There are several tricks I have discovered throughout my playing of the Nintendogs for Nintendo DS Game.
First, here are some custom tricks you can teach your dogs to learn that will help you in the freestyle of the Obedience Trial.
My dogs have learned these, so they are 100% do-able.
Note that the names of the tricks are what I have named them, they're not official names for the tricks or anything. The tricks aren't even official! They're freestyle!
If you teach your dog these six custom tricks, they'll be the only customs your dog will learn, because your dog can learn only six custom tricks in addition to the seven basic tricks required in Obediance Trials. (Fourteen tricks in all.)
Note that your dog must know the basic tricks required to do these custom tricks very well. If your dog does not know the basic tricks used to perform the custom tricks, your dog will not perform the custom trick; it will merely perform the two tricks seperatly, rather than the first trick, and then the custom trick you are trying to teach it.
Nikumi's Guide to Custom Tricks
Speak You must own a Keyboard. They are occasionally availible at the discount shop for $120 or something. When in operation, put the camera of the Keyboard on the dog you want to teach the trick to. Play a note. The dog should bark, and the Light Bulb should shortly appear on the top right corner of the Touch Screen. It might take a few seconds for it to appear, so be patient. Then, press the Light Bulb and teach your dog the command for "speak."
Stand Your dog must know the "Beg" command. (To teach your dog this trick, go to Supplies, Care, and read the Dog Training Book.) First, tell your dog to beg. Then, lift your dog's paw up until it is in a standing position. (It might take a few times to know how to do this correctly.) The light bulb should appear either while the dog is standing or immediatly after it has gotten out of the standing position. (Stand= on its hind legs.) Touch the light bulb with your stylus and teach your dog the command for "stand."
Backflip This command is rather simple. Your dog must know the commands for sit and jump. First, tell your dog to sit, and then jump. Ta-daa! Your dog should do a backflip. Touch the light bulb that appears on the top right corner of the Touch Screen, and teach your dog the command for "backflip."
Breakdance Your dog must know the commands for roll over and spin. First, tell your dog to roll over. Then, tell it to spin. Your dog should spin around on its back. Touch your stylus to the light bulb that appears and teach your dog the command for "breakdance."
Handstand Your dog must know the commands for beg and lie down. First, tell your dog to lie down. Then, tell it to beg. Your dog should then perform a handstand. When it is back to standing normally, the training icon (light bulb) should appear. Touch your stylus to it and teach your dog the command for "handstand."
Waddle Also known as walking on two legs. Your dog must know the commands for beg and spin. First, tell your dog to beg. Then tell it to spin. Your dog should then walk/rotate in its begging position on two legs, sort of like it's waddling like a penguin. Touch your stylus to the training icon that appears on the Touch Screen and teach your dog the command for "waddle."
Worm Your dog must know the commands for roll over and jump. First, tell your dog to roll over. After it is on its back, tell it to jump. Your dog should thrust itself onto its feet from the lying on its back position, sort of like the worm. As I have read somewhere, it also resembles a move performed in Kung-Fu. Touch your stylus to the Training Icon and teach your dog the command for "Worm."
Pronunciation Mini-Guide
I've had a few problems with pronunciation in Obedience Trials, so here are some suggestions:
All of these pronunciations make the tricks more distinguishable to your dog, in my perspective.
Sit Instead of "sit down," I tell my dog to "sit," as not to get Sit confused with Lie Down.
Shake Instead of "shake," I tell my dog to "shake hands," as not to get Shake confused with spin, sit, or anything else.
Spin Instead of "spin," I tell my dog to "spin around," as not to get Spin confused with sit or shake, plus "spin around" is a more distinguishable pronunciation than just "spin" alone.
Jump I know this is really weird, but I tell my dog to "Jumpy" instead of "Jump," because I have had some problems with the Jump trick in Obedience Trials in the past.
Stand Instead of "stand," I tell my dog to "Stand Up," merely because the trick is more easily distinguished to my dog, therefore allowing it to remember it better.
Now, that's the end of my hefty guide. Hope you enjoyed it, and it helped you. :3
If you have a question about the Nintendogs game for Nintendo DS or this guide of any sort, be sure to ask me! This way, I can add an a Q&A section.

Wow, that's a lot. How did you learn all that? I have a Keyboard but I never knew I could make my dog speak! Well, as in learn the command because I was always too engrossed in playing a tune.

Have you got the trick where some sort of siren occurs and your dog barks? It happened to me once but never again...

Yeah, I call it "Howl." Haven't got any of my dogs to do that yet. You just press your dog's icon right after the siren and a training bubble will appear.

tashalin Princess_LArachel Have you got the trick where some sort of siren occurs and your dog barks? It happened to me once but never again... OMG. Maybe that was the siren for a cheat to get the dalmation. eek Hmm... in another thread there was something about it relating to the aquisition of the Dalmation breed, yes. Apparantly you're supposed to go for a walk right after the siren occurs, with perfect stats [beatiful coat, full, quenched, last food dog ate N. Dog foor bag] and you might get it. I've tried it, but it didn't work, so I was probably doing it wrong. ^^;

You know...I've been wondering...Why do dogs get stuck with a move and only do that trick? Like my Shiba only does 'Beg'....
