This topic is to talk about Lord of the Rings. (Do not talk about the movies here!)

I love Lord of the Rings! Tokien's style of writing is unique and his characters are really cool. Tom Bombadil is the best! I need to reread them sometime...Heh.

It was the first book I read...The first long book at age of 11 or something I think...It was what made me read books for real, not short little things anymore, but big, at least 200 pages long ones I mean...It changed me...For the better I hope...

It wasn't the first I read, but it was so good. it helped me keep reading long (200+ page) fantasy books. Tolkien's such an inspiration, yes? His characters really helped bring me into the story, not just his descriptions of things.

The first time I tried to read them in middle school, it was too much. Too confusing. But I tried again in high school, and I was hooked. I am an avid LotR fan now! Now if only I could learn Elvish...

I read the series... I got as far as half way through the last book >.> It was pretty cool heart The style of writing was really nice, but it I found all the description a bit too much >.> (I ended up skimming through a lot of the descriptions >.< not a smart thing to do)
all in all though, it was fun to read. there's heaps of stuff you miss out on (like Tom Bombadil, who is just awesome heart ) or that awesome bit where they're about to go into Lothlorien and Legolas doesn't want to be blindfolded.. xd I think thats prpbably my favorite part in the books... well, if you don't count any part that had Boromir in it >.<; (his funeral was so much more sad in the book ;_; they sung songs for him and everything...*sniff*)

i've been an avid tolkien fan since the cradle (mom was nutso and read Shakespeare, Twain and Tolkien to me for bedtime stories and i watched the old animated versions of the books) Tolkien has to be the best writer of fantasy in the world, no offense to CS Lewis of course but Tolkien trumps every other writer. he truly made modern fantasy

I would like to learn to read, write and speak elvish.
He gives most of the info you need for that in the appendix.
