((OOC: On board one of the starship Tyrana's escape pods that has crash-landed on Pern))

Marcus awoke to a pounding headache. He opened his eyes and saw nothing.

"Lights on." He said, but the lights did not turn on. Was the computer malfunctioning? He tried to get up, but something was holding him down. His eyes were adjusting to the darkness now, and he realized that he was in a crash seat, restraining straps wrapped tightly around him. He looked around. He was in an ejection pod! He tried to think. What had happened?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

((OOC: Flashback to on board the starship Tyrana))

Marcus was lounging around in the Tyrana's recreation room. He was standing in front of one of the windows, nose pressed to the glass, mesmerized by what lay beyond. The object of his attention was a K-type planet, the third from it's sun.

So, this is Rukbat-3... Pern, he thought as he stared. He had never seen a planet before, having been raised on the ship, and neither had any of the other teenagers on the Tyrana. They knew only of steel bulkheads and blinking computer screens. The only things they knew about life on a planet were from the tales told them by the adults on the ship. The tales about Earth.

So this is the planet we have been travelling to since I can remember... Marcus could hardly contain his excitement. For his entire life, he had waited for the moment they would land on the planet that now lay in front of him, and that moment would be very soon. At the moment, they were assuming an orbit from which they could launch the ship-to-surface shuttles which would be the landing craft. He was deep in thought when a loud explosion rocked the ship and the sirens went off. Marcus could feel panic coming from the adults. This was no drill. A voice came over the shipwide intercom.

"This is the chief engineer. We have a leak in the antimatter engines. The ship is going to explode! Get to the escape pods as fast as you can and launch." As Marcus ran, he was filled with anxiety, fear, depression, and anger. This ship was his home! It had brought them so far only to be turned into dust? No, that just couldn't be! The ship shook again and all thoughts exited Marcus' mind, save one: Get to the ejection pods! When he finally got inside, he strapped himself down. He didn't want to believe this was happening, so he closed his eyes tight. When the pod had launched, all chances of disbelieving the situation melted away. When the pod crashed, he had gone unconscious.

----------------------------------------------------------

((OOC: Back to the present))

Marcus hadn't seen who else had gotten in the pod, and since there were no windows, he had no idea who else might be there. Trembling at the thought of being the only survivor, he opened his mouth and spoke.

"W-who else is in here?"

((OOC: All of you other survivors, time to respond))

L'ron was awoken by a pandemonium of noise. It seemed that every dragon, firelizard, and watch-wher in Benden Weyr was crooning, chirping, and growling in confusion.

"What's going on?" He shouted.

The sky! There is a ball of fire in the sky! The strange thing exploded! Explained Zephyth, his bronze dragon. L'ron's heart turned cold.

You mean the object that appeared yesterday? L'ron began to dress, using his psychic abilities to snatch clothes without touching them, dressing extremely fast.

Yes, that is the one! Why did it explode?

I don't know... Wait a minute... The pieces! There must be parts of it that are going to crash into Pern!

One already did.

Alright, awaken every dragonrider in the weyr. Tell them to put their gear on. We need to examine that piece of wreckage. A thousand thoughts flew through L'ron's mind. Why had the object exploded? As far as they had been able to figure out, it was something created by the civilization that the people who decided to colonize Pern came from. What was the home planet called? Earth? The stories passed on from the last Pass, the stories from Aivas, were well-known by now. This had been a chance to meet the people who had technology beyond their wildest imaginations... And now it was gone... If there was any lost technology in that piece of wreckage, they needed to find it. He only hoped they could.

Karie heard one of the others call. Her head ached from the landing. She tried to get to her feet but found that a hard task to accomplish. "Over here!" She called out to whoever it was that had called out in the first place. She touched her head and felt blood trickling down her forehead.

"Karie, is that you? It's me, Marcus! Who else is in here?"

"Marcus!" She called out. "I can't get up, I think my leg is broken." Pain seered in Karie's left leg, making her moan.

Alex got up and shook his head wondering where he was. He heard Marcus calling for anyone who had survived. "I'm over here!" Alex replied.

C'llen had only been asleep for several hours until a ear shattering crash erupted from the silence. The strange occurance suddenly had triggered every watch-wher, dragon and flit that took refuge within Benden Weyr to both bellow out terrible warnings and keen in the wake of destruction.

Talonth had stirred and arisen from his resting place, his eyes whirling with vibrant oranges and deep crimson. Something was terribly wrong. Unfurling his wings as they drapped at his side, the brown lunged over to where his rider was barely awake.

C'llen, wake up! The sky has erupted in flames!

The brownrider shot up instantly and portrayed a horrified look upon his face. Did he hear right? The sky erupted in flames? Slipping his body out from underneath the thick fur blankets, C'llen leapt out of bed and began slidding on a pair of baggy, wherhide pants as he glimpsed outside.

How long ago? He quickly replied as he managed to buckle his pants and enclose his upperbody within his riders jacket, lined with the finest of furs that were suitable for journies between.

A few minutes. Hurry! Weyrleader L'ron has summoned every dragonriders assistance.

Lacing the last string upon his boots, C'llen was just about ready to make way to the terrace and depart down its stairs until he reached up to his head and found something missing.

"Shards! My helmet! Talonth do you know where my h-", glancing back at the enormous brown, C'llen smirked as Talonth held the tattered helmet within his maw. Talonth losened his grip allowing the helmet to fall into his riders hands and barely as it fell, C'llen grasped it and clasped it upon his head.

The brown rumbled softly as his rider mounted steadily into position. As C'llen gave the okay, Talonth leapt into the air as he furiously beat his wings against the cool airs of the morning. Though he was a bit baffled on where to meet, Talonth knew one who could instruct them of where to meet.

Zephyth, C'llen and I come. Where do we meet?

Danika had been sound asleep when her fire lizard began chirping in panic. She woke up, "What is it Dawn?" She looked out the window and saw the Weyr's dragons rousing in a panic. She lept out of bed, hurridly dressed herself and ran inot the main part of the Weyr to see what had happened.

((OOC: Sorry that I'm taking so long to post. My computer is working slower than my internet connection. And when you consider that the connection is only 56k, that's pretty bad. Oh, and by the way, Stryder, when I said you can have a terran character, I meant a character from Earth. Only those characters are allowed to start with both telekinesis and telepathy. Pernese people can't.))

Meet us above the bowl. Quickly! Replied Zephyth to Talonth's question. L'ron, using his telekinetic abilities to quickly snatch and don his helmet while his hands were putting on his boots, finished getting geared up and ran toward the weyr ledge and jumped off. With the timing that could only come with extreme familiarity, Zephyth was right under him, and L'ron landed on the riding neck. Zephyth headed towards the bowl.

"Don't worry, Karie, I'll get the med-pack. Alex, can you turn on the lights?" Marcus unstrapped the restraints holding him to the seat. "Where is that dang medpack..." he grumbled.

Karie moaned again the pain only increased. "Please hurry Marcus, it hurts so bad." Tears formed at the corner of her eyes. She was really hurt and it was killing her.

Alex unstrapped himself from his seat and made his way to the main power box of the pod. He did some re-wiring and the lights came on. "There you go. Hold on Karie, everything's going to be alright."

Where do we go, friend?

To the bowl, mine.

The brown rocketed high into the air as his wings continued to thrash amongst the chill air. His eyes scanned the whereabouts of the bowl taking only a few seconds to directly pinpoint its location.

Talonth began steamlining himself, tucking his wings close towards his sides as he began diving downwards towards the rocky cliffs of the bowl. For a brown, he was extreamly swift upon his wings. Coming within several dragonlengths away, Talonth breeched upwards and backwinged as his back legs grasped the rocky surface below in means to steady his stance. Slowly falling upon all fours, the brown rumbled hesistantly as he looked up into the skies of Pern.

What is happening? Why does the sky burst into flame?

"I don't know but I'm sure we'll find out." C'llen replied, sliding off the enormous brown and onto the stony grounds of the bowl as they awaited directions and for others to arrive.

"Thanks, Alex," said Marcus, as he walked to the side and got the medpack. He opened the instruction booklet inside, and searched for how to mend broken bones. He walked over to where Karie was.

"Now this is going to hurt, Karie, but I need to splint your leg, and there's no painkillers in this pack," Marcus warned Karie, then he grabbed the broken leg and set the bone back into place, following the instructions in the book. Then, he took the splint kit in the medpack, and made a splint for her leg.

"There, how's that?"

((OOC: We're going to have to wait until everyone else who I let have a terran character makes one. Once they post, we can continue. But for now, we will have to wait. And post for our Pernese characters.))
