About the covers and their poems at the beginning of each book.

If you have any comments, please comment here. :3

I have a comment - something very very strange.

Poem at the beginning of volume 16 -

furishikiru taiyou no tategami ga
hakuhyou ni nokoru ashiato o keshite yuku
azamukareru o osoreruna

The constant shower of the sun's mane
will erase the remaining footprints on the thin ice.
Don't be afraid to be deceived
for the world is already full of deception.

Last stanza of Sekai wa Sude ni Azamuki no Ue ni, a track on the Ichimaru Gin CD -

Sekai wa sude ni
azamuki no ue ni
Taiyou no tategami ga
ashiato wo keshite ...

The world already exists
upon deceit
The sun’s mane
erases the footprints ...

....um? o.o Well... in the book, it's supposedly spoken by Hitsugaya, but...

Now making a list of the poems~

Volumes 1-10

Note: these were not done by the official translators, but I like these translations better.

Volume 1

Cover: Kurosaki Ichigo

warera wa sugatanaki ga yue ni

sore o osore

We fear

what doesn't exist.

Volume 2: Goodbye parakeet, Goodnite my sista

Cover: Kuchiki Rukia

hito ga kibou o mochieru no wa

shi ga me ni mienu mono de aru kara da

People can possess hope

because our eyes are unable to see death.

Volume 3: memories in the rain

Cover: Inoue Orihime

moshi watashi ga ame datta nara

sore ga eien ni majiwaru koto no nai

sora to daichi o tsunagitomeru you ni

dareka no kokoro o tsunagi tomeru koto ga dekita darou ka

If I were the rain

could I connect with someone's heart

just as it can unite

the eternally seperated earth and sky?

(Note: The translator remarks that it could actually be Rukia speaking, partly in relation to Kaien's zanpakutou command, "Uncoil the sea and sky!")

Volume 4: Quincy archer hates you

Cover: Ishida Uryuu

boku-tachi wa hikare au

suiteki no you ni, wakusei no you ni

boku-tachi wa hanpatsu shiau

jishaku no you ni, hada no iro no you ni

We attract each other

like a drop of water, like planets.

We repel each other

like magnets, like the colors of our skin.

(Note: These are lyrics in one of Ishida's image songs, "Quinci no hokori ni kakete.")

Volume 5: Right arm of the giant

Cover: Yasutora Sado

ken o nigirana kereba omae o mamorenai

ken o nigitta mama de wa omae o dakishimerarenai

If I don't wield the sword, I can't protect you.

If I keep wielding the sword, I can't embrace you.

Volume 6: The Death Trilogy Overture

Cover: Urahara Kisuke

sou, ware-ware ni unmei nado nai

muchi to kyoufu ni nomare

ashi o fumihazushita mono-tachi dake ga

unmei to yobareru dakuryuu no naka he to

ochite yuku no da

True, we don't have anything such as "fate".

It's only those who drunk in ignorance and fear

and stumbled over their own feet

that fell and disappeared among the muddy rivers

known as "fate".

(Notes: The translator remarks that this one is rather creepy. XD)

Volume 7: The Broken Coda

Cover: Kuchiki Byakuya

ware-ware wa namida o nagasu bekidewa nai

ware-ware ga kokoro to iu mono o

moteamasu sonzai de aru to iu koto no

shoumei ni hokanaranai kara da

We should not shed tears

for that will serve as a defeat of our bodies to our hearts.

It is then nothing more than proof

for it to be said that our hearts are things

beyond our ability to control.

Volume 8: The Blade and Me

Cover: Zangetsu

sabitsukeba nido to tsukitaterarezu

tsukami sokonaeba wagami o saku

sou, hokori to wa

yaiba ni niteiru

When rusted, I can't cut again.

When you lose your grip, I will be torn apart.

Yes, it's with that pride that

has me resemble a blade.

Volume 9: Fourteen Days for Conspiracy

Cover: Shiba Kuukaku

aa ore-tachi wa mina

me o aketa mama

sora o tobu yume o miterun'da

Ah, even though our eyes are opened

we are dreaming of

flying through the sky.

(Notes: The translator remarks that this is most definitely Kuukaku speaking, due to the speech patterns in the poem.)

Volume 10: Tattoo on the Sky

Cover: Shiba Ganju

ore-tachi wa te o nobasu

kumo o harai sora o tsuranuki

tsuki to kasei wa tsukamete mo

shinjitsu ni wa mada todokanai

We reach out our hand

to brush away the clouds and pierce the sky,

but even if we seize the moon and Mars

we still can't reach the truth.

Volumes 11-20 will be up in a minute.

Volumes 11-20

Volume 11: A Star and a Stray Dog

Cover: Abarai Renji

todokanu kiba ni hi o tomosu

ano hoshi o mizu ni sumu you ni

kono nodo o saite shimawanu you ni

I will light a fire on an unreachable fang,

so that I won't have to see that star,

so that I won't let it tear at my throat.

(Notes: Something like this was said by Renji in episode 32.)

Volume 12: Flower on the Precipice

ware-ware ga ganpeki no hana o utsukushiku omou no wa

ware-ware ga ganpeki ni ashi o tometeshimau kara da

osore naki sono hana no you ni

sora he to fumidasezu iru kara da

We think the flower on the precipice is beautiful

because our fear makes our feet stop at its edge

instead of stepping forward into the sky

like that flower.

Volume 13: The Undead

Cover: Zaraki Kenpachi

hokori o hitotsu suteru tabi

warera wa kemono ni ippo chikazuku

kokoro o hitotsu korosu tabi

warera wa kemono kara ippo toonoku

Any one time we throw away pride

we take a step closer to becoming beasts.

Any one time we kill a heart

we take a step back from becoming beasts.

Volume 14: White Tower Rocks

Cover: Yamada Hanatarou

kishimu kishimu, jouzai no tou

hikari no gotoku ni sekai o tsuranuku

yureru yureru, sebone no tou

ochite yuku no wa, bokura ka, sora ka

It creaks, it creaks; the tower of cleansed sins,

like the light, it will pass through this world.

It shakes, it shakes; the tower in our spine,

the one that will fall will be... us? Or the sky?

Volume 15: Beginning of the Death of Tomorrow

Cover: Kira Izuru

boku wa tada kimi ni

sayonara o iu renshuu o suru

I am merely practicing

saying goodbye to you.

(Notes: There are pictures on the same page as the poem. In this picture, it depicts hands near someone's throat. It is apparent that the hands belong to Ichimaru, while the throat is Kira. Also, this message sounds more in relation to Ichimaru saying goodbye to Matsumoto. However, it's not written in kansai-ben, the dialect Ichimaru speaks in. Interpret it anyway you want.)

Volume 16: Night of Winjruit

Cover: Hitsugaya Toushirou

furishikiru taiyou no tategami ga

hakuhyou ni nokoru ashiato o keshite yuku

azamukareru o osoreruna

The constant shower of the sun's mane

will erase the remaining footprints on the thin ice.

Don't be afraid to be deceived

for the world is already full of deception.

(Notes: This isn't the translator's note but mine; as stated in the first post, this poem is similar to the last stanza in Ichimaru's image song, Sude ni Azamuki no Ue ni.)

Volume 17: Rosa Rubicundior, Lilio Candidor (Redder Than the Rose, Whiter than the Lilly)

Cover: Shihouin Yoruichi

chi no you ni akaku

hone no you ni shiroku

kodoku no you ni akaku

chinmoku no you ni shiroku

kemono no shinkei no you ni akaku

kami no shinzou no you ni shiroku

tokedasu zouo no you ni akaku

itetsuku shoutan no you ni shiroku

yoru o hamu kage no you ni akaku

tsuki o inuku toiki no you ni

shiroku kagayaki, akaku chiru

Red like blood

White like bone

Red like solitude

White like silence

Red like the beastly instinct

White like a god's heart

Red like thawing hatred

White like a frozen, pained cry

Red like the night's hungry shadows

White shines and red scatters

like sighs that shoot through the moon

(Notes: Several notes for this one. The "red and white" could be Renji and Byakuya, especially since the title of the book is also the title of the chapter in which they fight. It should also be noted that the kanji used for scatter is the same as for Byakuya's shikai. However, it could also be Byakuya and Hisana, since "white" is in Byakuya and "scarlet" is in Hisana. Another possibility is it being Rukia and Renji (red being Renji's hair, white being Rukia's zanpakutou).)

Volume 18: The Deathberry Returns

Cover: Soi Fong

anata no kage wa hisoyaka ni

yuku ate no nai dokubari no you ni

watashi no ayumi o neitsukeru
.
anata no hikari wa shinayaka ni

sayuusuitou o utsu rakurai no you ni

watashi no inochi no minamoto o tatsu

Your shadow stealthily

leaves nothing of where you go, like a poisoned needle

that sews together my footsteps.

Your light pliantly

strikes the water tower, like a lightning bolt

that severs the source of my life.

Volume 19: The Black Moon Rising

Cover: Kurosaki Ichigo

sou, nani mono mo watashi no sekai o kaerare wa shinai

That's right, nothing else can change my world.

(Notes: The translator states that the speaker is probably Zangetsu, not Ichigo, since the pronoun is "watashi.")

Volume 20: end of hypnosis

Cover: Ichimaru Gin

utsukushiki o ai ni tatofu no wa

ai no sugata o shiranu mono
.
minikuki o ai ni tatofu no wa

ai o shitta to ogoru mono

One who paints the beauty in love

is one who pretends to know her form.

One who paints the ugliness in love

is one who once arrogantly knew her.

(Notes: Although Ichimaru is on the cover, it doesn't use kansai-ben dialect. In fact, it uses more the style of speech that Byakuya uses. Interpretation is up to the reader.)

Volume 21-???

Volume 21: Be My Family or Not

Cover: Hirako Shinji

kono yo no subete wa

anata o oitsumeru tameni aru

This entire world

exists for the sake of cornering you.

VIBEs guidebook (I'm not entirely sure what these are, but I assume they're something like a Bleach database)

Cover: Kuchiki Rukia

yoru o hazuru tsuki

The moon that eclipses the night.

SOULs guidebook

Cover: Kurosaki Ichigo

ten o tozasu taiyou

The sun that locks Heaven.

(Note: My own note. It almost seems that the poems in the guidebooks correspond - sun and moon, night and... heaven, which is associated with day.)

More will be added later. :3

On the oficially translated books...
Volume 3
"If I were rain,
That joins sky and earth that otherwise never touch,
Could I join towo hearts as well?"

Volume 14
"Creak, creak , tower of purgatory
Piercing the world like light
Sway, sway, tower of spine
Will it be us or the tower that falls?"

That is what is written on them. I guess VIZ made the poems less complicated to understand. sweatdrop

Actually, for volume 3, I like the fan translation better.

But, true, for volume 14... ^^

But for volume 14... I do like that last line.

"The one that falls will be... us? Or the sky?"

It fits a lot more with the tone of the poem, in my opinion.
