Although Aang is quite like an Amish (actually, all of them are), Aang is too childish to be a good Avatar. He has to expand his limits, stop playing all the time and face the truth: He really needs to hurry up with his training and stop wandering!
If I were to be his teacher, I would always mentally challenge his head - including yelling at him!

Aang thinks in a different way than everybody else. The people are not used to him because the whole air society was lost. When they saw Aang and how he acts. He wants to learn in a different style of lessons.
That's why they were going to send Aang to the eastern air temple. Because Monk Giatso (SP?) taught in a different style than everybody else.

True, very true. I think Aang is SO COOL! His powers are awesome. But you're right, he needs to be a bit more focused and mature.
I think that Aang, having a different style of martial arts from everyone else, should educate people in his style (I mean the Ba Gua style, not the actual Airbending.) Like Katara, or other Waterbenders and Firebenders (it would never work with Earthbenders, they're opposites). That'd be cool. mrgreen

Aang is one of my favorite characters. Probably because he's such a sweet kid, and he's into having fun and tries to be positive. But he has a lot of depth about him: his struggle with being the Avatar, the responsibility (which he really isn't ready for, but has no choice), and his crush on Katara (which is cute beyond compare ^^). People say that Zuko's super interesting, which he is IMO, but if you stop and think about what Aang went through and what he's going through now, he becomes extremely interesting as well.
I'd also be, like, his number one fangirl if he was older >.>;

Aang is still 12, possibly 13..
I think he is still 12, There will most likely be an episode where he celebrates his birthday.

that's what i thought, but in lake laogai, on the t.v. guide thingy, it said something like the teen leads a group under a lake into the heart of the dai li. i mean, i guess 12 could be considered kind of a teen... or something along those lines...

Aang is such a sweet kid. A little hyper sometimes maybe (especially if you give him chi-enhancing tea whee ) , but still a sweet kid. I can see why some people think he needs to be more focused, but to me he seems to be learning more and more about responsibility and accomplishing quite a bit in a short amount of time. Besides, who doesn't need fun in their lives every now and then? He needs some stress relief.
