So, here is a thread where I want us to compile our ideas on eco-friendlyness. So here are a couple of mine:

1. Hybrid cars.
2. Wash at low temperatures.
3. Invest in solar panels, or better wind energy for your house.
4. Start composting.

Cool - Good suggestions Donny 3nodding

Some more ideas.

1) Walk or cycle for short journeys - use public transport (buses, trains, trams) when possible for longer journeys.

2) Sign up with an electricity provider that builds and sources from renewable energy projects eg. http://www.ecotricity.co.uk/

3) If you're going on holiday, consider going somewhere that doesn't involve flying as aviation is one of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gasses.
(you can take a pledge against flying here: http://www.airportpledge.org.uk/ )

4) Use energy saving lightbulbs in the house.

5) Turn off appliances (eg TV, music system) rather than leaving them on standby.

6) Unplug mobile phone chargers from the wall when you're not using them.

7) Join a organisation like Greenpeace or Friends of the Earth which campaigns on climate change issues. Their websites and magazines usually contain actions you can take like sending emails or postcards to lobby Governments and polluting companies.

http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/

8 ) recycle, and buy recycled products like toilet roll and paper.

9) Find out if their are any renewable energy schemes proposed near you and write to the local council/your MP/local newspapers in support.

10) Turn the heating down or off and wear an extra jumper instead.

I thought of something else - you can buy locally grown food rather than food that's been flown in from overseas. For example, living in England I buy English apples rather than ones grown in New Zealand.

It's even better if you get food that's been grown really locally by going to a farmers market or farm shop. It's totally ideal if you can get stuff that's both locally produced and organic.

It might interest you guys that, in the UK, appliances on standby use up the output of 3 power stations.

Also, I totally agree with you Badgerkin. Air miles are a large contributor to carbon emissions.

Also, you can call me John. I only use Donny in the main forums...

You're right. We need to be doing something about it now

Not flying is all very well in principle, but there are so many places in the world that we simply could not go to without flying as they are too far away. I went to Singapore last year to visit my brother, I could not have done that without air travel. But I think it is pointless when business people fly short distances like Manchester - London. I have family in Switzerland and go there often but always in the car. Plus it's also a lot cheaper to go that way rather than pay 4 airplane tickets.

Oh noes! I'm doing almost everything that I'm not suppose to if we don't want global warming! gonk I'm so selfish. T____T
And, how are WE suppose to spread the word? We're under 18 years old, play Gaia, apparently have no life, and not everyone have a computer. >_>

If you don't want to leave the computer you could email people or use messenger to spread the word. Also some environmental campaign groups have email action alerts you can sign up to. Email your MP, email a letter about climate change to your local paper...

On your note Donny. Mainly no.2.

If you wash with Persil at 30 degrees with most of the nation, you could save up enough energy to light up to 1000 villages!

I watch TV too mcuh!

... I believe that last statement to be true...

But what do they mean by 1000 villages? Do they mean tiny obscure hamlets in Wales or overgrown villages like the one's near me? It's very ambiguous.

I'm absolutely positive that I will get yelled at for this suggestion...

Support nuclear energy!

Recent developments allow nuclear waste to be minimalized, and they can be stored effectively until some solution is created to their destruction (which are being studied)
Nuclear energy is more effective than coal, gas, is cleaner to the air.

Just because of chernobyl, etc. this source is seen in a bad light.

"poor misinformed me" <-- right? Well it's an idea I have based on what I know...
