I'm sure I'll be flamed for this one, but I actually like Stephen King's work. I also enjoy a little H.P. Lovecraft now and then, but when it comes to horror writers, I'm really not sure what's out there.

Anybody know of any good horror authors? I could always use a good scare from a new source.

I'm quite fond of Koontz's stuff, and I'm a bit of an Anne Rice fan and her Vampire Chronicles as well, though her stories get a little....."gay" sometimes, so they're not for everyone. Still, Lestat's self-proclaimed title of "James Bond of Vampires" is pretty fitting, what with all the random adventures he keeps going on.

I love Koontz's works! I've only read about 6 or 7 of his books, but I loved them all! I've never read anything by Stephen King, but I've wanted to. Umm, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child have got some pretty good books as well...I think they count as horror novels.

Black House is a nice collaberation between King and Peter Straub, though it's a sequal so you might want to read The Talisman first.

I couldn't get through the Talisman...but Black house was pretty good. When the blind dude met up with the old guy, and ...well... it was pretty gruesome.

I wonder how writing a book with someone else works, exactly...does one of them write and they both come up with the story, or is it a trade-off?

Either way, those two are pretty good at the horror thing. I'll have to pick up a Straub book sometime.

Has anyone read the Zombie Survival Guide? I heard that was a good book, but I haven't read it yet.

I guess I'll have to say Mr. King. I think I've read more of his stuff than any of the other ones. 3nodding

Although I've only read about 4 or 5 of his books sweatdrop

I love H. P. Lovecraft, Stephen King and Patrick Sénécal who is a french-canadian author. I don't know if they translated his work in English but he's popular here. The made a movie based on one of his book and they plan to make two more.

What movie was that? (just a wild guess here) was it NIGHTWATCH?

I loved that movie. OOH! OOH! A new topic for the movie thread!
