a mideval based world fraught with conflict and strife. the common people only know peace because the ruling class cares little for the commons. gods, humans, angels and deamons are in a constant power struggle for supremacy and between it all are the point eared ones; humans granted special abilities by the gods.
there are a few ways to get pointed ears. they can be given to you, you can earn them, you could be born with them, or even come across them accidently. in any case, you become other than human at that point and gain a special place in society. one must be careful though, because anything that can be given can also be taken away. some lose their ears in stupidity and are then cast out in disgrace.
the world itself is fairly simple and will change according to how the players interact. forests, swamps, plains, deserts, oceans, etc. are all here waiting for you to explore them. mystical and mundane creatures abound, waiting to ambush the unwary traveler.
have fun!
((partially based on the manga Dragon Knights))

the ones with the ears
the clergy preists are men who chose to follow a deity with all their heart, soul, and strength. they are unwavering in their faith and will do anything to please their chosen god or goddess. they can only be male and if they should ever disobey their deity then they loose their precious ears and their lives are forfeit. preistess' are woman who have devoted themselves to their deity so completly that they become a living conduit for that dieties power and word. essentially, everything they say is the word of the god/dess they serve and are often used as divine advisors for rulers. if a preistess ever does or says anything that would be out of character for that deity she looses her ears and status and renderd barren, perhaps even made sick by a plague. paladins are warriors of their faith. not granted such direct access or power as the preist or preistess, but is granted divine armor/weapons, strength, and a slowing in the aging process, as well as a few useful spells. a paladin loses his ears if he ever runs from the battlefield. can be either gender.
races or other classes angels and deamons are just preists and preistesses that did their job so well they were purifyed by their deity, granted wings and godly powers. the only real difference is that angels are usually associated with light or good deities while deamons are associated with dark or evil deities. if they do loose their status they are considerd 'Fallen' and retain ears and coloration, but lose all powers and ability to fly. if a Fallen mates with a human the result is a half deamon/angel with mild coloration/markings but round ears. they often become preists or preistess' of their parent's deity. elves are humans that have a love of nature. forsaking all this battle between good and evil (which are only points of veiw anyway) they take the middle road, involving a worship of nature, in all its beauty and gore. they gain special magical abilities linked to plants and animals, being able to talk to them and control them in a way. an elf can mate with another elf to make an elven child, an elf can mate with a human to make a half-elf that has round ears. the only thing to tell it from a human child is that, as a baby, plants will grow over the cradle, protecting the babe. even if an elf is born elven it still stands a chance of losing those ears and abilities. if an elf ever performs an atrocity to nature, they will lose it all and the forest will not accept them back until the misdeed is corrected and will not be an elf again until they have proven their worth. druids are usually nature worshipers that have not yet attained elfhood or elves that have lost theirs. this is also a common class for half-elves even if they don't know their heritage. Faeries are like angles/deamons. they are elves, who through upstanding courage and perserverance in the name of Nature have become immortal. when one first becomes a faerie they are small being no more than three inches in height and granted insect like wings and a color that reflects ability and alignment. after many years, if the faerie has gained in power/ability then they then regain their human size and can breed among elves or other large fae to make more elves. there is no record of a faerie mating with a half elf and they cannot mate with humans or other point ears. a faerie is physicly incapable of committing an atrocity to nature. the only way to get rid of a faerie is to kill it. magi are people who through long suffering and attaining of knowledge have found ways to get magic and pointed ears without chosing a side in this huge battle. their magic is limited and cannot be done without spell ingredients or incantations unlike preistly magic which is instantaneous. basicly, a mage has to ask a certain deity for a spell effect whereas the clergy already has permission. magi do not lose their ears (because knowledge cannot be lost) but cannot pass them on through genetics either.
dragons are people inducted into a grand tradition involving all other classes and every nation on the planet. the dragons are the ruling class in this world and basicly the ones fighting eachother for supremacy. the gods of course fight eachother, but they use the dragons as pawns. there are two main branches of dragons that are then divided into many countries; the dragons of light, and the dragons of darkness. that is not to say one is evil the other is good, it really depends on which diety they follow, but sterotypes exist. royalty is both born and made. the king and queen can have but one child to pass the family line through. the young prince or princess then chooses a mate, usually within the dragon ranks, to inherit the two dragon balls from the parent that was inducted as well. a light dragon ball appears as a large pearl and a dark dragon ball appears as a black pearl. these balls grant them the pointy ears and kingly or queenly powers that the other was born with. if the balls are ever lost or seperated then both king and queen lose ears and ablities, and are renderd sterile, until they are brought together again. chromatics are essentially the cabnet members of the court, each have a specific duty to perform to help the kingdom run smoothly. they are usually chosen by the heir from among their friends and others felt trust worthy. they are given a crystal the color of their office which gives them their ears and abilties. there are five, represented by their colors, and both light and dark have all colors in their cabnet. red- is in charge of the army and leads the attack against other nations. black- is in charge of homeland security and spy network. white- is in charge of homeland heath and well being, they often travel to the small vilages within the country to check on health problems. yellow- is in charge of the treasury, taxes, and spending. blue- is in charge of homeland defence and the reserve army. knights are different from the others in that there are only four of them for the whole planet and they seldom know they will become knights until they hear the calling. there are four dragon orbs that rather than being given to someone they chose who their master is. when they have chosen a master they call to them until the chosen person finds them. this person can be from any race or class like other dragons, and when they find the orb they are given pointy ears and the abilites of that orb. fire- looks like a fire buring inside a glass sphere. grants certain powers over fire and a guardian beast called a fire drake, a 20 foot long, 10 foot tall beast with membrane wings like a bat and talons and a lizard-like head that can breathe fire from its mouth. once the orb has been found it turns into a sword, a spear, a scythe or other sharp slashing weapon to the prefernce of the user. air- looks like a cloud inside a glass sphere. grants certain powers over wind and air and a gryphon for a guardian beast. once the orb has been found it turns into a bow and arrows, a belt with infinite shuriken, throwing daggers or other small ranged weapon to the prefernce of the user. earth- looks like a spectacular crystal or geode polished into a sphere. grants certain powers over the earth and a guardian beast called a land wyrm, a 40 foot long snake-like thing that burrows at speeds of 40 mph. once the orb has been found it turns into a hammer, or club, or staff, or other blunt bashing weapon to the prefernce of the user. water- looks like a glass sphere filled with water. it grants certain abilities over water and a sea serpent for a guardian beast, it can travel over land if it has to. once the orb has been found it turns into gloves or some other article of clothing and grants the user ability to use karate, kung fu, judo, or other hand to hand fighting technique. because there are only four dragon knights they are in high demand among the many kingdoms. they can work for any they choose, light or dark, and can work individually or altogether as a unit. sometimes kingdoms will try to find the orbs before their master has, to make the chosen knight come to them. needless to say they are a great asset to any army.
the courts often employ preists and preistess' as advisors and a way to talk to their deity. paladins may be part of their army as well as magi. as the common people know very little about these point eared people they often call them witches or wizards, not knowing any better.
if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to PM me about them.
