I thought it would be nice to go ahead and start a discussion about the latest books in this part of the forum. Here is the first post to get everyone started :3!

Most of the books I read are fantasy, sometimes history, and realistic fiction. I am currrently reading Inkspell a rather lengthy book from Germany. Anyone else read it or heard of any other good books? biggrin

I recently finished reading Inkspell, it was such a good book! I presume that you have already read its prequel, Inkheart; but the same author also has two other books: Dragon Rider and The Thief Lord, both worth the read =)

Some of my other favourite books are A Great and Terrible Beauty and its sequel Rebel Angels, both by Libba Bray. She is supposedly writing it as a trilogy; with the next book coming out next summer...I really hope so!

The Bartimaeus Trilogy (The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye, and Ptolemy's Gate) by Jonathan Stroud was also good.

The above five are probably the first to pop into my head when asked what my favourite books are, after that I have to think for a minute about other books I’ve liked.
...I read a lot; it’s hard to pick just a few favourites! Heh =)

My favorite books at the moment run along the sci-fi vein. I like all books by John Scalzi, The Androids Dream, The Ghost Brigades and Old Man's War. I alos read Orphanage and Orphan's Destiny by Robert Buettner (I'm not sure I spelled that right...). I did read the Bartimaeus Trilogy. Fantastic books, those. I've read a few westerns by Ralph Compton. Those were pretty good and worth reading.

I love fiction, especially historical fiction. (The English AP student in me also adores stuff you can analyse; books rife with symbolism and subtle foreshadowing). My favorite author of all-time is Neil Gaiman - I highly reccomend his "American Gods" and "Anansi Boys". Those two are especially good if you have even a passing interest in mythologies. (Also, if you like graphic novels, Mr.Gaiman is famous for his "Sandman" series - SO GOOD!).
Also, I enjoy the occasional humourous fiction - especially Terry Pratchett (and his Discworld series!). So one of my favorite books of all-time is go written with Mr.Gaiman AND Mr.Pratchett - "Good Omens". It's a comedy about the apocalypse, but... Wow! What a colaberation! XD

I'm actually rather fond of Terry Goodkind's books. They've got some great themes to them.

I hate fiction. I don't mind writing it, but only for English assignments... I prefer books on wildlife and biographies of scientists and zoologists. Some of my favorite books are Born Free (somehow forgot the author's name), The Devil's Teeth (still reading it. It's by Susan Casey), and Never Cry Wolf (Farley Mowat).

And I just realized I'm the only person here who doesn't like fiction...

Yup. Fiction is very popular. I like fiction the most but every once in a while I'll read a good book about science. I'm currently reading "The Blind Watchmaker" by Richard Dawkins.

O_O a great and Terrible beauty is REALLY good...I read it about a year ago and then found rebel angels a few months ago....I didn't know she was writing a third one though...that's awesome.....Thief Lord was also a good book.

as for MY favorite books...ummm anything by T.A Barron and anything by Robert Cormier is good.....

T.A Barron wrote a series of seven books called 'the lost years of Merlin' they're REALLY good....it made me sad how it ended though....then he wrote a few other books....one of which has nothing to do with Merlin and then the other two don't really have Merlin IN them but they talk about him a lot.....he wrote a lot more than three books outside the 'lost years' series but I live in a small town..hence a small Library -_-
