This is an experimental RP to see if the type of RP I have in mind will work. If it seems to take off, it can them bloom out into a larger scale RP. Many of the systems are merely experimental and may be subject to alteration during gameplay. Any and all feedback is welcome (via PM or discussion thread, please) from player or non-player alike.

Title: The Ward

Setting: Modern day

Scenario: A small group of strangers awaken in an abandoned high-security asylum with no recollection as to how they arrived and nothing in their pockets. Strange, horrifying things begin to happen as they try and escape from the institution alive.

Mission: Escape the Asylum alive. Rewards will be determined after the mission is completed and will carry over into the continuing RP(assuming it is a success).

The Rules

(Subject to change)


1. The QM is the ultimate authority. What he(she) says is what happens. Your character may be killed. Please don't play if you can't deal with that.

2. Only those with accepted character applications may post in the thread. (see below)

3. No god-modding (unless you're the QM)

4. All posts should be written in character from that character's perspective.

5. Keep OOC posting to an absolute minimum. Please PM any questions suggestions to the QM... or post in a discussion forum.

6. Post asap. As soon as the QM posts, post your character's response. Any conflicting posts will be sorted out by the QM.

7. Post Regularly. The QM reserves the right to kill off any character that does not post for lengthy periods of time.

Weaknesses/Advantages


Weaknesses and Advantages are the elements that make your character stand out in the crowd. These are the things tat directly affect your character in the RP, be they physical(poor eyesight, overweight), mental(learning disability, intelligence), psychological, etc.

Feel free to come up with some combinations that seem to work well, as each weakness has to have an advantage to match, and visa-versa.

Example(s): George has a weakness of arachnaphobia, fear of spiders, but has the advantage of mechanical training. Sally has a weakness of small physical stature, but possesses the advantage of gymnastic training giving her high agility and flexibility. Randall is blind, but has other heightened senses.

Be creative as you want, but limit your weakness/advantages to two pair for now. You may be asked to alter or redefine your weakness/advantages before being approved for play.

Secrets


Secrets are those dirty little things from their pasts or about themselves that the characters would rather keep hidden. These things can be secret shames, guilts, hatreds, or simply events they've witnesed. Whatever secret you devise will have an impact upon this RP. Feel free to have fun with it.

These will be left out of the Character list in the thread, as they are secrets, but they should come into play somewhere in the rp.

Inventory System

(Highly Experimental: Subject to change)


The inventory system will work in conjunction with the character list on page 1 of the thread, and will only be accessible by the QM. Each character will only start with what the QM assigns them, but may find other items along the way.

The inventory list will be logic based, however, so there are no bottomless pockets. Items such as backpacks, duffel bags and briefcases can aid in the transport of numerous items, but limited only to the character's ability to carry. Judgement of this will be determined by the QM.

Character Name:Kyo

Character Description: Kyo is 24. He is a caucasian male who is 5ft 6. He has straight black hair that comes down just past his shoulders. It is parted down the middle. His weight is average.

Weaknesses: Not very atheletic,

Advantages: Is good at planning and devising things

Short Bio: Before Kyo arrived at the ward he was nothing more than your average citizen. He worked with a large building company as a designer. He had recently been promoted to be a member of the mangaging designers. Now he has arrived at this ward, unaware of how he got there...

Character Name: Ashley Rizo

Character Description: Ashley has sandy blond hair and freckles which she hates, a big nose and a heart-shaped face. She's short, but thick-muscled.

Weaknesses: Fears men, especially men in authority. She has learned to get along with them at work, but never really trusts them. Insomniac. An insensitive person socially. Not a very good planner.

Advantages: A third degree blackbelt, and not for nothing. Athletic, and physically tough. Coordinated.

Short Bio: Ashley is a competitor. She always had to be stronger, faster, better than the other girls in her school, and when they didn't give her much of a challenge, she challenged the boys, beating kids twice her age and size.
Today, she leads an athletics class and teaches in a struggling all-women's karate school. Her remaining students are very loyal, but most are scared away by her drill-sergeant like demeanor.

Clothing- laced running shoes, pair of white ankle socks, sports bra, cotton t-shirt, two-piece jogging suit

Kyo's eyes are open. He blinks once, twice and yet a third time, but nothing comes into focus.

Too dark.

He draws in deep and releases a shuddering sigh as he lays facedown on the strange, spongy floor. His fingers dig into the unfamiliar material, and retract ever so slightly as cool, fetid water fill the indentations. He can feel it all over him, wetting his hair, his skin and soaking through his clothing. It oozes all about him, covering him with that same stale funk that chills him to the very bone.

His eyes catch a faint square of light against a the wall directly before him and he picks himself up on his hands and knees. Blinking yet again at the pale, grey square of vinyl-covered wall, he shifts his legs beneath him and rests upon his knees, wet and now shivering against the invading cold. Though he can't see them, he can feel the walls on either side with a simple reach of his hand, and his breathing echoes intimately in his ears, betraying the close quarters of the room. There is a door behind him with a single, grime-smeared window. The source of the faint light.

What is he doing here? How did he get here? Where exactly is "here" anyway?

An intense fear begins to fill him, it is dark and he is beginning to feel claustrophobic. He faces the door. His eyes begin to adjust to the dim light and things within the room become slightly clearer. It is quite dirty and unpleasant, this atmosphere is assisted still by the grimy window on the door.

He shuffles forward and tries looking through the window. It is too dirty to get a clear focus for what lies on the other side. He can't see a person so decides it must be safe. Cautiously he tries the handle and hopes for the door to open. His heart pounds as he begins to move the handle.

The handle doesn't budge. It must be locked. Upon examination, Kyo can see a keyhole in the stem of the thing. As he inspects the lock, something catches his eye. In the corner to the right, just outside the light cast from outside: a slight glint of something small wedged into the corner of the padded walls and floor.

Sudden movement catches his attention and he looks up just in time to see a single shadow step away from the grime-covered window. The glass is too dirty to see any details outside, and the figure moves out of sight without a sound, dissapearing as suddenly as it had appeared.

Startled by the moving shadow he backs away from the door and falls back to the damp and cold feeling floor. He regains his balance and remembers the thing in the wall. He can't see what it is and so decides to examine it closer. Whatever it is it is too deep in the wall to examine apart from the slight glinting surface. He begins to wrok it out of the padded wall with success. It makes a slight clink as it hits the floor. He moves closer in the dim light to examine it.

The object is easily dislodged from the corner of the room, and upon inspection, Kyo can see that it is a key. The thing is worn and tarnished, and the number "23" is scrawled onto it on one side.

Perhaps this key that he held was the key that would open the door. How it ended up where it had he didn't like to think. He handled the key and fumbled it until it slid in to the keyhole. For a moment he held his breath and hoped as much as he could that this would free him. He made one fonal check by trying to peer through the dirty window, it seemed clear. He began to turn the key. His heart pounded as the key made the full turn. The door was unlocked. He tried the handle again and began to open the door.

The door opens with some resistance, creaking horribly as it does so, and then, just drops, digging itself into the floor and stopping fast.

Through the opening, Kyo can see into a dark hallway with the look of a subterranean complex of some sort. The once neatly installed tile flooring is now broken and cracked, but only where it is visible through the grunge caked on top of most of it's surface. The walls look as if they had been made of some plain institutional materials, with little decoration or personality, and now they practically oozed with filth. The ceiling, just as plain as the wall had been, now sags and drips in places, covered with the same funk as the rest of the hallway, and the mountings for the overhead flourescent lighting are mostly blackened and broken out. Apparently the cleaning crews haven't been keeping up as of late.

There's just enough room for Kyo to squeeze through and enter the hallway.

Once he does, he finds himself looking at a small stretch of dark hallway ending in a set of closed double doors at his left and the single flickering flourescent bulb casting some dingy light on a junction to the right. There is no sign of the figure from before.

He decideds he has 2 choices. Go towards the doors on his left of the corridor on his left.

He decides that the doors, if anything like his cell was, might make too much noise and draw attention to him. Carefully and silently he walks along the dank and rather foul smelling corridor to where the flickering light is. As he gets closer the increased light from the flourescent tube makes him squint slightly. This truly was an uninhabitable place for anyone with any sense.
