This thread is for RP occuring in the West Woods. This large forest contains the East Lakes (which has its own RP thread), and the Orchestra River. The West Woods are an excellent place to hunt and forage.
The woods are peaceful and green. Moss and leaf litter soften the forest floor, and towering hardwoods spread their leaves over the ceiling. Many creatures make this area their home.
Have fun!

A throat was cleared loudly and a deceptively delicate-looking dragon stepped forward. "May I have your attention please?" The assembled, a rabbit and a squirrel, continued to ignore her. Roan tried once more, only to receive lackluster results. Irritated, she stomped her foot and both audience members finally turned, giving her what could almost be described as patronizing looks.
"Thank you. Now, let's begin," she said as she opened a small pouch, emptying the contents on the ground. Multi-coloured shells of different sizes scattered before her and she took a moment to arrange them in a fashion that suited her. "Rabbit. Pick a shell."
Of course, the rabbit did nothing of the sort and began giving itself a bath.
No problem, it had clearly wiggled its nose at a spiky pink shell near its paw. She picked the shell up, turning it with her claws, examining it intensely. At length, she gave a rather dramatic sigh, "Terrible news, Rabbit. Your lifeline," she tapped the spot with her claw, giving the rabbit a sympathetic look, "is tragically short. In fact, I doubt you'll live past today."
Still unimpressed, the rabbit turned and hopped off, followed closely after by the squirrel.
Roan watched the two small animals depart and without a second thought, fell to the ground, and began stalking her prey. "Nothing wrong with helping fate along."
((Reposting Roan's introduction somewhere location appropriate. Also in case it was missed in the raffle thread. whee ))

*Not too far away, there was the sound of snuffling and scraping at the base of several tree trunks. Flame lifted his head, dirt crumbling from his snout and sneezed rather loudly. Yet again he had failed to find a root matching the one Kismet had let him borrow and he was getting quite frustrated with the whole thing.
The root in question was still curled safely in his tail so he would have his hands and mouth free to dig and sniff. The young red sighed, giving up for now in favor of catching himself some lunch. Webbed ears perked as the tell-tale rustle of leaves signified on-coming prey.*

Still unaware that it was being stalked, the rabbit carelessly hopped out of the bushes and came to a stop just short of Flame. Just great. Another one of these big red creatures. Rather than being alarmed, the rabbit looked up at Flame with an almost annoyed expression.
Roan had been following shortly behind the rabbit when she picked up a scent that was unexpected, but not entirely strange to her. She crept slowly towards the source, noting that fate clearly had intended her to feast well tonight by having the rabbit lead her to more prey. She stopped on the far side of the bush, pressing low to the ground and within a moment had lept through it, finally about to make her kill for dinner.
Whatever she had been expecting to find, it certainly wasn't a male red dragon. Roan let out a soft shocked sound and only barely managed to stop herself from impacting with Flame.

High up in the treetops, Kismet had been been taking a nap, when he heard the noise below. He stirred, noticing that he had napped a little too long, as it was darker than when he had fallen asleep. His tail whipped in irritation with himself, but then he heard the noises again.
Curiously, he crept quietly through the branches, his nose sniffing. He recognized Flame's scent, but there was another he wasn't familiar with. A female. Being his stealthiest, he peered down at them through the leaves. Don't twitch, he thought to his tail.

*Flame had just crouched down, getting ready to pounce upon the rabbit when a large dark red blur whirled in front of him. He fell backwards with a yelp, eyes squeezing shut in anticipation of the collision. When none came he cracked one eye-lid open carefully....
Another red dragon. Correction- A red female dragon.
Uncurling from the crash position, Flame opened his mouth before he could think of anything to say... Severel seconds went by...*
What are you doing here?
*It was the first thing that came to his mind.*

Roan recovered from the near miss, dusting herself off and trying to appear as if it had always been her intention to just come short of colliding with Flame. Once satisfied that she didn't look nearly as silly as the dragon on the ground, she turned her focus to him, looking at him expectantly when he opened his mouth. When he finally did speak, she didn't find herself particularly impressed.
"Acting as an agent of fate and collecting my dinner. Or at least that was the plan." By this point the rabbit had decided it wanted nothing to do with either red creature and bolted off through the underbrush. "What are you doing here?"

Acting as a wha...?
*Flame stared up at her- which wasn't a short trip- and tried to appear anything but how he felt- which was stupid. He got to his feet abruptly and assumed a casual stance, flicking his tail at her in a non-chalant fashion.*
I'm here on an important quest!
*He informed her, examining his claws as if explaining this was such a burden.*

"An agent of fate."
She folded her arms across her chest and didn't bother hiding the hint of annoyance in her voice, "Your important quest is to scare off my dinner?" Her tail twitched and she gave Flame an appraising look.
No, despite the fact he probably deserved it, he didn't look like he'd make a good dinner.
She muttered under her breath, "Rabbit, 1. Fate, 0."

You wish. I'm here to make sure nobody gets sick this winter.
*He boasted, holding the root aloft so that she could see it.*
This is a very important ingredient in a tonic that Ki-...I mean- that I'm making.
*It sounded a whole lot more important if he pretended he was the one who was going to brew the tonics for everyone... Kismet would never know- no harm done. He tossed his head arrogantly, flipping a few strands of hair out of his eyes.*

Watching from his perch, Kismet whipped his tail despite himself. A pretty, red female. Then he quickly caught himself, and stilled his tail again. Leaves fell into his hair as he remained hunkered down on the branch.

"Why would I wish you would--" The pitch of her voice raised in irritation, but she cut herself short. Instead she let out an exasperated sigh, "Nevermind."
She took a step forward to get a better look at the root Flame held. Sniffing it, she made a face and backpeddled slightly. "Have fun playing in the dirt. It'll be dark soon and I have no intentions of going hungry tonight."
With that she took a step past him and was about to leave him behind when she recalled something he had said. "Wait. Nobody? You're from a group?"

*The hair on the back of Flame's neck started to rise, his lip curling upwards a little. How dare she be so rude to him when he'd just proclaimed that he was doing a great deed? The nerve...
A little growl was bubbling in his throat and he was just about to make some lame come-back like 'come over here and say that to my face!' when she suddenly spoke again. Flame looked confused for a moment, raising one eye-brow at the red female.*
Of course I am. Who would want to live alone?
*He snorted, crossing his arms.*

"Sometimes the company can be overwhelming." She said flatly and then added in a slightly softer tone, "And sometimes there isn't a choice."
Roan wasn't quite sure why she admitting this to him. When she'd originally seen him, she'd assumed he was living alone in the wild, same as she was. Now presented with the idea that she wasn't the only Fairy Dragon on the island, but that there was possibly several more, she didn't know what to think. Hadn't she been perfectly capable of surviving on her own thus far? He probably thought she was weak and had barely been able to get by. She certainly didn't want to stroke his ego further, having him think he'd saved some damsel-in-distress.
But he had made one very good point. Winter was approaching and with it came an increased possibility of getting sick. Roan was fine when survival just meant catching food and tending to minor scrapes, but what if she contracted an illness or got a bad infection? She'd be a goner.
"You know how to make tonics to balance the winter humors?"

*She lost him right on the first sentence, which was a total flip-flop of his personal social views. Flame felt at his best when around others and prided himself on his ability to impress and entertain his company. When he was alone he felt disconnected and useless. The young red often placed his self-worth in the hands of others, depending on their reactions to define how he felt about himself. Being alone was not a choice.
Flame faltered slightly at her question, wondering if he'd be in big trouble later for lying... But she seemed so interested... He couldn't say he didn't do anything much really- then she'd have no reason to stay around...*
Yeah... Sure can...
*He answered, deciding to just roll with it. No harm done, right?*
Everyone depends on me to make sure we all get through the winter.
*The red male declared, standing taller and trying to appear more strong and leader-like.*
