Hail to all new members. I hope you enjoy yourself here. This forum can be for serious subjects or just to goof around. I encourage debates and the sharing of new ideas but Im also a fan of jokes. Also wish you kinsmen a happy holiday for the current heathen holiday. I, myself, will be updating when the holidays arrive. Just follow the rules for this guild and you'll be fine. Theyre easy rules to follow, just be nice.

Hello Lucian.
I had intended to apply for membership in this guild but I found that that function was disabled. So I'm taking it this way.
I'm an icelander who's spent a considderable amounth of time researching and learning even before choosing this path. I read old norse and so I take my information from the oldest available sources for the most part.
I am a generally nice and agreeable person, even if quite clearly nuts, but I also happen to occationally show a little brutal honesty.

Hope I get to stick around and maybe see the guild grow.

Iceland's nice, a little odd. I currently live in Sweden while I educate myself. it's easyer that way, financhially. I didn't move there for that reason which is why sweden is currently paying me for going to school.
I'm home for the holidays.... watching the effects of global warming...
I didn't know I'd be here until late or I would have gone to the big midwinter blót in Reykjavík,.. instead of having a little one of my own wink

There is a problem in what people are taught about the blót these days. Especially the history bit.
Biased people wrote that the heithen norse would sacrifice animals and even men to the gods.
The truth is that they offered the dinner's spirit to the gods and then later used about half a cup of blood, and no more, to bless those there and the house and then left the blood on the altar. The people really knew how to manage resources and to think they sacrificed more would be rediculous.

Now Ive heard oppisite. Ive read where Tacitus has said in his accounts of the norse that he whitnessed the human sacrifices to their gods. But what you say makes alot of sense seeing that Tacitus was a christian and [I think?] a roman. He was probably paid off by the catholic church to make horrindus accusations.

Could you post like an article or something for me to read more, please?

Hey, hey. How is everyone? I'm Eric (short for Eirikir) and I'm a longtime heathen, currently a lone practitioner along with my wife.

Hi! I'm new to Gaia and found am so glad that there are other Heathens/Asatruar here!! I live in the Southeast and am an Odinist (Odinic Rite). Frequently find it difficult to find like-minded people where I live. My beliefs are more spiritual than religious (ritual practice) at this point due to school and family, but this will shift once I graduate in December. For the past year, I've been meeting up with people in the state I live in, networking with them in order to broaden my own beliefs as well as comradarie. I'd like to thank those of you for posting such great material on here and look forward to getting to know ya!

Hailsa Everyone biggrin
Nice to find an Asatru Guild on Gaia... Talk about a Surprise!!
I currently live in Germany, have spent a bit of time in Norway this past summer & Spring, and just attended the Summer Games & Viking Market in Gudvangen, Norway... what a Blast, and an Amazing experience for me!

I have been a solitary practicing Heathen for about 9 years... but have studied Runes & Northern Magick & Mythology for over 17 years.

I look forward to getting to know more of you better, reading the forums & future discussions.

Hailsa Everyone! I am new to this guild and I am so happy to see other Asatrus like me have a place to hang and talk about the Gods.
"Hidden Runes shalt thou seek and interpreted signs,
many symbols of might and power,
by the great Singer painted, by the high Powers fashioned,
graved by the Utterer of gods." The Havamàl
