one, but I'll leave that one open for your suggestions so I can do all the suggesting in here. First, I want to suggest that you give KCSU a listen. It's a student-run college station at Colorado State University, about 20 miles from where I live. It's the best college/indie station I've been able to find. They play some very good indie stuff, and they have a fairly wide variety. They also play the occasional main stream song. You can listen live using Windows Media Player.

Here's a song I remember from about a dozen years ago. Great song, great video, in my opinion. The band is Shakespear's Sister and the song is Stay. It actually got quite a bit of play on MTV at that time (you know, back when MTV played music videos). You can see it on YouTube. Let me know what you think.

Check out Extra Blue Kind. They're based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and they have a nice, mellow sound. You can also see a great fan-made video for the song "Pinch, Blink, Stay Alive". The fan is from Chile, and you can see more of her artwork (including the above video) at her Deviant Art page.

Pez Black Hmmn Extra Blue Kind has some intersting sounds there. Not bad at all I think they're quite enjoyable. Next music suggestion: Today is the Day by Apollo Sunshine (that's a link to a free download on Amazon). It's not great musically, but it makes me feel good on days when I'm facing a big challenge or two.

The Ditty Bops are an interesting group. They kind of seem like music that you would hear before World War II. If you go to their songs and lyrics link, you can hear a bunch of their songs. This last year, they toured on bicycle (their instruments and equipment traveled separately).

Today, I'm recommending early Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett era). These songs never get any airplay, and that's unfortunate. Check out See Emily Play (Syd is the 1st guy in the video) and Bike, both from the album A Mouse Named Gerald.

After a nature-inflicted hiatus (biggest blizzard since 1983) followed by winter break (because I work at a university), I'm finally back to a speedy internet connection so I can put a bit more effort into stuff. That includes music suggestions. If you're a rockabilly fan, I think you'll like The Collins Kids. They were a brother-and-sister venture in the 50's that had pretty good success despite being children (when they started out, Larry was ten and Lorrie was eight). You can listen to 30-second clips of a bunch of their songs at this site, but if you only have time for a minute-and-a-half, listen to Whistle Bait either here or here.

Huh. I didn't realize I had let nearly two weeks pass since that last suggestion. But since there are roughly 3 active guild members (not counting mules), I'm not sure it matters. Anyway, I've just found out about this band named The Vincent Black Shadow. Their song "Metro" has been playing a lot on the big alternative station in Denver (you can listen to it on their myspace page). The song kind of reminds me of early No Doubt, before they went mainstream (that's due in part to the fact that they have a girl singer, but there's definitely more to the comparison than that). Their myspace page describes them as "mildly reminiscent of Euro-cabaret with remnants of Blondie / No Doubt as the grinding guitars, hypnotic rhythms, the classical piano all add to this strange world."

Nice to hear the original. Been meaning to check out some Pink Floyd, something I can just never really get into for some reason. And yeah I can deffinatly see a similarity between The Vincent Black Shadow and No Doubt. Which is cool, cause I used to like No Doubt, back before they released Rocksteady.

I've never heard Bowie's version. It must be cool, though, seeing as it's done by Bowie. If you like psychedelic music at all, you really should check out early Floyd. Yeah, I like this band because they're like No Doubt before they turned to crap.

But I got tired of the place and the dramalamaness that was going on. xd
