Yeah it's definitely a topic we need. Because doom has a wide spread of Sub-Genres it's good to know what everyone prefers.
I personally enjoy Traditional Doom the most. I just find the heaviness, emotion and general all round metalness of Traditional Doom to be great. I can't get enough of it. I also find it's hard to find bad or even mediocre trad. doom bands.
I love all forms of Doom though.

I enjoy Death Doom foremost with Funeral in second. The others I haven't really bothered to explore.

Most of all I enjoy traditional doom. There is hardly any traditional doom band I don't like.
I also like the more traditional and non post-rock influenced bands of stoner and sludge (eg Orange Goblin and newer Trouble for stoner, Tungsten and Down for sludge).
Some death/doom I enjoy (Runemagick, Winter, My Dying Bride), but I can't stand the more gothicy bands of that genre with alternating male grunts and female operatic vocals.
Recently I began to get into funeral doom, with Wraith Of The Ropes and Ahab being my favourites so far. But there is much more still to explore for me.
Drone is the only genre of doom that doesn't hold any appeal to me at all, at least from what I heard so far.
Not a proper genre of doom yet, but very interesting is the combination of doom and black metal, like for example by bands like Beatrik, Darkflight, Xasthur etc..

Sludge. And stoner. About equally. Because. I don't feel like explaining right now.

Death/Doom for I feel it is the most varied style of doom, I mean you don't get much more different than heavy crushing riffs of Thorr's Hammer compared to Saturnus's sombre Gothic romances.
Wether it is classics like Anathema and My Dying Bride or personal favorites like Evoken and Saturnus the style is vast, quality filled, and dark in a romantic melancholy way instead of oppressive way that funeral doom is.

Most favorite subgenre would have to be trad. doom. The emotion behind the vocalist's voice and the guitarwork just hits the spot every time.
Following close to trad. doom is funeral doom, which is at its best when the bands take the concept of despair and just magnifies and turns it into a beautiful creature.

I voted for Drone because there is just something about it that appeals to my senses, i can just sit back and relax. To me it takes a special kind of musician to sit down and come up with a song like that that wont get boring or monotonous (i know some of you beg to differ, but this is my opinon).
But I like Funeral doom alot too because Ahab is my favorite band, when i listen to them the music just melts into watery colors. Its nice and slow but heavy (duh its doom). I don't know exactly how to describe it. Maybe you understand how i feel.

It's a hard decision to make. Must I just pick one? crying I'm particularly fond of trad, sludge and stoner. 3nodding One of the first "real" doom bands I ever listened to was Saint Vitus. When I started getting more into doom I used Vitus as a reference point for the sound that I like, so I suppose trad doom takes the cake for me.

The Melancholy Spirit Wether it is classics like Anathema and My Dying Bride or personal favorites like Evoken and Saturnus the style is vast, quality filled, and dark in a romantic melancholy way instead of oppressive way that funeral doom is. I like that description of the distinction between funeral and death/doom (Does anyone else dislike that name? Having to type the slash annoys me crying ). But I find Evoken are a band that almost transcends the genre as they can oppress like a funeral doom band at times.

Yeah, Evoken is really ******** oppressive, I feel so trapped when listening to them. Amazing band. However, on the whole that description tends to hold true.

I'm starting to like sludge more. Rediscovered my Eyehategod and Grief albums, now I can't stop listening to it.

Gotta say Traditional and Stoner Doom are becoming my favorites. I absolutely love the works of Solitude Aeternus, Sleep, and Reverend Bizarre, and will most likely love Bongzilla when I hear that heart
