This area will give some history on, and explain certain, magical laws within the world of Socat Stories.

Part 1.

Taken from the textbooks of modern sorcery institutes.

“…All mages must use an artifact or some other form of intermediary object while casting spells for risk of death. The alteration of the spiritual energy composition required to cast all spells would rip the physical body apart from the inside should they be cast without a medium.

It is recorded that there where mages with such control over their spiritual energy and such skill in the art that they were able to cast many spells without need for a medium. However, according to records all of these mages died at a somewhat young age. Overtime the toll is still levied upon the body. These skills have never been taught to mages and use of them has not been recorded for over 500 years…”

The job of the partner is to protect the mage and allow the mage the time required to cast their spells by keeping enemies at bay. Using various spells the mage can enhance the power of the partner by sharing their spiritual energy, allowing even an inexperienced fighter the ability to stand against powerful enemies for at least a short period of time…

…To enter a partner pact one must first form the ritual circle on the ground. Both participants of the contract must be within the ritual circle, and the contract spell must be cast, this is often done by a third party though it is not required. A vow of some kind between the parties must then be completed; often a handshake is enough, though many other means are acceptable…

...Partnership contracts are all but required for many dangerous spells, should a mage attempt to cast an arcane spell and have it fail or be reflected in anyway, the excessive amount of spiritual energy used to cast the spell could backfire and possibly destroy the mage’s body in it’s entirety.

With the bond of a partnership contract the spell’s energy will be diverted between the parties and work as a buffer to lessen the damage to both to a minimum. As such arcane spells are not to be attempted until both parties have reached an understanding and gained experience with the abilities a partnership contract endows…”
