Isn't song 3 just called Dig? It's my favourite. Well, that, and Anna Molly.

Clearchannel? My archnemesis! No.

Anyway, I think the album is totally amazing. My initial reaction was that it was more cohesive as an album than Morning View, better instrumentally than Crow, and at times more spastic than SCIENCE, although in a controlled and more mature way. The lyrics weren't so hot at first, but they've really grown on me, and the vocals are amazing as usual. Right now it's my favorite so far, but I'm not sure if it's just because it is new or not. The highlights for me are Kiss To Send Us Off, Dig, Anna Molly, Paper Shoes, and Pendulous Threads, but I likes them all, and probably my least favorite part is Earth To Bella, just becuase it lacks the usual degree of complexity, but not that that part is bad at all. Yeah, Incubus.

Oh, and thanks, I fixed the Dig issue. Don't know why I added an "it".

It's absolutly amazing, beautiful and intense. Its overwhelming. It lives up to everything theyve ever done (though Make Yourself will always place 1st in my heart). Truely it is most similar to science but there are some amazing new aspects. It wins.

Yeah, it definately had some of the SCIENCE vibe going a little bit, minus the drugs of course. It might seem mainstream, but only becuase it's so mature, in the same way that the Chilipeppers are concidered mainstream, but their music is not so pedestrian as mainstream bands. It's accessable without being cheap or poppy, and yet not too accessible so it retains its flavor of mystery and exoticism. It hooks you, but you don't necissarily know where it is going to take you.

The science is mostly on Pendulous Threads. I dont think mature really means mainstream in the case of L.G. but I see your point when it comes to the Peppers. Their music is so out there and funkadelic and ABOVE, but last time I saw them it was in a stadium.

Ive been an Incubus fan for 5 years (not that long I suppose). After all these years I can't tell at all what the concept is for Light Grenades- I understand there's barely a concept but what is it?

After reading the whole lyrics book in one sitting, it seems to me that the album as a whole is about a couple who are making a descion to move to the next step and have a serious relationship, or give up and move on, see new people, etc. Quicksand sort of gives us the low down with the "some people fall in love and touch the sky ... some find quicksand" saying that it's risky being seriously in love, but it can be worth it. Then the songs reflect the guy leaving in A Kiss To Send Us Off, reflecting on the positive parts of the relationship (Dig) how much he misses her and possibly that this is the first time he's ever felt this way about someone (Anna Molly) and that, well, Love Hurts. Then Earth To Bella is sort of an interlude to be like, "Hey, girl, you've got to be ready to give it everything, you've got to be ready to forget your preconcieved notions and give us a shot". Then there is stuff like Paper Shoes, Pendulous Thread, and Oil and Water that show his doubts, but also how he is willing to give it a shot, reinforced by the stuff in Diamonds and Coal about how it looks rough but it will get better hopefully. And then in the last Earth To Bella they decide to go throught with it and "take the plunge." And I can only assume that Rouges and Light Grenades allude to the idea that these concepts have a more universal application than just personal relationships, like our relationship with humanity, society, and nature... The fact the the album is called Light Grenades leads me to believe that the "two lovers" in the story are more of allagorical figures, making the album very deep indeed.

Either way, this is my way over analized interpretation. This is the only time I've ever really examined an album this closely and I could take it a lot further if I wanted, mostly because I wanted to take my listening experiance further, plus I had a really good AP English teacher who has taught me to analyse stuff for internal meaning pretty well. And I'm a genious. But not when it comes to spelling. This is my take, and to me, it makes the album absolutely adorable, especailly in the context of it being Incubus, and hey, I'll ask 'em about it when I MEET THEM... Hopefully. So any thoughts?

Diomedes, your signature is hot...

hmmm I like your perception of the album. Personally I dont see as much as a story. To me the album is simply about love. Its more than the love of an intimate couple, its the love of friends and family (and lovers of course). Its a reflection of all Brandons ideals (probably stemming from his 4 years of being single) and his ideas of what a relationship even is. "our relationship with humanity, society, and nature" I love that idea Greer!
Love is the theme of light grenades. Politics was ACLOM. Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness was make yourself. Drugs was science ect ect...

Im really trying not to analyze this too much-I think I need to take it at face value(which is hard for me)

YES! The sig is basically the hottest thing since silced bread <3333

Well, the thing is that I'm working on writing a concept album myself, so that's probably part of why I precieved it as such. And honestly, I mean, there were songs on Crow that were political, but as a whole, I didn't see much of an overall theme on it. It was more about how they felt about various things, and it just so happened that Megalomaniacs was there. And I guess Made For TV Movies and Talk Show On Mute were to a degree, but I thought they were more about how society is blind, that sort of thing. For the most part, their other albums didn't have much of an overall theme, then a musical theme of conected feelings expressed instrumentally. This one seemed a lot more connected, so that's why I see a story to it.

And I'm Alex, pleasure to meet you.

Your working on a concept album? Do you have a band or is this solo? Whats the concept?

Once we have all been to this round of concerts we'll have to write up some reports. At the moment Ill working on some art involving eastern theology and the concept of an "incubus" I hope it turns out OK.

Nice to meet you Alex

The album art could definately be seen as "emo" but I don't think so personally. That is what my friend said, and it bares a vague resemblence to Kurt Halsey I must admit, but it is kinda cool too.

I "have" a band, but we have yet to have a true practice, and only truely offically "started" last Saturday (although we first decided to get together probably a couple months ago)... Long boring story. Anyway, the album is sort of a solo project, but I'm going to use this band for it possibly, as well as get together with some other local talents whever I get it off the ground, which probably won't be any time soon.

I'm tentatively calling it "Darksiders" as a sort of amalgamation between The Dark Side Of The Moon and DJ Shadow's "The Outsider" even though that title is super cliche... It is a good working title. It focus on the themes of disillusionment with the comercialization of everything beautiful (specifially music) as the part inspired by Pink Floyd and will be a mixture of generas and collaberations like DJ Shadow's album. The "story" if you will follows a band that starts out just having fun and expression themselves but get's big and successful to the point that not only do they lose their creative freedom but their connection with what they are doing, their audience and eachother, and in the end they realise that they had everything they ever needed in the begining and didn't need all of the fame, and frills and all that. That's the focus, on the fact that society makes us believe we are incomplete, but in fact, we are, and we don't need all this extra garbage and how these theme applies to everything and how all that matters is what we do with ourselves and what we've experienced, not neccissarily that our experiance themselves make us special or unique... it's what's inside that counts... It doesn't sound as bad as all that in my head though, trust me... The only problem is that I'm limited by a lack of musical knowledge... But my ultimate goal is to make it multimedia, with like visual arts and maybe a film of some kind... It's fun atleast trying to do it, and that's all that really matters.
