I have realized that many people call Hiei, "Hiei Jaganshi" though it is clear in the anime/manga that he has no last name. I was wondering if it annoys people? In my opinion, I just hate it when the person claims to know just about everything about Hiei, yet, they don't realize that Yoshihiro Togashi (the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho, for those of you who didn't know) never actually gave him a last name.

I think people started calling him this out of some random need for him to have a 'full name' you know? Doesn't Jaganshi mean 'Jagan Master' or something along those lines? I guess if that's so, calling him that is technically correct as a title, but not really a name. It doesn't bother me though, i actually used that last name for him in a A/U fanfic, since I knew he didn't have an actual one.

Either way it goes, I still kind of dislike it. I understand the want for a last name, yet for some reason it is just one of those things that annoys me like crazy. I dunno why; it doesn't even really make any sense.

Lol, I wouldn't let it bother you too much because people are probably going to keep doing it no matter what sweatdrop

Yeah, I know. I just figured I'd try to get other peoples ideas about it, since it annoys me. I guess I only got one persons opinion. Jeez... we need more people.

Actually, his name is "Jaganshi Hiei" yes I know they use it backwards in the Japanese. It's not that they're using it as a "last name" some ARE. However, it is mostly used as a class, just like "Youko Kurama" Youko is a class, or race/species, just like Jaganshi.
I think people that use it like that, because they have no clue what they're talking about. Though it does make for a last name, I think it fits him. He DOES in fact need a last name. So I think people just made the connection. ^_^ It annoys some people, it works for some people, either way. I don't care. It's just like "Youko Kurama" to me.

I think most people use it as a last name because in most stories or fanfics, Hiei gets married. And the last name of the husband is usually required. Sure if the mom wanted to keep her maiden name that's fine however the kids need their father's last name. So perhaps that's where it's coming from.
I personally don't mind it. In fact I've done it myself once however I didn't realize it wasn't an actual last until awhile after I made my story. [Which I didn't even finish. sweatdrop ]
