Do you agree or disagree that the FDA is doing enough to protect consumers from diseases and things that might actually be stopped back in the plants they are made and shipped from?
My personal opinion:: I don't think the FDA is doing enough to ensure our safety. With vegetables developing strains of e-coli through contaminated water, to hundreds of cases of bad meat being shipped out every year. If the government really cared about it's people and what they were consuming, they would have put in more officials, and put up more rules and regulations containing food safety and handling.

in a certian part of california they allow the veggies to be watered with "recycled" water.. which isnt good enough for us to drink so why would we want that on our food??? NO I think the FDA has gotten lazy and cuts too many corners

Honestly I believe that the government is keeping up with the times. However by that I mean they're only advancing at the rate disease is advancing...
If they were always behind (as I believe to be the case) they would remain inneffective in stopping disease since they started. However adding workers to the payroll would only increase the amount this program costs... more inspectors would help but really what they need is higher standards. Enforcing them isn't as large an issue as that...
additionally the federal defecit is large enough as is... consider making current employees more effective and efficient than highering more employees as a solution.
and if I may request, are there any articles on this topic you could link me to so I may become more educated in the matter?

If you want to read a book that helped Americans realize the bad condition of meat packing companies you should read "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, it is fictional characters, but the work places he described were real and everything. He got his information by penetrating the company's as a worker and experiencing and seeing the horrid things first hand.

But the FDA changed those regulations so I was looking for more recent information on the subject in order to understand your position currently 3nodding
and Thanks for the sources Sinabob 3nodding

The FDA is just a silly organiztion who is looking for the best way to keep people from being obease and or getting sick from a food related problem. They fail at that.

I honestly do believe that the FDA is not doing enough. With the brand new scare with pet food, I am honestly scared to death. I'm beginning to think if they're having trouble with the dog food, then what problems that they have with human food that they're not telling us about?? Also I don't think enough is being done with the new perscription drugs out there.
