and if you did not understand that, then when do you know it is time to get a better violin? i have had mine for about 5 years now and it orginally came from a music store for students....if that makes sense.

i would say that when your skills have advanced far enough, and the sound your violin produces isn't what it could be then you should probably consider looking at different violins. 3nodding

if your violin is keeping you from sounding as good as you can, or is limiting your playing in anyway, you need a better one

Well, if you like the sound of your violin, then keep it. I've had mine for years and years, and I still like it.
