I know them! biggrin From you... xp But besides the only album I have I don't know anything of them. But their music is great and I should listen to Wish you were here too because now I can't compare both albums.

wish you were here is sometimes a bit the same. only pink floyd plays better. and they have much longer intro/songs.

Maybe Riverside could put more riffs into their music. But I think they play much more difficult than Pink Floyd does. Sometimes I really can't find out in what rythm Riverside is playing.

I saw The Wall 3 times and I can't remember a song that stayed in my mind except Another brick in the wall, but that's because Korn has covered it xp

I've been meaning to say something here since I joined, honest. While Riverside have an incredible sound, it's interesting how much some tracks sound like other bands. And not just obvious ones either. There are points where you pick up Tool vibes, Pink Floyd, and a quite a few others. The opening and a few other parts of Artificial Smile always trick me into thinking I'm playing Queensryche, and the start of Second Life Syndrome is very strongly reminiscent of Dire Straits, particularly Brothers in Arms or Planet of New Orleans.
My $.02 right there.

you are right, they really look like some other bands in some parts.
i readed on their side that all members of the band really like "wish you were here" from pink floyd. and i can hear those sounds back on the album "out of myself"
i hear more thing i hear in other bands, but i have to say that its almost impossible to create 100% new music without using influences from other bands.
before i forget! i hear much porcupine tree in them, or is that just me?

To be honest, I don't even care what other bands I hear there.. I just like what Riverside is doing. And about the originality thing, I think that to an average metal audience (even that of progressive metal), Riverside still sticks out rather clearly from the mass. Of course, they're not that popular yet among the bigger masses but still.. rolleyes
I liked their approach, it's quite relaxing and pleasant to listen to and still has that feeling of metal and progressiveness. And finally one more vocalist who doesn't have the need to sing in pitches only dogs can hear. ninja

number_17 true 3nodding and its the most relaxing band i know. I categorize some bands to different purposes of listening. For example, there are the general bands that go anywhere; then there are the car bands which sound best when driving a car; the background music bands which work best as background music for, say, writing on forums; etc. Riverside, to me, has always been a mixture of background and car music. rolleyes
