I might remember more books I like but at the moment these are my favourites:
1) 'The Darkness is Light Enough', 'Out Of The Darkness' and 'The Badgers of Ashcroft Woods' by Chris Ferris
2) The 'Tales of the Otori' Trilogy by Lian Hearn (Across the Nightingale Floor is my favourite)
3) 'His Dark Materials' Trilogy by Phillip Pullman (The Subtle Knife is my favourite)
4) 'Magician' by Raymond Feist
5) 'The Wind Singer' by William Nicholson
I also have a soft spot for Enid Blyton books - 'The Faraway Tree' series, 'Famous Five', Mallory Towers' books etc. I grew up reading those 3nodding

I actually only read 'The Ruby in the Smoke' about a month ago! Having really enjoyed the 'His Dark Materials' books I wanted to give another of Phillip Pullman's series a go. I was not disapointed: although more of a mystery story than a fantasy, 'The Ruby in the Smoke' is an exciting adventure. It has a well constructed plot complete with twists and suprises and great characters.
I like books which are action-packed and fast-moving without masses of pages of unneccessary description so this book got the 'thumbs up' from me 3nodding

I couldn't get into 'His Dark Materials', I read most of the first one. I suppose it isn't really my type of book.

I loved the trilogy, but Mogget's choice at the end was wonderful, and made the whole trilogy for me.

Definitely. At my book group at school, my friend and I always agree that Mogget is the best character, and that that part is the best!

I know, and Yrael is such a cool name as well! In fact I love all of Nix's names! You've read the Keys in the Kingdom, right?
