Hi People!
Does anyone here do any tabletop roleplaying...like Dungeons and Dragons and so forth? A group of friends and I get together and roleplay using a lot of info from the Palladium Books as our campaign setting. Anyway, after my wife and got them into FMP, I decided I would try and create a tabletop game based on Full Metal Panic! Luckily, Palladium Books did the RP adaptation for Robotech a while back, so I even have plenty of info to draw on for mecha.
Granted, we're all probably far away from each other in real life, but do any of the other guild members have any ideas as to how to make a tabletop FMP game a little better?

OK, tabletop roleplay...
...basically you start with a character profile. Age, name, species, special talents, skills, background, and so forth. Essentially, you have everything you need to know about your character down on paper for reference. You also have a Game Master who provides the story and the various challenges you have to deal with...sort of the narrator for your story.
You also have dice to see how well you do certain things. Take Kurz for example...he's a sniper, right? Let's say he has a skill for Sniper on his character sheet, and he rates 90% at it. If he wants to shoot somebody, he rolls his dice. If he rolls at or below 90 he'll make the shot, but if he goes over 90, he misses. Basically, the dice help you make sure the character doesn't do anything beyond his or her own abilities.
That's how tabletop roleplaying works in a nutshell. There are a lot of different book series that give you places to set your games. There are things like Dungeons and Dragons or Forgotten Realms that are in a Lord of the Rings type world. My friends and I use books from a company called Palladium. They've made settings for Robotech, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and a lot of other things like superheroes and secret spy companies.
It's a lot less complicated than I make it sound. Feel free to ask questions, I'll probably be more helpul that way. smile

Yeah, it can really be a lot of fun. I've got most of the research for my FMP game finished...I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out.
