Well, whaddya all think? Should I, your ever present guild leader Dragn99, write a story involving members of the Nintendo Chatterbox?
Ive been thinking of it for a while, but I dont know... I really dont get much free time so I may not write much...
I just realized, I havent explained much at all about this world now then have I? All right then, here we go!
The time setting is in the future, not a huge mutli-thousand year leap, but there are some pretty smart robots, and space travel is a pretty common thing (theres about eighteen different bars and night clubs on the moon, but whether or not those will take place later on is up to). While there are hovercars and such, most people still prefer to use wheeled vehicles, seeing as it doesnt use as much electricity (all vehicles run on electricity, no more fossil fuels) and are much more stable. Some mythical beasts do exist, but the most popular are the dragons, which are used for travel, competitions, and are companiable pets as well. One of the more common sports is the fights that take place in the arena. Most of the amature fights use only fists and feet, but more advanced classes move on to staves, swords, and many other types of weapons. Both Dragn and Raptor have made a name for themselves in the mediocre division, but many of their fans say they should go for the big times.
Now then, the two main characters: Dragn and Raptor. They both share a three bedroom apartment on the "fourteenth" floor of a high-rise apartment building. The elevator said it was the fourteenth floor, but it was actually the thirteenth, which was one of the reasons Dragn liked it, he enjoyed tempting luck to try and strike him down. Dragn usually spends his free time training with his sword, or reading up on old magic techniques that most people had forgotten about. Raptor spends his time either working out, training, or cruising around the city streets on his motorcycle at speeds most proffesional dare devils dont go for. Dragn has a green dragon named Miles, which is what he uses to get to places that are too far to go to on a moped (ie. anything outside the city).

Chapter 1
--Dragn rolled over sleepily, dazedly reaching out for the snooze button on his now blaring alarm. When nothing was there for him to hit, he looked up, his eyes still bleary from sleep. "Wha... who took my alarm clock?" Looking down he saw the cord going under his bed, where the sound was now coming from. "Tekirai, c'mon!" he pleaded, speaking to his new kitten, who had gotten into a habit of hiding things under the bed.
--Yanking on the cord, he pulled the alarm clock within easy reach, as well as Tekirai. Grumbling, he pressed the snooze button, then rolled back onto bed, closing his eyes gratefully. Suddenly, there was a pounding noise coming from his door.
--"Damnit! Whad'ya want!"
--"C'mon Dragn, get up. We're gonna be late for the tournament!" This was of course, Raptor, his roomate.
--"Nyea, no tournie, only sleep" Dragn muttered, covering his head with the pillow.
--Raptor stormed into the room. "C'mon man, I don't want to be late!" He ripped the blanket off of Dragn, who started shivering. "Jeebus! Its freezing out here! Gimme back my blankie" He tried to lunge, but Raptor dodged to the side, waving the blanket like a matadors cape as Dragn landed in a stack of laundry.
--"And there you have it, I have managed to get Dragn out of bed" Raptor said with a smirk and a laugh, running out of the room.
--A few minutes later, Dragn walked out of his room, doing up the last button on his favorite green shirt. "So then, when do we leave?"
--"In about twenty minutes" Raptor replied.
--"What? Then why'd you wake me up so early?" he asked, dumbfounded.
--"Dude, its almost ten! And it usually takes longer to get you out of bed. Now c'mon, whats for breakfast? Im starving!"
--Grumbling, Dragn got to work making some scrambled eggs and toast, his other cat, Jeng Kang, stalked his feet, hoping for some scraps to fall.
--After breakfast, Dragn and Raptor left the apartment building, heading off for the parking lot. As Dragn climbed on his moped, Raptor let out a little laugh, climbing on to his own motercycle. "Whats so funny?" he asked, glancing over at him.
--"Oh just your little dinky bike there" he said, laughing again. Dragn sighed, this was one of their regular conversations, and one of the main reasons he didnt like leaving at the same time as Raptor. "Listen, its fast enough for city streets, and its better on gas than anything else I can find. If I ever need to go to a different city, I can just ride Miles, now can we please go already? I thought you didn't want to be late?" With that, he started up the moped and drove off, knowing that Raptor would blast past him in a moment or two.
Chapter 2
--"I cant believe we both lost in the first round!"
--"No," Raptor said, "you lost, I got disqualified!"
--"Yeah well, thats what you get for kicking some one in the nuts with firecrackers strapped to your boots!" Dragn said, giving Raptor a sidelong glance from his seat.
--"C'mon, you know Ive been looking for a chance to try out my Kobu-Chiyaku move" he said with a sly grin.
--"Yeah, well thanks to that, theres an empty spot on the roster. You're opponent could'nt continue"
--"So why'd they kick me out if there was an empty spot?"
--"Because you broke the rules?" Dragn said, giving him a quizical look. "Shots below the belt are strickly forbidden."
--"Yeah.. I guess. So why did you lose? You're way too good a fighter."
--"Yeah well... I couldnt bring myself to hit my opponent..."
--"Why not? You've won you're fair share of tournaments in the past"
--"Yeah well... she was too cute" Dragn said sheepishly. This was his first mixed-gender tournament, and he was still unused to the idea of fighting a girl.
--"Holy crap kid! You threw the match because you wanted a date?!... didja get her number at least?"
--"What?" Dragn stared at him incrediously for a moment, then droped his head, "...no, she went in to the change room too quickly"
--"You're pathetic."
--"So anyways, who's fighting right now?" Dragn asked, trying to change the conversation.
--Raptor checked his roster sheet. "Looks like a couple of kids. Theres TwilightLink and someone named Maul the Hero... weird, says here that Mauls a neko"
--"What? There aren't any nekos for miles!" Dragn noted, grabbing the fighter's profile sheets he had in his bag. "Wow... looks like this guy came from a long ways off... but" Dragn took out another sheet "this TwilightLink kid has some pretty good expierence in tournaments. Looks like Maul's trip won't have been worth it" But before he could finish the sentance, the crowd gave a collective gasp, and they both looked to the fight, where Maul was laying on the crowd, and though they couldn't see too clearly from their seats, it looked like he had tears going down his face. "Jeez, what happend!"
--"Looks like the kid broke his arm!" Raptor said in shock. "Isn't breaking bones against the rules? Lemme see that!" With that, Raptor tore the rule book Dragn had been flipping through and found the page on injuries. "Mh... looks like if he can make it look like it wasn't intentional, then he'll be off scot free."
--"Yeah, but still, you kinda gotta feel sorry for that neko kid..." Dragn mentioned, absently rubbing at his arm.
--A few years back, he had broken his left arm during a smaller tournament. Apparntly he had injured his foot in the previous round, but tried to continue on despite the pain, but found himself unable to lift his foot due to the pain, and tried to block a powerful roundhouse kick with his arm. According to him, the paramedics where sure that it wasn't broken, but after a week or so without any sign of the swelling going down, they finally took him in to get x-rayed, revealing a rather large fracture.
--"I guess so, but Im actually kind of impressed that that kid managed to take down a neko" Raptor said, snapping Dragn back to the present.
--"Yeah... anyways, do we really need to stay and watch the rest of the tournament? Theres probably another fifetenn rounds after this one. And I need some munchies bad."
--"Ah fine, but I heard the champion from last year is here as well" Raptor said, getting out of his seat.
--"Competing?" Dragn asked absently as he walked towards the concession stand, taking out his wallet.
--"Nah, he just came here to watch the "noobs" as he calls them" he said, also talking out his wallet.
--"Who was last years winner anyways" Dragn asked, turning to look at him, then running right into some blue-haired guy. "Oh, sorry about that" he said, helping him up.
--"Uh, Dragn? Thats last years champion! Thats Meta Fish!" Raptor quickly helped him up, quietly mumbling an apology he didn't actually owe.
--"Yeah, well no harm done" Fish said casually, re-adjusting his mask. "Anyways, you know me, but who are you two?"
--"Well, Im Dragn, and this here's my roomie, Raptor." Dragn said, indicating himself, then pointing at Raptor.
--"Oh hey, Ive heard of you" Fish said, and Dragn thought he might be grinning, but couldn't really tell because of Fish's mask. "I hear you're quite the fighter in the little-leagues"
--Dragn frowned, "what?! Whad'ya mean little leagues? I've fought and won in tournaments bigger than this!"
--"True," Fish said, "they may have been bigger, but they were still basically amatures, and didn't you lose you're first fight here?"
--"I... well... Thats different all right!" Dragn shook his fist, emphasising his point. "Im just... not used to fighting girls."
--Fish laughed at this, and it only served to raise Dragn's usually low temper. "Listen kid, you'll never get anywhere in these tournaments if you let things like that get to you."
--"Hey, who you calling a kid? We've gotta be the same age. And so what if I don't get anywhere in tournaments? I bet I could still take you!"
--"Yeah, well whatever" Fish replied, turning and walking off, "if you think that, then call me when we meet in the semi-finals." As he said this, he dropped a small pamphlet on the ground, then turned a corner and dissapeared.
--"Well... that was odd." Raptor noted. "You're not usually one to lose your temper Dragn, especially not so easily."
--"Yeah, well what can I say? Somebody woke me up too early." He chuckled lightly as he picked up the pamphlet Fish had droped. It was an ad for another tournament, but the thing that caught his eye was the grand prize. "Two-hundred thousand gold!" Dragn's eyes were huge as he read this.
--"Woah no way!" Raptor looked over Dragn's shoulder, peering at the ad. "Looks like Fish was serious about this... though of course Im going to be the one in the semi-finals, not you" he said with a sly grin, wrapping his arms around Dragn, "ain't that right buddy?"
--"Not if I can help it" Dragn laughed, shaking him off. "Now c'mon, lets get our munchies.
--"Uh... too late, the concessions closed." Raptor said, pointing at the concession stand.
--"NOOOOOO! Why cruel fate! Why must you mock me so!"
Chapter 3
--"Hey Dragn?"
--"Yeah, Raptor, what is?" Dragn asked absently, still reading through one of the books on ancient magic he had found. He picked up most of them at a curiosity shop he liked to frequent, but this one was from a garage sale he had gone to a few years ago. He had only just today started reading it.
--"I've been reading over this flyer and well... it says here that entrys are by invitation only, and I don't think Fish's invite would count as an official one." he said idly, still reading over different parts of the flyer. Dragn looked up from his book. "Is that all?" he asked simply. "I already know how to get past that. It's not like he would have just given us access, he's trying to test us first by making sure we can get in to the thing."
--"Oh" he said. "Well then... how are we going to get in?"
--"You just leave that to me" Dragn replied calmly, turning back to his book.
--Later that night Miles descended softly onto a roof top. Dragn climbed quickly down his side then gave him a quick reassuring pat, saying he'd only be gone a few minutes. Going down through the top door, Dragn walked into the huge party that was going on there. There was always a party at this place. Working his way through the crowd, he came to an obscure door, where, for some reason, not that many people gathered. Most likely because of the lack of speakers and lights in this corner.
--Knocking firmly on the door a voice called out "Theres a giant enemy crab!"
--Sighing, Dragn said the next part of the password: "flip it on its back and attack its weak point."
--The voice quickly responded: "causing..."
--"Massive damage" Dragn finished, then quickly slipped through the open door before it closed on him. Walking into the room, he was still amazed at the sheer amount of computer moniters and wires that were strung out everywhere, like the lab of some mad scientist. "Love what you've done with the place Proffeser Tendo" he said idly.
--The man in the chair spun around. He was pretty pale, and his hair had prematurely grayed to the point where Dragn couldnt even tell what colour it was. "Hey Dragn! What brings you here?" he said cheerfully, steepling his fingers. "Wait, dont tell me, let me guess" he said, before Dragn could even open his mouth. "The tournament right? You need some 'official' invites for you and your roomie? Well, I believe you know the cost." Dragn shook his head, a coy grin on his face. "I'm not even going to ask how you know that, but yeah, thats basically it. And as for your payment..." he dropped a small bubble wrapped object on the desk beside him, which Tendo opened with glee, revealing one of the few remaining NES cartridges left on the earth.
--"All right, so tell me, which one is this? The labels missing on this one too."
--"First, the invites, then I tell you which one it is" Dragn said with a small laugh. He had learned a long time ago how to deal with this eccentric.
--"All right all right, you win" Tend said with a sigh. "Give me two days, and your invites will be ready, until then, I suggest you try and find some more of these things, because my prices double next time."
--"No they don't" Dragn replied simply, already leaving the room.
Chapter Four
--During the months leading up to the tournament, Dragn had managed to learn a few simple spells from the ancient books. "What possible use does that have in a fight?" Raptor asked again as Dragn held an orb of pure orange light over his hand.
--"Well, once Ive gotten this thing down, it'd be good for distracting opponents, especially if there not expecting it." He let himself disconnect from the flow of mana, allowing the orb to dissipate. "And, according to this book, with a simple alteration, it can also be a powerful force, capable of shoving even the largest of objects quite a distance."
--"Oh really? And then what? They just run at you again and beat you down" he sneered.
--"Not quite my friend. Says here that organics find it near impossible to move for quite some time after wards. And besides, in most fights, that'd be a ring out, automatic win for me."
--"Right, well I'll just stick with good ol' solid weapons" Raptor said, checking the fridge for something to drink. Grabbing a pop, he cracked it open. "So anyways, how much longer until the tournament finally starts?" Dragn sighed, "how many times are you going to ask me that? It starts in two weeks, on Friday. I hope you've been practicing while I wasn't looking. This stuff is way higher than any tournament we've ever been in before. And no exploding ninja moves this time!"
--Raptor laughed at this, remembering 'fond times.' "Don't worry about it, I've devoloped some perfectly good, 'explosion-free' moves, just for this occasion" he said with a grin, chugging the rest of his pop and belching loudly, then tossing the can into a pile they had growing by the front door.
--"We should really take those cans in one of these days" Dragn said idly, flipping through the pages in the ancient spell book until he found the one he was looking for.
--"Yeah, someday" Raptor agreed. "Anyways, Im going out for a ride, hold my calls." With that, he grabbed his helmet and coat and left, leaving the door open behind him.
--"You don't get any calls!" Dragn called after him, closing the door and going back to his book, where Jeng Kang decided to join him.
--Raptor weaved in and out of traffic on his motorcycle, breaking nearly five laws a minute as he sped down the crowded streets. Despite what Dragn thought, he had been training, he just didn't bother telling him. After a twenty minute ride, and six evaded cop cars, he pulled his bike behind some bushes, then turned towards the hidden path. He couldnt even remember how long ago it had been when he found this place, but it was where he learned his techniques, his ninja skills. He took a plain steel plated head band out from the inner pocket of his jacket and tyed it to his forehead, letting his hair fall over most of it.
--Walking into the hidden temple, he bowed respectfully to the man sitting in meditation at the back of the room.
--"Master Hanzo, I've come for more training" he said quietly, letting no emotions betray him.
--The man looked up, the magority of his face obscured by a mask. He said nothing as he stood and held himself in a defensive pose. Raptor merely nodded, adopting his own ready stance. This was the way their training had been ever since Dragn had gotten them the invites to the tournament. Whether or not Hanzo knew about the tournament was a mystery to Raptor, but he had learned never to question what Master Hittori Hanzo knew or did.
--After hours of merciless fighting, when Raptor was nearing passing out, Master Hanzo held up his hand, signiling that there lesson for today was over. Raptor bowed again and walked out of the room, never turning his back to him until he was a good ways down the path. He remained wary until he was back on his bike, heading back home.
Chapter Five
--The day of the tournament came way too quickly for Dragn's tastes. The few months they had seemed way too short when looking back. Luckily for him, one of his spells had enabled him to call on his spirit for help in battle, however, there was something odd about his. The book said that all spell-casters can call on either the light or dark side of their spirit, but he had found that both his sides could be called, though not at the same time. The first time he tried to call them both simultaneously he had nearly collapsed from a sudden rush of pure exaustion, and neither had been summoned. He hadn't tried it since then.
--Raptor, on the other hand, seemed more confidant than he had been for any tournament before. When asked why he'd just grin, saying "all in good time buddy, all in good time." All through this last week or two, Raptor was becoming more and more secretive about his whereabouts, but Dragn just shrugged it off, after all, Raptor always had been a bit odd. As Dragn continued with his practice of summoning and using his spirit, he decided that they seemed to have enough of a personality to deserve their own names. But what? What type of names do you give creatures born from your own spirit?
--"Of course! Japanese names" Dragn exlaimed, rushing to the computer.
--"What the... what are you blabbering about now?" Raptor asked, coming over to examine the computer screen.
--"Well, Ive decided to name my spirit aids," Dragn exlaimed, searching for a english to japanese translator, "and I figure the translation for 'total darknes' will be my dark sides name, and something to do with light or maybe even the sun for my light side."
--After a few minutes of searching, Dragn found the perfect names for them. "My dark side spirit will be known as 'Makura,' total darknes. And my light side will be 'Irihi,' the evening sun."
--"Why the evening sun?" Raptor asked, "why not the noon sun? Or even just 'the sun'?"
--"Because the translations for those words didn't sound like names" Dragn stated simply. "Now c'mon, we have to be at the complex in time so we can register for our room. Don't forget, it's first come first serve. This tournaments going to last for a while."
--"If we last that long" Raptor joked, cuffing Dragn on the arm.
--"All right, saddle up" Dragn said, pointing towards Miles.
--"Dude, Ive told you, Im not riding on your dragon, its... unatural."
--"Oh come on Raptor, just admit it, your afraid of heights" Dragn laughed as he climbed on to Miles' back, taking off as Raptor went to get his bike. He let out a small sigh. "Sorry Miles, looks like we'll have to fly a bit slower than planned." The dragon let out a soft moan, a small tendril of smoke escaping from his nostrils. "Yeah yeah, I know, but its not like we can force him to ride you."
--After a few hours of riding, Miles landed, crouching low so that Dragn could slide off easily. With a pat and a nod from Dragn, Miles took off, led by an attendant of the hotel to the dragon pen. Walking into the lobby, Dragn was a bit suprised to see Raptor sitting in a chair, reading one of the outdated magazines. "What took you so long?" he asked without even looking up.
--"How... you know what, never mind. Why arent you in the room?"
--"Because its reserved under your name, and they wont let me sign for it" Raptor replied, putting the magazine down and standing up. "Ive been waiting for about twenty minutes now, and some people have started looking at me funny."
--"Yeah, well, Ive been telling you for a while now that you need a haircut." Dragn laughed and went up to the desk, checking in and getting his room key.
--After a long elavator ride, made interesting by Dragn singing along with the wordless elavator music, accomponied by odd glances from nearly everyone else in the tiny box, they came on to their floor. Walking in to their room, Dragn looked around in awe, "This is better than our apartment!" he exlaimed.
--"Yeah, but probably twenty times the cost per month" Raptor said. "If not for the whole 'all-expenses-paid' thing for the fighters, we'd end up staying in some youth hostel or something."
--Dragn shuddered at this, "I hate the youth."
--"But... you are youth"
--"You shush, you shush right now."
Chapter Six
--"C'mon Dragn! Wake up, we're gonna be late!" Raptor yelled, pounding on the door to Dragn's room.
--"What are you talking about?"
--Raptor whirled around in shock. There was Dragn at the table, calmly eating a donut while sipping from his mug of coffee. "I thought you were still asleep..." he said numbly. "You know, I think this might be the first time you've ever woken up before me."
--"Yeah, well don't get too used to" Dragn said idly, taking another sip of his coffee, "we can't afford this good of coffee at home."
--"So how does this tournament work anyways?" Raptor asked during the elavator ride to the bottom floor.
--"Well, all fights during a round are fought at the same time, so the fighters cant watch each other and find out about weaknesses. And, each field has its own randomly devoloped map. Its the latest in holographic technology, solid objects from nothing! Of course, it costs way too much to power to be useful for normal homes for people."
--"So... whats the roster like anyways?"
--"Well, it seems Fish is the opposite side of the sheet from me, and we're both on completly different ends of the side we're on... Dude, that means that if we both win all our fights, we'll meet each other in the semi-finals! I bet Fish set this up, just so he knows we wouldn't hold back against each other." Dragn said, feeling a bit perturbed at this.
--"Wait... you would've held back against me?" Raptor asked in a mock shocked voice.
--"Well, actually, I thought you'd just take a fall and let me win, seeing as I was the one Fish 'invited' to this tournament. I only brought you along cause your my buddy..." Dragn said awkwardly.
--Before Raptor could reply, they were on the shuttle that was taking them to the tournament building, and the gaurds were initiating a strict 'no-talking' policy, seeing as many of the others fighters were already there.
--After getting off the shuttle, Dragn and Raptor, as well as many of the other fighters, looked up in awe at the sheer size of the tournament complex. Not only was it huge beyond comparison, but there were five of them! Their guard/guide explained that the size was neccessary for some of the simulated enviroments that went in them, and then he split them up into their respective groups, pairing each person up with the one they were fighting and leading them off to the building they would be fighting in.
--Dragn had been paired up with a man in a red shirt, and he wore bracers on his legs. He assumed that he probably used kicks as his primary attacks, but still wasnt sure. His brown hair went a bit past his eyes, covering one of them. He had noticed Dragn looking at him and smiled, extending his hand. "Hey there, Im Allwing. Looks like we'll be fighting soon doesnt it?"
--Dragn looked at his for a moment more, then grinned and shook his hand. "Yeah, looks like it. Im Dragn by the way." He refrained from saying too much about himself or his techniques as they made small talk on their way into the building, Once inside, they took their sides on opposite ends of the battle field. Dragn looked around, still in awe. The whole field was near a full two square kilometers. Did they really need much space. Looking around, he noticed that there werent any crowds, but his suspicions died away as he saw ten or so floating orbs enter the arena, remote cameras. The announcer took place in front of one of the camers, as another camera turned towards Dragn. As the announcer introduced himself, Allwing, and Dragn, he noted a little light turn on the camera when his name was called. He tried to smile, but the light went out too quickly. 'Great, so much for a fanbase' he thought glumly.
--Then, the whole stage began to shake and rumble, as the holo-projectors began to create the enviroment for the match. When it was all over, Dragn found himself in the the middle of what appeared to be a run-down back alley. He heard the announcer, who's voice now came over the speakers, "Well folks, looks like the scene for this match is 'abandoned suburbia. Lets get it on!"
--The light on the camera in front of Dragn flashed back on, and grinning, he made a quick wave, then went at a quick jog towards the middle of the city, glancing around for anything he could use for his advantage. After twenty minutes of walking around, the announcers voice again came over the speakers. "Looks like the contestants are both feeling a little lost. Well, now its time to make things a bit more interesting for you, the viewers!" Just then, any light that was to be found went out, leaving Dragn in near total darkness.
--He shuffled slowly over to one side, feeling out for the building he knew was near, then climbed in through a window he found, then called on Irihi. "A little light if you would please" he said to the spirit. It broke into two miniature versions of a fairy, both of which gave off a clear white light. He turned to the left one. "Scout for Allwing, tell me where he is when you find him. And dont be seen." With that, the fairy's light winked out, and he could just see it as it flew out of the building, guided by its own sight. After a few minutes, he recieved an update via the fairy still with him. Letting himself seperate from his body, he saw through the eyes of the scouting fairy, and saw Allwing, who had apparantly thought to bring a flashlight. As his second sight zoomed out, he made a note of the route he had to take, then stood up and left the building he was in.
--Once he saw the shadows from Allwings' flashlight, he took Irihi back, no longer needing it. Glancing around in the now near-total darkness, he noticed the fire-escape on the side of the building. Quickly he climbed up to the first level and crouched low, waiting. As Allwing came around the corner, Dragn called on Makura, shielding himself in total darkness, so that as the beam of light from Allwings flashlight passed over him, nothing was visible.
--Then, just as Allwing turned his back, Dragn lept as silently as possible from his hiding area, then landed a powerful kick to the back of Allwings head. Or at least, it should have landed. Allwing had managed to drop and roll at the exact moment necessary, getting himself into standing position faster than the eye could watch. Dragn managed to flip back onto his feet, taking his katana from its scabbard on his belt as he did. They both lunged forward, Dragn with sword held in front in a mid level defensize position.
--Suddenly Allwing lept into the air, then came down faster than Dragn expected, aiming a powerful flying roundhouse to Dragn's midsection. He barely managed to duck out of the way, but as he did he stuck his feet up, grabbing Allwings' leg between his own, then twisted, throwing him off into one of the buildings, cracking the side of it. Getting back up, he ran forward and stuck the edge of his katana against his throat while he was still dazed. Dragn stood off to one side, not leaving himself open for a suprise attack, and Allwing signalled defeat. 'Better to forfeit than to die' he thought to himself as the suburbian area dissolved around them and Dragn seathed his sword, waving to the cameras with a huge grin plastered on his face.
Chapter Seven
--Raptor got on the shuttle, on his way to round two. His fight yesterday had been against a pushover, he couldnt even remember the other guys name. But still he didn't let himself get cocky, that was a surefire way to lose focus and lose.
--His opponent today was a young man named Jace, though he preffered to be called VK in the ring. He was lean, dressed in black, and had light brown, mid length hair. As they took their respective sides on the arena, Raptor redied himself for the fight. There was no way to know what this guy had up his sleeve.
--The announcer called out their names, with the orbiting cameras taking quick shots of them, and then the projecters built the enviroment. The walls all around them became much thicker and more random, and they curved up towards the top in a dome like fasion. 'A cave?' Raptor thought to himself. Then suddenly most of the floor around him melted, becoming bubbling red magma, and then the heat nearly caused him to lose his balance from its suddeness. It was incredible! They were fighting inside what was probably a live volcano! Well, not a real volcano, but Raptor didn't want to chance falling into the magma anyways.
--Stepping lightly on the unstable foot holds that hadn't melted, Raptor made his way across the stage. There were larger areas that seemed more sturdy, but he passed those up. The less advantages he gave Jace the better. As he made his way further across the uneven turrain, the hotter it got, until sweat was pooling down his face. Finally he heard something. Someone ahead was moving towards him.
--Stepping back behind a ledge, he performed some complex hand signs, which created two identical clones of himself. He waved one of them back, then sent the other one forward with a wave of his hand. The clone went around the corner towards Jace. "Gotcha!" was all that Raptor heard of Jace, but it was followed shortly after by the sounds of a quick scuffle, interrupted by a large explosion, accomponied by Jace's cry of suprise and pain. "He obviously hadn't been expecting that" Raptor thought to himself with a cruel grin.
--Raptor sprung around the corner, accomponied by the Kamakaze clone, and was stopped dead in his tracks. He looked around wildly, trying to see what had stopped him, when he saw Jace standing there, his cloths burnt and his left eyebrow missing, but smiling victoriously. "Well Raptor, looks like your little trick caught me, but it seems you are now helpless doesnt it?" he asked sarcastically with a small laugh.
--"What the hell is this?" Raptor asked, trying to shake himself free, and noticed that his clone was similarily entrapped.
--Jace walked up to him, holding his hand aloft. In it was a small blue sphere. "A little portable spell. It allows me to hold an object still by using my mana to tie you to the air itself" he explained. Then without warning, he reared back and slammed his fist into Raptor's stomach, who grimiced in pain. Again and again his fist connected, hitting vitals, pressure points, and anything else that was unprotected.
--Raptor grimiced as the punches hit. Then, during a small reprieve from the pain, he glanced over to the kamakaze clone and whispered one word: "joukeiki." Suddenly a blinding flash light up the inside of the volcano, blinding both him and Jace. The following burst of energy and flames burned them both, and nocked the sphere away from Jace, sending it rolling into the magma. Instantly the spell holding him disapeared, and Raptor stood over his oponent.
--"Tail Whip Kick" he yelled, swingin his leg towards Jace. As his leg arced through the air, flames envoloped his foot, and when it connected, VK flew back into one of the colums, then landed on his face with a thud. Walking calmly over to the struggling form of Jace, Raptor dug his knuckle into a nerve on the back of his neck, and walked away as Jace's body went limp, temporarily paralyzed.
--Waving to the cameras as the field reverted to it's original shape, Raptor turned to the camera, gave it a wink, and said "See ya" before walking off.

Chapter Eight
Dragn dragged himself out of his bed, dreading todays match. He had twisted his ankle a few days ago, trying to dodge a strike from that psycho b***h. It had been bugging him ever since, but today seemed especially bad, especially after all the running he had had to do to avoid Draken's attacks yesterday. "Damn forest terrain" he muttered as he limped to the coffee pot, which was just now filling up. Praise the man who devoloped the timer for the coffee pot.
Drinking from a styrofoam cup (he was out of clean mugs) Dragn wen't over what limitations his ankle would provide him. He wouldn't be able to do any close combat fighting, that was for sure. And he wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of relying on his imperfected and desparingly short spell list. Perhaps he'd be able to use one of his spirits to heal him? He called Irihi and attempted to make it cast a heal or something on his ankle, but to no succes. "Damnit."
BEEP! "Damnit!" The shuttle was here for him. Strapping on his katana, he limped his way to the elevator and rode silently down to the bottom floor, leaning on the wall for support. Hopping into the shuttle, the driver looked back at him with concern. "Hey, you okay Dragn?" Dragn grinned, "Sure thing, just get me to the arena please." "All right kid, just don't do anything reckless. My kids are rooting for you, and I'd hate to see you lose at this stage of the competition."
Upon reaching the arena, Dragn waved to the driver, and hobbled slowly in through the large doors. Across the ring his oponent was waiting not-so-patiently for him. Wait... was that
Dragn? Oh gods, where they this close to the end already? Raptor grinned to himself. It seemed his friend was limping a bit. Perhaps a misshap in yesterdays match? No matter, any advantage was an advantage worth pursuing. He tapped his foot, waiting for the announcer to get the introductions over with and show them what field they'd be playing in.
Oh god oh god oh god. This was not good. Raptor was way too much of an up-close fighter for Dragn to deal with on his bum ankle. The holo-projectors then kicked in, humming as they warmed up. Suddenly he found himself in... what was this?
He seemed to be floating, yet despite the vast darkness below him, he was obviously on solid ground. Looking around, he could make out distinct shapes glowing in the distance. Were they in space? No, there were no stars or planets. And why did that area look odd? Walking cautiosly forward, Dragn reached out to the odd area, and met resistance! So, he couldn't tell where the floor was, and oddly disturbing areas meant solid objects in front of him... this was promising to become interesting.
Raptor was having similar trouble adjusting to this enviroment. "What the hell is this stuff?" He tried casting a small fire jutsu to light it up, but the stuff seemed to not register to the light, making it practically impossible to see. He pulled out his own katana and held it out in front of him, walking slowly forward. Anytime the blade was bumped, he'd carfully climb either over, under, or go around the obstacle. As such, he made his way slowly but safely, as well as very quietly, towards the other end of the field.
On the other side, Dragn was having less success. His ankle was paining him more than ever now, and he was basically just hopping forwards until he hit the next nearly invisible obstacle, then just slumped down onto it for a few minutes to rest. Wait... what was that? Ducking down, he saw a familiar pile of red hair working it's way over to him from behind what must be another of the obstacles. He grinned. How lucky was this? He hadn't been spotted!
Despite his prior doubts of his magical powers, he knew his best chance was to hit Raptor hard while he wasn't expecting it. He prepared the mage's favorite, a classic fireball! Without a second doubt, he stood up and fired. At nothing. What the... where was "Oh s**t!" Dragn whirled to the left, drawing his katana into a high rise block as he did. The result clang of Raptor's blade jarred his teeth. "Hey Raptor, guess I shouldn't be suprised to see you here eh?"
Raptor laughed in responce, then whirled his blade towards Dragn's midsection, which was already blocked by his blade. "Not really, you've seen me fight before!" Then it was his turn to block as Dragn's katana whistled throught the air towards his skull.
And so they went, exchanging blows while Dragn kept his weight off of his bad ankle as much as possible when Raptor struck at his good ankle. Knowing not to trust his weight to his bad ankle, Dragn did the only thing he could, he slipped. His entire body went over the blade, and he managed to slice Raptor on his side before landing heavily on his back. "Ow..."
Raptor stood over him, a fire raging in his eyes, as he raised his blade... then was blinded by a ray of light from Irihi. Rolling to hide behind one of the obstacles, Dragn thanked his lucky stars that that had worked. But his ankle was killing him now. He only had a matter of time though until Raptor found him. Absorbing Irihi back into himself, he called out Makura. He had managed to meld him with his arm before, could the same be done for his legs? Nothing to lose now.
As Makura's form dispersed and began to concentrate around his leg, Dragn felt an odd tingle. For one thing, the pain was gone, for another, it felt freaking awesome! His leg felt stronger than it had in his entire life! Laughing maniacally, he sprang from behind the rock, doing a double backflip for show, and landed right behind Raptor, striking at his back with a closed fist before he could even react.
Stumbling from the hit, Raptor whirled around, swinging his sword two handed, only to see Dragn backflip out of the way. Then he threw himself to the ground, barely dodging a fireball, but managed to perform a jutsu before landing. Suddenly there were three Raptors picking themselves off the ground, and they all had a deadly looking katana in their hands. "Oh great, just my luck" Dragn muttered, backing away slowly.
