This is actually inspired by a question that was on my voting ballot last week.

Should marijuana be legalized?

It could severely drop the amount of incarcerated people in the United States, could bring in a shitload of cash via taxing for the country, and isnt nearly as bad for you as something like smoking and drinking (which are both legal at an age.)

Discuss.

I think that people should make decisions for themselves.

If they want to trash their lives and screw their lives, families' and friends, so be it.

But if it's going to turn them into crazy murderers, then that might be a problem

Its already a personal choice, but bearing with it a criminal offense.

My question is not should it be done, for Im not a smoker myself. I dont like drugs. Drugs are not my cup of tea if you will. But my question is, should it be legal. A person can walk down the street and smoke a joint and be arrested and incarcerated for it. That should not happen IMO. Let the pot-head smoke. Itll happen more if you dissallow it than if you allow it.

Look at Europe and alcohol. They allow it once youre born. Theres almost no drunk driving deaths. Almost no drunk anything there, because its not illegal, therefore its not as appealing as something that is illegal.

you do have a point and i totally agree with you... i think it should be legalized so that there will be less problems in today's society because people do things that are daring and that is what gives people an edge

Well, i think that that logic can be disproved easily! I'll use a gum in school example. In middle school, i was not allowed to chew gum in class. I didn't chew gum because i would most likly get caught and get sent to detention. Now in high school, gum is fine! chew it whenever! now i bring packs of gum to school to chew because i can do it without getting in trouble!

now, if a law were to be passed where you could do pot whenever would increase the amount of people on pot because they can now do it without getting in trouble with the law! of course marajana should not be leagalized! it is just going to oppose what your parents and all those comercials taught you! of course it shouldn't!

And not nearly as bad for you? yes, cigarretes cause lung cancer but they do not do something that pot does, destroy brain cells! (pot also gives you lung cancer!) it ruins your life forever because you will never be able to hink the same again. sure, maybe once wont kill you but if a law is passed to make pot illegal than it wont just be once, it could be every day! that making workers, well, stupider anddo you want a retarded acountant doing your taxes? of course you dont! saying it shoul be legalized is just ludicrous

But things that could be considered legal outside of school are not necessarily legal in school. Drinking alcohol and smoking is not permitted on public-school grounds. Marijuana wouldnt be either. Simple limit such as the ones we have today for already legal things would still be in place, and enforced a bit more with the legalization of another thing added.

Drinking, which is legal at a certain age, kills about 5X the amount of braincells that marijuana kills. That is almost as common as cigarettes, which cause lung cancer at a much larger rate than marijuana.

How many people do you all know that smoke pot? I can guarantee that each of you at least knows 5, and almost everyone you know (if youre at the age of highschoolers) will have had a drink. That already surpasses the number of people that smoke pot. Things that are more harmful are already legal at a certain age, so why not allow something that can be used as a beneficial drug in cases be legal?

Not a lot of people where you live or that you know? Cause there are three living directly across the street from me. And I know a shitload more than just them. I could name about 40 people in my immediate area that I actually know smoke and Ive seen smoke pot. Its funny. I never touch the s**t though.

it's always been a stupid debate whether marijuana should be legalized or not. no, it shouldn't, for obvious reasons. like some people said above, it screws you up, it's not healthy, it causes trouble, and many more endless reasons. if it's really making all these hippies and potheads angry, then they can go somewhere where it's legal. 3nodding

So does drinking and smoking cigarettes. We tried banning those, and look what happened. Underground s**t up the a** until it was legalized again. If we dont even give something the chance to be legal, you promote illegal behavior.

true, but sadly, cigarettes and alcohol bring in a lot of money for the US. i wish we could get it other ways, and i hate smoking and drunks, but that's just the way things are.
