Ah! Good question. A lot of fanficers and shipers assume everyone knows this word but the fact is if your new to the shipping world how would you know.
Cannon: Cannon means that it is true in the original story. Really it means that a pairing is "cannon" only if the original story has that romance in it clearly and manifestly i.e.: it doesn't just hint at it.
However some people will stretch this definition to cover pairings that are HEAVILY hinted at. For example ShikaTem (Shikamaru and Temari). That pairing most people will agree is cannon even though they are not “dating” in the manga/anime it is pretty obvious that they both are at least crushing on each other.
Still others will say that a pairing is cannon because the artist seems to like the pairing. For example SasuNaru/NaruSasu some people will say this is cannon because Kishimoto seems to like the pairing himself. Evidence is seen in the Naruto Data book and interviews.
Lastly there are a sad bunch who will tell you that a pairing is cannon just because they like it and think it would work well.
This being said any pairing that does not fall under the first category is debatable and people claiming other pairings to be cannon “Be Ware of Flamers.” You will without a doubt make some one mad. Remember the further you go down the list the more flamers you will get. If it’s not the first or second you better have a good argument or just don’t bother saying its cannon.
Cannon does not always have to refer to pairings though it often does. Like I said before “Cannon means that it is true in the original story.” This means you could say “Hinata’s love for Naruto is cannon.” Some people might say “No it’s not love its worship.” (that’s a common line about Hinata) They won’t deny, however that there is something Hinata feels for Naruto.
Naruto Cannon This is a tricky because NO ONE in Naruto is blatantly together so much as to qualify for the first condition. There are two, however that I can think of that are pretty close.
Asuma/Kurenai = its really impossible to argue that this is not cannon but try if you must. Shikamaru/Temari = you could argue this but it would be hard.

Could you possibly explain other terms too, such as uke and semi? I see it everywhere on this guild and all it does is confuse me... sweatdrop I already know terms like yaoi and yuri but please explain it in better detail if you could. Thank you. smile

seme is the over-powering male which means he's the one on top. uke is the one on bottom and is sometimes the smaller one and has a girlish behavior. seme is powerful and protective of the little uke~ whee
