WELCOME AND LINKS

Hello, and congrats on your new dragon! 3nodding This is the general RP information thread, which has been endorsed by Shaoli! So we're official! I'm assuming that you have read the main FD thread before you recieved your dragon, or at least since you've gotten it. Please note that you do NOT have to RP your fairy dragon! But we'd love to see you around!

We are currently trying to switch over to a location-based RP system. There are many location RP threads in the guild, and we are working on a thread to organize them all. Location-based RPing is also available in lair threads, for the dragons that have them. Casual RPing can be done in the main thread, including RPing your dragon with your owner. Shaoli is awesome about making great RP events for us, and the RPing for those events are done in special threads.

GENERAL RP GUIDELINES
Adapted from Shaoli's original instructions in the Back to Nature thread

-There's a loose plot to work off, and I'd like you to adhere to it as much as possible. It's not a difficult plot to align your RPing with. Refer to the second post for story guidelines.

- Powerplay, where one RPer takes control of, or even assumes the disposition or reaction of another RPer's character, is unacceptable. Do not presume that you may dictate what another player wishes to do with his/her character in any way, shape or form. You may interpret an action that has already taken place, but that will only be from the point of view of your own character.

- Proper spelling, grammar and paragraphing would help make your post a lot more comprehensible. Do make your best effort.

And that's about it. The following aren't strict requirements to participate, but you might find things turning out a lot less hollow and immaterial if you tried to follow them.

- RPing in written story mode, rather than separating action and speech ( asterisks and double colons, etc), will help other RPers to better decide how they would interact with your character. Posting "*walks around*" and "::looks around::" gives other players absolutely nothing to work of off, and would likely result in your post being ignored.

- While RPing, out of character commentary or conversation may be carried out in ((double parenthesis)). Any other method of distinguishing RP from usual conversation is acceptable, I'm just the most comfortable with this method.

- While it is definitely not necessary, it may help the others you are RPing with if you have your dragon's picture or name in your sig.

STORY INFORMATION: then
Also adapted from Shaoli's information in the Back to Nature thread

The fairy dragons have just arrived on an island they have yet to name. How they got there and where they came from is a gaping hole in their memories, as is all that might have taken place before that point. They know only their language, who they are, and who the dragons on the island with them are. There might have been other dragons, but no one seems to recall who those are.

This tiny piece of rich land is now their home, and all they may possess lies in their future, because there is nothing left of the past. Sunday alone remembers, but right now, she's not telling.

Those who have RPed together before may include those events as vague memories, but there must strictly be no recollection of any particular place in which those memories happened. Your dragons do not regain any memory during the course of the game, either. That backstory will be revealed in a separate event. Please adhere to this. If semi-structured roleplay isn't quite your thing, there's a freeform RP thread that you can participate in instead.

---

Standing on a ledge facing the open sea, the breeze which swept in from the vast spread of blue stung cool and sharp to an unaccustomed nose. It fell in salty streaks across Sunday's sleep-warmed, pacified senses, and she creaked open pale eyes to view the sun-drenched scene.

The distant water was a dazzling strip which lay beyond a lush tropical jungle and a flawless white beach. All of it was clean and new, and although what the gold fairy dragon saw stung her with its emptiness of all things familiar, she thought it was just as well it be that way. The others remembered nothing of their long journey, and , more importantly, remembered nothing of the time before embarking on that journey.

And they would not know that she did remember. Not yet.

There came sounds from within the lair, as several of them stirred from their magically-induced slumber. Sunday turned, her form a fluid gossamer yellow, and paced expectantly down the shadowed tunnel, toward the glimmer of firelight around which the others slept.

STORY INFORMATION: now
Pulled together by shim, with sections adapted from Shaoli

The fairy dragons have survived their first summer on the island they've named Orchestra. The rocky lair has grown much bigger, as individual dragons have dug out their own personal rooms. While the technology level of the dragons hasn't risen much over the summer, that doesn't mean that they haven't had time to discover many interesting things!

KWEET: Natives to the tiny circular island of Orchestra, the Kweet are a manner of reptillian bird, stuck in an evolutionary transition between feathers and scales. Their eggs are the approximate size of golf balls, and they grow to be as large as two feet in length.

Warm-blooded, omnivorous, existing in a myriad of different colours and plumage, the Kweet's most striking characteristic isn't their appearance. Kweet can sing, and in a group, they're capable of harmonizing their voices. (for more information, please see the Kweet thread.)

The Kweet have developed a parasitic life on the fairy dragons, who have adopted them as a sort of pet. Many personal lairs include Kweet beds.

RELICS: Relics are "relics" of another life. They were discovered by Kismet while he was digging one day, and since then, dozens have been pulled from the ground. Some of the more famous relics include Kismet's float ((a bathtub)) and Reet's Dead Seamonster ((a set of jumper cables for jumpstarting a car's dead battery)). Some dragons have taken digging for relics as their main occupation (like Taranis), while others do it occationally for fun and profit (like Calliope, Kismet, Reet, and Flame, among others).

--------

The dragons have been unsettled by a gradual change in Sunday, however, who has been growing even more worried and morose in the recent weeks. Could their past be revealed soon? eek

EXTRA HELPFUL INFORMATION
Adapted from Shaoli

Fairy Dragon sizes

Sunday, as a gold, is the largest dragon, but how much bigger is she, actually? She's only slightly more heavyset, broader shoulders than a female would normally have. For now, she stands at 3'6", whereas the largest normal dragon, which might be Taranis (a black), is around 3'3".

No FD gets bigger than 3'8", though. Pir and Ivorn (both whites) are about the same height, 2'9", not counting their wings and tails.

As for approximate weight...

Sunday - 40lbs
Taranis - 36lbs
Kismet - 32lbs
Pir - 27lbs

Browns and blacks tend to be slightly bigger and stronger. Greens and blues are more toward the smaller end, and the reds and purples are in the middle. They cross over, and you see huge blue dragons, too, but the general tendency is as such.

Fairy Dragon physical appearance
Fairy Dragons have a thick skin similar to that of dolphins that comes in a variety of colors. They grow hair on the tops of their heads, but nowhere else.

Fairy Dragon flight
Considering the way the wings are built, the FD fly almost hummingbird-like. Sunday would be slower than the others because of the size of her wings. She'd be able to glide for longer, though.

More information on colors and gender characteristics can be found in the second post of the Fairy Dragon HQ.

POINTS TO REMEMBER WHILE RPING
Pulled together by shim

- Fairy dragons are omnivirous, which means they eat both meat and vegetables! They hunt for food and for pelts to keep them warm in the winter. They also fish and forage, and dabble in alchemy and tailoring. Some dragons can read (Pepper, for example) and have scribe-like duties, while others are completely illiterate (Reet is a classic case).

- Fairy dragons have a weak incest taboo. They will not mate with their parents, children, siblings, grandparents or grandchildren. Cousins are probably fair game, though, because we don't bother to keep track that much. xp

- Some dragons mate for life, and some don't. It's a personal preference, just like in some areas of the real world. However, a higher percentage of dragons have turned away from lifemating, perhaps because of their primitive society without religion.

- There is a technology limit for formal RP. Your dragon does NOT have all the same knowledge you have. In informal RP your dragon can talk about how you are watching TV, but in the formal RP it should have no clue what a TV is.

Did I need to come in here and endorse this? It's just fine, from what I can see. Thank you for putting this up. If I think of something to add I'll run it through you. ^^
