Meditation/Visualization: Tips?

Yeah, since I effectively suck at them, I'd like to learn how to improve my abilities in either or both. Any help at all will be appreciated. My main problems:
Meditation: I can't keep concentration very well, and I'm not sure exactly what to expect. How do I know when I'm doing it right?
Visualization: I can get an image in my head fairly well, the problem is keeping it there. Also, same problem as meditation, I'm not entirely sure where the balance is between imagining something there and actually seeing it (which I've never been able to do).

Happened to me to man I had sooooooo much trouble with both ok heres how I improved Meditation- GO to a nice quiet room no music and an incent called black opium may help it helps you calm down and such well close your eyes or keep them open I keep myn open. now with them open stare a somthing anything in front of you and keep yer eyes there and eventually you will begin to trance out it may help may not now visualization- it depends on what yer talkin about what are you visualizing tell me and I can help. xd

In regards to visualization, try studying an object for a long time, memorize every line, every tone of color, every bit of the object. Then, after you know it well, close your eyes and remember every little part. Try to hold the object in your mind for as long as you can. Do this often, and try with different objects. Eventuley you will trane your mind to do this effortlesly and will be able to 'create' objects in your mind. With visualization, the more you practice the better you get, and it dosen't have to take long, just a few minutes every night before bed would do it.

Here's a couple of tricks I used when first learning to meditate:
Go in a quiet room, close your eyes and make sure your sitting comfortably.
Breathe really deep, counting to ten inhale, count to five holding it, then count to ten exhale.
Focus solely on your counting and breathing.
once you have gotten past this stage you can try "focus meditating"
where you sit comfortably, and focus on one object in front of you.
Try and think of nothing, just breathe and focus on the object.
I've found candles work quite well, they almost hypnotize me...
As for visualization, I can't really help - it comes naturally to me.
