It makes me crazy when.....

The cover art is way off on the book. Its drives me crazy when the artist has never read the book. So the mage looks like a romance novel warrior, and the warrior girl is in a dress and swooning. Especially when they get something as simple as the hair color of the main character wrong.

The author thinks that the more twists and turns there is the better. or my favorite is when they try to make everything as complicated and hard to read as possible and thinks it makes the book "intelligent"

What kind of idiot wouldn’t read a book before making the cover art!

And there is something said for simplicity when forming a good plot.

I hate that, too. The cover art helps you form an image of the chraters, then you have to re-adjust it because the story has it totally different!

When they put all sorts of weird twists in the story, it just makes it harder for poor me to keep up with what's happening.

On the other hand, the fact that the covers so rarely do match the books make you really appreciate it when they can put a scene on the cover, and ACTUALLY DO IT WELL!
Most good books have the sense to avoid even putting the main character on the cover, so you just have to give people credit when they do it and get it right!

Actually about half the time, the publisher is pulling from stuff they already have in the 'genre'. The artist sometimes never gets more than the blurb off the back cover... depends on the time constraint.

Yeah, that sucks. One time, I read a Tamora Pierce novel about the Lioness (for those that are familiar with her work), and the cover artist made her blonde. That drove me insane! Nothing against blondes, but the chick was a redhead. Plus, I think that red hair is really beatiful, just like gray or green eyes because it's not as common as blonde or brown hair. Well, at least not were I live.

yeah I agree with you.....
if a good friend of mine finish her story I will make the cover art but I first wanna read it.
is it so difficult to read a book and then make a coverart????????
but okay there are some weird people who do that.

I think that's changed a lot...just looking at some of the covers I see. A lot of old book covers drove me up a wall- especially bodice rippers(seriously, those artists must have practiced n***s of spectacularly well proportioned people) and sci-fi booksXP Not so much fantasy, by sci-fi....ugh.

It really drives me crazy when a book just totally sucks you in (like it should, of course), but then has an anti-climactic, too-quick, or just generally awful ending, like when they don't tie everything up like they just forgot about one thread, and there obviously isn't going to be a sequel to explain the poor finishing. I HATE that!
