The upperclass were so, well, borring. The women clung to Rufus like flys to honey and the men always tried to buy his favor. If it wasnt for the fact that he'd been asked so nicely, with a large donation, to come he wouldnt have bothered.
At the moment the host's wife was hanging off his arm complementing him on something completely irrelevant. The Turks were around the room keeping an eye on things and their boss. He knew Tseng was no more than a few feet from him and Reno was off with a glass of something illegal talking to some pretty face. Rude was by the door and where Kaleb had gotten himself lost too was up in the air.

Although he had been trying to go unnoticed, somehow Kaleb had caught the attention of a curious woman who seemed to want to know why he had accompanied Rufus to the event. She was very vocal in her belief that such a small and polite young man couldn't possibly be any kind of bodyguard. It wasn't long before he had to extricate himself from the cluster of women who were drawn in by the animated chatter of the first, and happily added their opinions and speculations to the pile.
His absence seemed to go unnoticed, and he took that opportunity to look for any familiar face.

He chatted with those who crowded around him. He hated the small talk and would much rather be at home working rather than here but Tseng had been adament that he'd agreed to come. Sighing inwardly he excused himself and headed for the small bar they'd set up. He wanted a drink, a strong one

Kaleb saw Rufus in his white suit through the crowd, noting Tseng right behind him. Figuring that was the best place to start, he slipped past the men in their fancy suits and women in their fancy dresses, until he stood next to Tseng.

One of the women chatting up Rufus when he was going to settle himself down and get married. The blond smiled sweetly at her and managed to field the question carefully. Business was busy and all.
Tseng managed to cover a laugh behind one hand as Kaleb moved over to where he was. "Crowd getting to you?"

Kaleb blushed a bit, hoping that was just Tseng being observant rather than himself being too easy to read. "A-a little." He replied quietly, peering back through the crowd to where the gaggle of women hadn't yet noticed his disappearance.

"They feast on pretty blue eyed blonds." He grinned as he looked down at Kaleb. "It's not just Rufus' talents that get him noticed after all."

Kaleb frowned a bit. "So they won't leave me alone, even though I'm not important?" That was a scary thought, he would have rather heard Tseng say they would leave him alone after awhile.

"Considering you are their type and you work for Rufus? Not likly." He eyed one woman as she turned her head to look at him, obvisouly making a comment to someone about his connection with Rufus.

The healer's expression didn't change, he really wasn't fond of the idea of being a target. "If I stay near you and Rufus, perhaps they will decide to talk with Rufus instead?" Kaleb asked quietly. Perhaps his employer would be able to act as a social lightning-rod, not only was he also blonde and blue eyed, but he was more important, and stood out more in the white suit.

"That would probably be the case." He nodded. An older man came over and spoke to Tseng for a few minuets about some stock thing before shuffling of.

Kaleb was awfully relieved, and also determined not to wander too far from Rufus and Tseng before the end of the event. He caught a glimpse of Reno through a break in the crowd, and envied the redhead's ability to make the best of such an event. "Are there parties like this often?" Kaleb asked.

"There are generally a few each season. Rufus avoids most of them but the man running this one made a rather large donation to ShinRa corp and it is best to keep up appearences"

Kaleb nodded, easily understanding why it was appropriate to attend the event, but there were still some gaps in his knowledge. "But what's the point of the event?"

"I believe it is to celebrate the man's company going up to something in the stock exchange. Nothing really important but the rich like to throw parties for no reason"
