I always wanted to be careful with my heart.
One person stole it from me,
fixed it and
loved it in its imperfections.
They let it fall at my feet to shatter once more.

I always wished for true love to sweep me off my feet.
It did, and it left me there,
crying in shame,
soaking in self-pity and loathing.
They dropped me like a hot potato.

I always was wary of people who asked for my love.
But I always gave it away,
taking a chance,
hoping that somone would fix it.
They let me believe I was special to them.

I always wore myself out by loving too hard and long.
Never again did I plan to
give myself so fully,
love someone with all I was.
They didn't prepare me for you at all.
