Well wearing all black doen't mean you're grunge either. I could see how they thought you were a scenester. (Becuase everyone knows Emo's dead... Except for Radiohead.)
But yeah, to me wearing grunge is about picking off the clothes from your floor and putting them on again. Or reaching blindly into your dresser for clothes.

I've never been called emo...lol...i tend to wear a lot of band t-shirts though. and i own some plaid shirts. xp

Plaid and jeans I believe is the grunge look. Ripped jeans, with plaid shirts and if you are really into it, a wooly green jumper ^^
Lith, you look more metal then grunge to me (In real life I mean)

Lith, you look more metal then grunge to me (In real life I mean) Yeh, maybe...i have some metal chothing aswell...i can make my jacket look metal razz . I don't have long enough hair for either look though...

I can make red plaid, blue jeans, and a leather jacket look cool.
And that is what grunge is.
(Although technically, it's about staying warm. I guess that gives those of us in colder climates an advantage.)

I only own four shirts, and two pairs of jeans... A Kurt Cobain shirt, Tool shirt, Aerosmith shirt, and a black plaid shirt... And both pairs of jeans are ripped...
And I get called emo. Which is quite strange. I've never even heard emo music(I mean real emo music, not the shitty pop-punk crap they play today), and I don't look anything close to scene.
Oh. I do have a few oversized shirts here or there(I'm wearing one now... it's like... something my dad would wear... It goes halfway down my thighs).
Lol, I've been called a hippie too. I wear jandals(they're the only shoes I own), and have long straight hair, so, you know... I probably do look like a grunge hippie!

Doc what's-its? I'm not all that big on shoes. When it comes to footwear, it isn't really a big deal with grunge.
