I like jazz, I was in a jazz band for 3 years. But I like old jazz: Glenn Miller (my peronal fav, I play trombone), Charlie Bird Parker, Louis Armstrong, and relatively new: Wynton Marsalis.

Charlie's my all-time favorite! what instrument did you play in the jazz band you were in? biggrin

Maybe you guys can help me out.

I remember a song from last year, but I don't know the name of the song or artist.

"Part of the song was "It's a new dawn, It's a new day, It's a new life for me"

It could be either Michael Buble or the band Muse (both songs are called 'Feeling Good'). My friend loves Michael Buble, so I can ask her next week if she is familiar w/ the song.

two jazz greats just died yesterday: Michael Brecker and Alice Coltrane. Brecker was one of my favorite saxophonists ever, and a real inspiration to my playing jazz and funk. two nights ago, our jazz band had a big concert, which i was playing in the whole time, and we played one of the Brecker Brothers' hit songs: Some Skunk Funk. we also played Randy Brecker's Tujica. then i find out the next day that Michael died, and it really shocked me.
as for Alice Coltrane, she was a great pianist, vocalist, and wife of one of my all-time favorites, John Coltrane. she was 69 when she died of breathing problems. may both of these jazz greats rest in peace.

I'm sorry that two of your fav musicians died the other day...neither of which am I overly familiar with... I wish I could still perform with a jazz band, but our jazz program got cut this time last year... My director is trying to find jazz arrangements for the entire band to be able to play though.

oh, no! your program was cut?! that's awful! surprised if you tell me how advanced your band is, i might be able to suggest a few arrangements. look at anything arranged by Mark Taylor or Sammy Nestico.

yeah, our band pretty much sucks. the director is forcing everyone, on every instrument to play and there are only a handful of us that actually even care... But if you've got suggestions, I'd gladly suggest them to Burns (my idiot director)
